Im in the uk here and never seen stainless steel backplates, and any that did appear on ebay were for the cars with rear drum brakes, the peugeot dealer was my only option also. But to be honest i think the rear drum brakes are better than the disk/drum setup in my car, the handbrake on them are much stronger and the backplates made of much thicker steel

The calliper is easy to remove if you have brake line spanners undo the brake hose nut going to the calliper but you need to clamp the brake hose and bleed out the new calliper once its fitted. But how do you know if the whole system is full of rust, are the callipers seizing? Ill see what i can do with the breaker 406 to see if i can make some sort of calliper change video on it, without actually buying a new calliper.

Yep, use a bit of tippex or similar to mark the old track rod ends position, and also count how many threads that it came off, and try and get it back in the same position. Then get the wheels aligned by a professional as soon as possible, to avoid it pulling to one side or cutting through the tyres. You might not need a track rod end, the alignment could just be off.

I damaged the old track rod end with the ball joint splitter so got a new one anyway. I kept adjusting the the track rod end on the drivers side til the drivers side wheel was straight and the steering wheel was centre.

Them balljoint splitters can indeed damage the track rod end, what type did you use? the fork type or one that pushes the track rod end out? I still would advise getting the wheels aligned on one of them laser alignment machines, then the wheels are set up right and will not wear prematurely

I do have some questions? Can you please make a more specific video on how to change the whole calliper. My whole system is full of oxid(rust) and I think I should change everything but I don't know how to change the the whole calliper and the cilinder. Thanks in advance

I had a front wheel bearing replaced and I put a new wishbone in on the right hand side front of my 206. But now the tracking is way out and the steering wheel is to the left. Fitting a new track rod end on the drivers side today. Should I make sure the new track rod end has the same amount of threads left on it than the left hand side, Should this even it out again?

hi there, I have a Peugeot 607 2002 and I need to change all 4 brake disc shields. Can give me some help on how to find new ones and/or what compatibility might be with other models? Best, Andrei
@peugeotCitroen2CV8 жыл бұрын
I dont remember a disk shield on the front of my 607, however, the rear ones i see part numbers for them. Rear Left is 422195 Rear Right is 421295 They are about £80 from the dealers each, although with them part numbers you can have a look on google to see what alternatives may be available.

The fork type as my local factors didnt have the other type. Ill have to pick one up from halfords or something. Ill get tracking done at a garage as soon as i can then thanks

I shorten down (or speed up) the boring bits such as nuts and bolts being undone. Although at the end i say reinstall a number of things (handbrake cable, shoes etc) the handbrake cable goes back in easy enough but the shoes i find are impossible to do with the camera in the way. However i have purchased a 406 for spares and do plan to make a video just on taking apart and putting in brake shoes.

What kind of sockets did you use exactly? 40 mm and 33 mm socket?
@peugeotCitroen2CV10 жыл бұрын
i can't remember exactly but i think it was 40 and 36 i bought the bigger sockets separately as my other socket sets stop at 32.

Please! Please could you tell me where i could get a backplate.. I have been searching for months for one with no luck
@peugeotCitroen2CV10 жыл бұрын
They are as rare as hens teeth, the problem is that they will be in a similar state even on an 04 car by now. Ade at the coupe club breaks 406es and can get you secondhand backplates but they will have rust on them The dealer is the only place to get new ones in good condition, they are expensive so its worthwhile getting them painted or annodised to prevent rust

Why 4 screw setup again?? Why not swap to way better 5 screw setup??
@peugeotCitroen2CV5 жыл бұрын
Im not sure exactly what you are referring to. Is it 4 wheel bolts? If thats the case 4 wheel bolts are all that's needed to hold the wheel on, the 406 was never available with a 5 bolt wheel setup so youd have to get hubs and disks from a 5 stud car and the only peugeots to use 5 studs from this era were the 605 and 607 but then getting disks and pads for those two cars means more waiting about. So i dont see any advantage to 5 wheel bolts on a 406
@Cosm1c_695 жыл бұрын
@@peugeotCitroen2CV Ok so I will repeat what people say like in videos about adapters and one of my friends that also have 406 coupe as me and he try hard to find legal way to have 5 bolt alloy wheel on his car. So biggest advantage is that having 5 bolt allows user to pick from way wider variety of alloy wheels than just 4 bolt versions. Also of cours it is a little bit safer to have +1 no doubt about it. Now what my friend said is that Peugeot 406 have different design in terms of ammount of those... how you call it?... teeths on center main thing that you put lug on, on propulsive axle. So using 5 bolt lug is almost impossible as he said. Well I have no idea if as you said 605 and 607 have the same lug mount as 406 to simply swap from 605/607 As I said he seeks way to have it legal swap and I have adapters changing 4 to 5 bolts but as for legality in my country (poland) it is a problem when we want to talk about insurances.
@peugeotCitroen2CV5 жыл бұрын
@@Cosm1c_69 Ah i see a wider range of alloys. To be honest i prefer the car to have its original alloys on it, this car had a set of aftermarket ones for a while but i managed to get a set of nimrods and had them refurbished. The car looks a lot more respectable with a set of good condition factory alloys than aftermarket ones. Although that is a subjective opinion and i totally understand some may prefer to change the look of their car. On the safety aspect 4 bolts are perfectly safe. Even older peugeots/citroens used 3 bolts with no problems. I really dont think there is any added safety with the extra bolt, just ensure they are correctly torqued. An adapter or spacer may be what you need to gain the 5 bolt pattern, not sure if such a thing exists to go from 4 to 5. They can cause issues with adding vibrations into the car when it is driving. Take a look at the newer alloys fitted to 307, 407 etc some are quite good looking, have 4 bolts and may provide the look you are after.
@Cosm1c_695 жыл бұрын
@@peugeotCitroen2CV as you said it is a preferences. I do not like factory ones. Also 5 look very cool and nice. Fills more space not like 4. If car have more power then it is better to have 5 obviously. Yes there are 4 to 5 adapters. I use them and have 5 bolts. But as I mentioned in Poland it is a problem in terms of insurance.

Nobody has the Rear Backplate in Netherland. Can you send it to me?
@peugeotCitroen2CV11 жыл бұрын
They are very hard to get here, any used ones i seen were badly rusted, i had to order mine from the dealer and they took a week to arrive. Your dealer should be able to get you some (although they are not cheap) alternatively i did wonder would it be possible to purchase them from a country with a warmer climate such as southern france or italy where hopefully the used backplates would be in much better condition than the used UK ones which are exposed to our damp climate and salted roads. There is someone on the 406 coupe club called ade who occasionally has some in good condition, it would be worthwhile registering on 406oc and the 406 coupe club and asking for them.
@bestbuildpc11 жыл бұрын
I searched on internet for the backplates and I found on ebay they made it stainless steal but only in UK, in my country I can not find it and I think I will have to go to a peugeot dealer.

These days a pair of backing plates are £45 delivered on ebay uk (non OE). They can't charge much more or they would be worth more than the value of the car !
