I was lucky enough to be driven round the Goodwood circuit, as a 10 year old in 1959, by Roy Salvadori. We did three laps - an out lap an 'on it' lap and an in lap (no real difference in speed as I remember!) drifting around every corner. Extraordinary and a never to be forgotten memory as I write this over 60 years later!

Fantastic! I was fortunate enough to just talk to him between his stints in a 24-hour race in 1985. He autographed that classic photo of him drifting an Aston Martin around a right hander in a magazine race report. When I presented it, he said, "That's a popular one!"

That was my favorite part too, seeing Carol Shelby. Just think, doctors told him in 1960 he'd be dead by 1962 and couldn't drive. Well he got a heart transplant and drove wickedly until the day he died, including doing over 200mph in a production GT500, just weeks before dying.To people my age, Carol Shelby wasn't just a hero and legend but a true ICON.
@mzondi19707 жыл бұрын
anybody that drove those cars back then had more balls then any of us combined, bias ply tires, mostly drum brakes, riding on gas tanks and they went like hell with very little safety gear
@MrRobster12347 жыл бұрын
Roy Salvadori was the principal driver in the '59 Le Mans race. Shelby always said "The year I won Le Mans" while Salvadori always said "The year Carrol Shelby and I won Le Mans". It says a lot about both men. They died within a few weeks of each other.

Thank you. Well done, as usual... beautiful car, beautiful presentation, beautiful setting, lovely use of period film footage with contemporary video. But the product leaves me a little emotionally flat... the narrator gives an excellent and energetic survey of Aston Martin racing history.. I'm glad the introduction comes right up front, Steve has great 'news reporter' delivery and personality - but I think I prefer your productions with the owner's personal touch, and a car like this might deserve to be filmed in its 'native' environment. I am nonetheless grateful for the work you share.. a brilliant car with in-depth background.

I'm glad I found this; actually, it somehow found me; but, anyways, I was watching some Ferrari answer to the GT-40. I can't wait to go through and learn what I can from all kinds of cars that were before my time, and that I haven't learned about. I mean I'm amazed at all the classic cars on the road my dad can tell you what it is. My dad's father raced this for the Southern California sports car series before it went bye bye. I think it was mostly a 1950s racing series. He also raced Lotus7's, and Ferrari TestaRosas.

@Skeeter667 жыл бұрын
Thanks
@Jabber-ig3iw7 жыл бұрын
It’s Aston Martin racing green, which is much lighter than what is now known as British racing green. BRG is a modern colour generally used on road cars as a nod to the past when the British racing colour was green. Aston Martin have always used much lighter greens than say jaguar or cooper, to distinguish them from those cars. This actual colour is probably Almond or Forest green although the AM green colour palette is huge and has changed through the years. Whilst this car is British, a race car, and green. To call it’s colour BRG is a complete misnomer. There is no definitive BRG colour, although it is considered to be a dark green. Britains racing colour was just green, it could be any shade of green, so AM went for a lighter shade whilst jaguar went for a darker shade.
