What happens in the " frunk"🤔
@josefv-y8mАй бұрын
There is no Frunk in any MEB car from VAG(the new Audis have a Frunk, with all its disadvantages...bad turning circle, less space internally) ...the advantage of this is a very short distance of the axle to the Front...9,3m turning circle due to this...12m for the Model 3. Depends what you prefer...

I might have been interested until I heard the words "rear wheel drive". OK I suppose in parts of the world that never get snowy or icy.
@josefv-y8mАй бұрын
It is Not as Bad as you think. In ICEs you have most of the weight on the Front axle and with this no weight on the rear. In EVs you have 50:50 due to the Batterie AND the electric Motor can be controlled much faster to recognize slip and correct it. The Käfer was known for its good snow handling using RWD, but the ICE was on the rear, too
@cihlikАй бұрын
actually it is the better solution for the avoiding of slipping roads in mountains in winter than front wheel drive vehicle...it is the same situation as with the old SKODA 120 with an engine backwards while compares to the newer Skoda Favorit. If the centre of gravity is down and moved backward (typical fo EVs) the grip and efficienty is much more better with rear driven cars. The only problem with rear driven cars was in case the have heavy engine in the front while driven rear wheels -typical for old US cars.....but this is not the case, in fact it is just an oppposite! I live in mountain areas and go to ski very often and I can tell you modern rear wheel drive cars is much more better option than the front wheel driven ones, especially with the so much power electric engine - you do not lose your grip so easy...

Thankfully no Frunk...due to this different construction in MEB, this car as 9,3m turning circle...wasting space for a Frunk means 12m, like in the Model 3 And there is not need for one Pedal drive in VAG Cars...they have adaptive regen...if there is no car in Front and you lift your foot...it coasts ... if there is a car in Front adaptive regen Kicks in and brakes to avoid collision and keeps the distance. If I want a stand still in cities for traffic Light stop...I use ACC, which makes a full stop for you...And...there is no need to keep your foot at the exact Position to keep speed...otherwise...53...47...51...etc...awful. ACC keeps the speed accordingly to the Front car and distance.

VAG "design language is so anonymous that I find it really, really hard to tell the difference between any of them. Add in the plethora of new (IMO, silly and meaninglless) names to REALLY confuse the public, and these days, with the exception of the Golf and Polo (BTW, difficult to tell apart - a new Polo looks too much like an older Golf), I really have no idea wtf I'm looking at. That's not good news if you've got a top of the line big car which looks like a slightly larger version of an entry level, low spec car - and one that doesn't even bear the same badge! BTW, I live in "the real world" and I know that, even if I return that umbrella and screen cleaner, removable bins and whatnot to their original places, my kids and/or wif will never do so and they'll be lost to the great plastic patch in the middle of the ocean within a year of purchase, The shopping bag hooks will be overloaded and break and the hammock will be removed for a big load and never returned. The rear arm rest/poke through hole will get filled with cr*p that the kids just dump and every nook and cranny will end up stuffed with lint/sweet wrappers and twigs. Oh, and the parcel shgelf wirh its neat net will also be removed for some reason, never to return That's the reality. I do like the "simply clever" stuff, but I know how these things go. BTW, I have tried to presuade the rear passengers not to eat, drink or even have stuff in the back, but there are always exceptions which have to be made, and I know exactly how "practical" most of this stuff ends up being, and I know exactly how durable those kind of hooks tend to be.

Looks like a well speced car. Spongy brakes! Does the car have rear drums like the VW ID4? That may explain it. 300+ miles and 175 KWHDC charging. That sounds like a very practical car. Perhaps we have now turned the corner. This is an EV that a lot of families (if they have off road parking and home charging) should seriously consider.
@mr.wizeguy899528 күн бұрын
Brakes feels spongy because slight push for pedal first activates only regeneration and when you push more then activates actual brakes.

Nice review. I wouldn’t worry about the smaller batteries being slow, our Enyaq 60 with 178bhp feels very nippy and plenty of speed pulling away. However my Enyaq VRS is better!!

I think the car looks great and without a testdrive I see it as an interesting alternative to the Mini Countryman (I run a 2015 sd Countryman) and would consider this if I needed to change to electric.

Also very impressed with this car, unfortunately rear wheel drive is just not an option. A mistake on Skoda’s part. Otherwise the spec and stats quite are excellent. Looks great and the interior storage space more than adequate. I live in Switzerland so there is no way I could even consider this with a 4 x 4 option.

We have a 9 year old Yeti Outdoors, our brilliant workhorse. Mrs Z looking for a replacement - this ticks a lot of boxes. For me the Kia EV3 will replace my Soul EV. Not a lot to distinguish one from another in this sector. Oh and I already have a Skoda golf umbrella , I'd hate that to be deal breaker 🙂

The only thing I can consider is the roads look great,they are not like that in the UK, motorways fine,but a roads,b roads,full of potholes.a two ton car is not going to drive as good👍
@johnnodge4327Ай бұрын
A heavy car isn't as upset by potholes as a light car, as the body doesn't get unsettled so easily. Our Ioniq 5 on 20" rims is much more comfortable on our terrible roads than our lighter Audi diesel on smaller wheels.

I had a skoda kamiq and it was a great car, except the automatic gearbox was a bit unpredictable and laggy at times. Replace that with an EV and it looks great. I saw a recent review of the new X3 and it's a total dogs dinner compared to this. I've have this over the BMW any day, it looks better inside and out, is more practical and costs less. I would like to see an EV version of the Octavia, especially as an estate, and a VRS version that didn't cost the earth would be a winner.

@ There is a place for EV’s and unless our government is stopped many people will be forced to off the road. Our second car will possibly be EV. I like technology and innovation. JCB have developed a hydrogen ICE engine and are producing and delivering hydrogen as does BOC. This is also happening in Australia. If hydrogen becomes a option I would certainly look at.

OK looks are subjective but to my eyes this looks totally boring like most of the German EV offerings. As for RWD I know all the motoring hacks love it but if you have to drive on real roads in winter conditions its a disaster and absolute no-no. The irony is that with an EV its easy to add a second motor to get 4WD and you get many advantages without a signifcant range or weight penalty- makes no sense at all.
@PHADAVIESАй бұрын
I'm 10000 miles into an Enyaq 85x. WTLP 330mls and it does it easily, maybe 20% loss in the winter. The performance is excellent, look at the stuff that does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds ,plus the torque.. The comfort of the Elroq is partly due to the long wheel base ,compare it to it's rivals. Reckon it'll be a great drive as it is an Enyaq without the rear over hang! As for the touch screen haters, most things can be voice activated, safer than switches??

Another great video, Ped. I’m a Skoda fan (I have a Superb and my missus has a Karoq) and now that they’re both getting on a bit (the cars, not the car and the missus) this could be a good replacement choice. Also just love the roads on Mallorca. Much smoother now they’ve spent all that EU money on tarmac, unlike our potholed pavement. I wonder why manufacturers like the press to test drive their cars there? 🤔 I remember driving up to Valledemossa back when it was still a windy, bumpy road in all sorts of clapped out hire cars, the best one being an original Twingo. Nearly went down the side of the ‘mountain’ when we met a lorry coming the other way in the middle of the road! Re your comment about the Yeti, isn’t it coming back? I’m sure there’s videos on KZbin about it? One last thing, I know the rear quarter bumper panels are plastic, but why can they be painted so that there’s no significant shade variation. Look at the car side on and the colour difference stands out a mile (or should that be kilometre?😜)

I am sorry to say that, but I don't understand why some reviewers, when they are offered to review a family car, keep comparing them to sports cars. It's Skoda FFS. It's a family car by the decision of VW concern. Do you want a sports car from VW? Buy Audi or Porsche...

A beautifully presented video Peter - the type you do exceedingly well (IMHO 😂). Agree that your job is becoming ever more difficult with fewer differentiators (torque, gearbox noise etc) between these cars. This is why looks and attention to detail are becoming more and more important. Car looks great again IMO in it's simplicity in the same way as the forthcoming mini VW ID2 does. The brolly, screen cleaner and ice scraper may be a little gimmicky but very useful and reassure the customer that the brand has thought things through and may even tip the balance on buying a similarly priced car from another manufacturer. Agree with you that a pan roof is almost a deal breaker nowadays. It doesn't need to open but it does need to brighten the cabin. Safe home, sorry you didn't have time to get the bike out.
