A trip to Petrified Forest National Park Arizona in the RV Camper Van. Lot of cool spot visited. Close up so you can really see what these amazing ancient petrified woods look like. Blue mesa, Rainbow forest, Crystal forest, Agate bridge and many others.

I need to look into this, wow. Clearly it was downed wood, some people or whatever cut a lot of it in pieces. What size humans could do that all those many years ago? How can wood turn to stone? Many questions I have and will be searching the web for days. Thanks for sharing and what a beautiful place along with very interesting.

I do know that they were not cut down. these were fallen trees and after millions of years going through the petrification process... after being turned to stone/minerals was when they cracked in half in many places making it appear as though they were cut.

At first I was like who knew Arizona had trees that size, much less a forest of them, and then who the hell cut them up into blocks? Then it hit me that at some point after they had turned to stone they cracked that way. Still it's strange how they broke up into blocks that look like they're for Paul Bunyan's wood stove.

did you ever find out what causes that would be petrified and how it happened I thought maybe being around and your mother picked up on that be curious to know Thanks

Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when plant material is buried by sediment and protected from decay by oxygen and organisms. Then, groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment replacing the original plant material with silica, calcite, pyrite or another inorganic material such as opal. It takes millions of years for this process....
