The Nimzowitsch Attack is the most aggressive way to fight the Petrov Defense. It results in an imbalanced middlegame and deprives black the option of a peaceful game!
The Petrov Defense has a notorious reputation for being annoyingly equal and drawing. This makes it a great weapon for players with white who wish to avoid sharp openings and look forward to a peaceful game likely ending in a peaceful result. But here the Nimzowitsch Attack comes in!
As opposed to almost all other variations white can choose from, this aggressive attacking idea is very straightforward and it wastes no time in attempting to create attacking chances. White immediately goes for queenside castling (even accepting a structural defect - doubled c pawns). The plan is simple: Be3, Qd2, 0-0-0. This is very different to setups where white castles short. Diagonals are wide open, and the center is great for bishops (and all four are on the board). The e file is a battleground and both sides have chances!
Black can now (unfortunately) choose between two approaches. Castling short, leading to an imbalanced game, or castling long same as white, which makes the position equalish again. Regardless of what he chooses, though, the resulting middlegames are going to be much more interesting to the attacking player than those coming from the Classical Petrov.
This is why the Nimzowitsch Attack is the weapon of choice for all those who wish not to allow black an easy draw!

This is my personal favorite attack against the Petrov. Most Petrov players at the lower levels aren't used to playing the sharper attacking ideas that come from this attack.

6:50 actually after 11. Qf4 there is an incredible engine draw with 11...g5! 12. Qg3 Re4 13. d4 Rg4 14. Qh3 Rh4 and a repetition. To avoid this 11. Qd5 should be played and white enjoys a comfortable edge. Great video as always.

I love your content; clear, concise and very well laid out with one variation per video. I’ve learnt heaps since I found your channel so thank you! I do have a question though, at 17:10 after white plays h4 doesn’t Nxf3 gxf3 Bxh4 win a pawn for black?

This will open the h-file. After Bd3, doubling up with the rooks on the h-file black is in real danger

You ask the compenstaion fir the pawn after d5? White can play g5, where he gets the knight after Nxg5 Bxg5 or making a draw after Qg3. Then black can bring his rook to the 4. row and then to g4, where the queen has only h3 and then after Rh4 it is move repetition

Would be great to see you play a game against an engine, perhaps on 'Friend Mode' whereby the engine plays at your strength

If you think ,It looks like Berlin endgame kind of thing ,But...... In Berlin ,the position is kind like White has a majority on king side , But in this ,you have equal chances

Petrov defense is a black opening, isn't it better to flip the board and play as black ?

In the same sence one can argue that the Nimzowitsch-Attack is a "white opening"...

Well, since I'm covering an attack for white, I think it's ok to see it from white's perspective.
