If I controlled big decisions like that I would be paid a fuck ton more and CERTAINLY not be here talking to you. I just relay the message and do what I can. You screaming at me is not going to change anything. Ive had years working in this type of field and call centers and I could never be as calm as this man. Thats next level shit. Thats why I loved working in sales. As long as I was making sales and stayed professional, I could call horrible ppl out and when they say smth abt my customer service, Id hit them with "Im not customer service but I can transfer you there, though." bc if you werent making a sale, they didnt want you wasting your energy and time on them.

That crying lady could be crying in a manipulative way, but at the same time, I’ve had many anxiety attacks over the years, and that hyperventilating sounds realistic to me. It’s clear the job she was supposed to fly out for is very important to her, and it’s possible she’s running on a very tight schedule and simply can’t afford to be late, especially if she’s been late before. Her not wanting to let those teachers down resonates with me a bit as well, because I hate letting people down when they’re depending on me. The pressure of being in her situation and needing to be on time would be stressful enough to me as it is, and since I don’t handle stress very well, missing that flight would probably start an anxiety attack for me. When I have had episodes before, I’ve usually calmed down from them after an hour, if they didn’t already last an hour, and I find I would normally have recovered and been able to laugh at myself for my reaction/situation well before 4 hours. Used to have bad anxiety episodes before and during exams in high school. I don’t blame her for her reaction, because I probably wouldn’t have been much different.
@singingchristian8 ай бұрын
I know you commented this 2 years ago but I was thinking the same thing! I never take it out on the employees but I once had to travel with my two older parents. My mom is blind and can’t walk and it’s very stressful as I always feel responsible for her. My dad checked in 30 seconds late and was forced to take another flight there. I had a panic attack in the airport just from the stress of having to organize my parents travels and having him go off on his own not being sure if he’d be able to connect back safely with us. You can’t control a panic attack. So i disagree with pewds gently that you can conteol how you react. You can obviously not take it out on others though. I knew it wasn’t the workers fault.
@Ben_Kimber8 ай бұрын
@@singingchristian Yep, anxiety isn't fun. I will say that the frequency and magnitude of my panic attacks have thankfully steadily declined over the past few years, and I just completed the first university semester in which I don't remember having a single panic attack, when previous semesters always contained at least one. A panic attack is a rough experience though. You can't just "snap out of it." At least, I can't do that. I have to ride it out. Weather the storm, if you will. While I can somewhat control my behaviour to not make too much of a scene, my breathing is not as easily controlled, nor are some other behaviours. Controlling how you act towards others during a panic attack is one of the most important skills to learn for someone who experiences them often enough. Tough to do when you can't calm the tornado that your thoughts have become.

I thought that arriving 1-2 hours early was just standard. I am late for everything, but arriving early and waiting 5 hours for my 5-hour flight is just part of the flying experience. You get there and get to your flight's gate and just zone out until your flight, and then be in a weird half-awake but still aware state the entire day.

My family always wants to be at the airport 4/5 hours earlier than the actual take-off. I once had the “genius” idea of leaving my suitcase completely empty and packing it the day of our flight, and doing this made us go later than usual. My family got super stressed out because of that and got scared we’d miss our flight and I felt very guilty about it. Guess what? We were still like 2/3 hours on time before our flight. You’re completely right, arriving way too early is all part of taking the airplane. Cause if something happens and you arrive on the airport later than planned, you are STILL wildly on time.

A lot of times companies screw up things and do not even try when you are paying good money. They do not care and make no attempt to deliver a product that you paid for. As someone who owns a business and deals a lot with ordering things like uniforms companies will run all over you. Unless you throw a fit and make a big deal nothing gets done. For example I was ordering a large box of tickets from office max for 2 thousand dollars and they sent be a complete wrong order with ten instead of 100 books. I tried approaching them friendly and they did nothing and would not send me the remaining 90 books. I had to throw a fit with multiple people and make a huge deal of it for me to finally months later receive my actual order. If I had just acted friendly they would have blown me off and let it be. This constantly happens with these customer service people doing as little as possible and not providing even close to what you order. They will do as little as possible and rip you off if you let them. Constantly I am dealing with placing orders that are delivered entirely wrong and have to fight tooth and nail to get what I paid for. It is the sad truth but you have to get mad and fight with a lot of companies to get the product you paid for. People act like this because it delivers results not because they have fun doing it.

Almost same situation, me and like 10 more people missed a plane from DC to San Francisco (it was going to be my 3rd plane to get home) due weather problems. We were running thru that whole airport and got to the gate right on departure time but gate closed couple min before we got there. They did not wanted to let us go and it was stressing seeing the plane right there and knowing we were not going to do anything that will let us go in. In Customer Service they tell us no hotels, give me and my 2 friends another ticket with a 25hr wait, it was already 11pm and nothing but a bottle with tooth brush and couple more things. We slept on the floor and a nice janitor gave us some blankets, the every couple hrs we asked if there were empty seats available of people not showing. We finally got lucky after 20 hr wait. None of the people that were unlucky to loose the flight made a scene, yes we were upset but got lucky everyone seems to have some class or manners, or maybe to tired to make a scene jajajaja

I've always had such good experiences with Southwest. Probably a fluke but everytime I talk to thier customer service as long as I'm nice and explain the situation they always seem to make it right. Even bending the polices/rules.

I actually felt bad for the crying woman. I got the vibe that she could just be a diligent person who broke down from stress and from the fact that she’s letting other people down. Sometimes people have their weak moments. At least she wasn’t rude.

Yelling, especially at some random employee, won't solve any problems by why the hell do they sell seat tickets if the flight is overbooked? They claim they make losses on empty seats but how can that be true since they're entitled to compensation and even offer volunteers up to thousands of dollars? It just seems like a huge no-brainer to me.

I used to think it was funny when people cry for missing a flight, but I work in an airport lounge and i saw one like 25 year old girl sobbing like crazy and i was like wow that's dramatic. But then she made a phone call, and I found out she was about to miss her loved ones funeral because her flight was canceled. I've never judged someone for crying about it again.
