Brilliant thanks, I just changed the cambelt on my Citroen C5 with this engine. It was a little harder because the coolant tank is the exact same on the C5 but you cant move it easily because the BHI unit for the Hydractive suspension is in the way! Mostly it is identical to this though and my flywheel had a simple 8mm hole for the timing unlike your 407. Fun job, One trick I do to make fitting the new belt easier is to mark the teeth with paint like you do and fitting on the cam sprocket you can use 2 tie wraps to hold it while you work below to fit the belt to the crank pulley and the rest. Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work!

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I need to do the crankshaft oil seal so will need to do the timing belt to get to it. The belt, pulleys and water pump are recent so just going to clean up and replace the belt if contaminated with oil. I appreciate your style of working in the back yard with basic tools, although I have ordered the flywheel locking tool!

Thankyou for a good comment mate. I 100% support professional locking tool is good thing to have and use. I think if I would do a cambelt now on any car I would do crankshaft seal and camshaft seal just to be on a safe side as its good to have it done and forget about it. And also they are not that expensive and then just other crankshaft seal then you do clutch.

I’ve got the same engine in my Ford Kuga and have a leaking crankshaft oil seal too. How did the job go? Mine also had cambelt done only two years / 8,000 miles ago. Sadly.
@DA-oy7zp
@DA-oy7zp 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmbell Job went OK thanks. Used the old seal along with the sprocket to push the new one in - 1mm at a time with constant checking so as not to deform it or push it in too far! Did the camshaft seal too but very tricky - needs a variety of washers and round things. Flywheel locking tool essential for torquing up the crank pulley to avoid damage to the timing socket on the flywheel. Belt fairly easy to replace, tippex marks help a lot with this. Good luck.

Hi mate is difficult to advise but use some phone camera or something make sure once again that tensioner is placed in a place correct as it needs to be finger tight 13 mm bolt as you did already but also one metal bit have to hug another little metal bit on a head. Tension itself is also weird as if you over spin a hex key then you loose a tension again I am not sure how to explain it properly.

Hi, great video!! What is the procedure if cam belt slipped 1 tooth and there is no refference to bring it back in place? Thanks
@Mad4FrenchCars
@Mad4FrenchCars 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. If you have a cambelt slipped 1 tooth you should be able to stick 8mm lock pin to a flywheel and the camshaft pin hole would be off just by a millimeters so if you take of a cambelt and then put 17mm spanner on a camshaft bolt you should be able to turn camshaft by hand tiny bit until a 8mm hole perfectly lined up. Once lined up 8mm pin should be installed in to a locking hole. Then installing a new cambelt you would have to make sure cambelt pull is tensioned properly and a floating crank pulley sits right in a middle. I am sorry if that doesn't make it clear Its not easy to explain it without showing it

@@Mad4FrenchCars Thanks for your reply! It does make sens to me . I did comment on your video because so far I see there is an explination for every detail so that make it easy for people to understand procedures . For example in my case I got a 2005 307 XSI 2.0 HDI 136bhp RHR ,I had problem with starting or it just stop by itself while driving, I had checked and change fuel filter and fuel lines,new battery , alternator and starter in good condition. No problem with BSI as well . I have no lights showing on dashboard. So there is the point where I was getting confused and I asked some friends mechanichs ,they told me that the cam sensor or crank sensor are not reading well, I changed sensors ,the same story. So I arrived at the conclusiton that timing is not lined up properly (does have symptoms of slipped tooth) but sensors wont be able to give a fault or check engine will not show in this case . So I decided to change the timing rather than line it up as car has over 106k miles and I have no records that timing was ever changed. The problem now its that I dont have any markings for the previous position on the belt so I could find out from the tensioner ,and belt tension that was slipped so its the first case where I dont have any refference of belt position. Thank you

@@robertszpua7884 hi mate really hard to advise without seeing it. I think that your timming is off so either a Tensioning or something went wrong. Check Tensioning pulley again to see where it sits an arrow should be in a middle of that U bit. If you remove a pins you should be able to turn the cranck back a bit to line the pin hole and if a camshaft hole is off then you can turn a camshaft with spanner a bit to line it up once a cranck pin is lined and cambelt off. It a sticky situation as you don't want to brake the rockers if you remove a cambelt and turn things individually. Should try to line cranck and then camshaft. Hi Jay please try watch video again I have explained why crank pulley is moving the way it does, it's becouse its a flowting crankshaft pulley hdi engines have that to help with a cambelt instalation, then you put a new cambelt on you pull crankshaft pulley to one side so then you tighten a cambelt it goes right in a middle and little pin has a free play indicating you done it right.

@Mad4FrenchCars 3 жыл бұрын
Hello the cambelt is good for anything between 60k - 100k miles or 10years for original cambelt and 4-6years for after market cambelt as even original cambelt after 10years starts to crack. Also it depends who replaced it also a brand of a cambelt. Normally i replace every 100k miles but i do 100k miles in around 18 months.

Hi, it's me again, hope your cold is getting better. Are you able to confirm under the metal cam cover there is no actual gasket ? Is it just gasket sealant on the surfaces ? I have new gasket set for the plastic cover, but nothing came for the metal cover, I have bought a special grey sealant as I am inclined to think that is what they have used as there were no gasket under metal cover when I removed it ?
@Mad4FrenchCars

I am not gonna a lie I can't confirm but I can tell you from my own experience. So I know that sometimes there is a gasket going around injector holes around a middle. However I think if you properly seal it with sealant gasket you should be absolutely fine. Then I have done rockers replacement job on 2.0hdi I haven't used any extra gasket only a sealant and it was absolutely fine just need to make sure you seal it all up with sealant properly.

can i make just one sujestion sir , oh great viseo by the way , BUT , i see people do this all the time when undoing a bolt , they tend to pull up on the bolt , expending a lot of energy doing so , had you took the socket and breaking bar to the other side , and push down to release the bolt , it is much easier to push down that to pull up , example , you would never pull up to release a wheel nut , you put a breaker bar on it and stand on it using body weight to release it , same thing applies to all bolts , push rather than pull .

@Mad4FrenchCars 3 жыл бұрын
Hello my friend. Fault P1351 is a pre/post heating relay circuit. Which basicly means your glow plugs or glow plug relay is gone. In UK 90% of 407s have that fault but it doesn't really affect anyone as there is no real winter here so no preheating needed. But in a cold country it would cause a problem with starting. To get rid of your fault you need to replace glow plugs and if that doesn't fix a problem then need to replace a little glow plug loom too.

@Mad4FrenchCars

Good point we'll its just a little reassurance to know for yourself that you didn't skip a tooth then tensioning and that everything is exactly same place like it was.
@Mad4FrenchCars
@Mad4FrenchCars 3 жыл бұрын
Even with locking pegs some people still manage to put a cambelt in a way that they miss one tooth becouse of flowting pulley on a crankshaft in place there is still a tiny play where you can miss a tooth then doing a cambelt up. Don't get me wrong I don't really know how but there is a people I know who have managed it. So it kind of give a extra safety option to mark the belts and teeth up. Some people think they done it all right but they actually missed a tooth and it will run just not as good and belt is not gonna last as long. And if the belt goes before its time then rockers will all snap in half in a best case scenario and then it will become head cover off job.

We all do mistakes mate cranck bolt is always gonna be a pain to get out becouse it's a big bolt and they put that cement thing on it so that it wouldn't come out. We all make mistakes I fought I am gonna snap a glow plug today my hands was shaking. Not always things go to plan I try my best to show a process as it is but sometimes I have to film a scene like 5 times couse I said something which I didn't mean to say. So some bolts I have already undone before few times as I repeated a scene but most of it is raw and natural.

@@khalidacosta7133 ya the cement is quite a strong stuff. I would try to do a bit of forward and backwards action. Turn it tiny bit anticlockwise and then back clockwise. As you could see I didn't heat it up and it came out fine but I wouldn't be able to say 100 % that it's gonna work for everyone.

You better dont use a screwdriver to lock the flywheel. It is always better to lock the crankshaft with the 2 pieces of special tools to avoid big problems.I have seen many times broken pieces falling down. ( Tip of the screwdriver enz...) Some guys using the thoot blocker only en then complaining that its breaking. Of course its gonna breake because it is to small to do hold the force alone. The 8mm pin and the thootholder togetter will do the job without problems

Yes mate its still possible to skip a tooth on a belt if you put it without marking its just a extra precaution to make sure 100% that you put it on exactly same as it was. If you skip 1 tooth then a work of engine will be different and cause problems.
