I love how Pete doesn’t try to sugar-coat his critiques. He’s not like “I love it sooo much and you do you but if I were you I would do this.” NO! This is about learning and getting better at pixart. Not getting congratulated on your work. I love it! Great work!

My biggest issue is that I can visualize what I want to draw, but I cannot actually draw it. I personally have dealt with a lot of insults disguised as critiques or have had too many people be outright mean to me for not doing things the way they would that I have a lot of trauma built up around people suggesting improvements. Thus I associate critiques or others suggesting improvements as a sign that I have done something abhorrent...which has made it even harder for me to get my art done. I am also incredibly sensitive to how the person uses their voice, and he really makes it clear that he is not doing this to be mean or selfish at all.

Good tips, Pete! Most of your vids focus on fantasy RPG stuff, which makes sense given your recent work on Dwerve, but I was wondering if you had any sci-fi type stuff planned for the future? Would be interesting to see a mech or spaceship in your style!

"Armor wouldn't really have abs" Bartolommeo Campi of Pesaro actually fashioned a suit of parade armour with abs for Emperor Charles V in the 16th century. According to Claude Blair (who included a picture of the piece in his book), this was made "...in imitation of Classical models..." (Blair, 117), which indicates that there may have been a precedent set in earlier times. However, there seems to be constant debate (surprise, surprise) with regard to the armour's effectiveness and popularity. Still, at the very least, we can prove to a reasonable degree the existence of at least one set with a nice set of abs. For what it's worth, (and in Pete's defense), in the same page, Blair says, "Splendid though this armour is, however, it is no more than a piece of fancy-dress", which doesn't exactly come across as entirely flattering.

Bro, how did you make the shadows of Dwerve? I knew that making a secondary sprit to do shadow costs a lot of performance... so you made the shadow directly in the sprit? For example, if you have a tree on a green grass, you do the sprit with the tree on top of the grass and already place the shade; and have to change the tree sprit for each soil of different color?

the shadows of non static things, like enemies, probably should be black/the color you use in your outline, because they will be on different floors( if you don't like how it looks you can make them semitransparent using your game engine.) in the other hand, static things, like trees, i can assume, they will be always placed in grass, so you can make the floor, including the shadows, in the same sprite.

I prefer a once a week pixel critique to be honest. Or heck maybe even draw something basic and have people finish it for you to see all the possible different styles and approaches.
