How Bayonetta’s Specialists Pushed Her To New Heights

Considering that I always enjoyed how flashy Bayonetta was in Smash 4, I'm glad that she's far more balanced in this game so I don't have to worry about cheering for her while she was OP. It also helps that many consider her to be a mid tier, before Bloom and Lima started pulling good results. Cheering for the underdog mid tier is always fun as well.

The only downside I have with bayo is that many of her moves look somewhat similar especially side B and up B which are the most used moves. So when she goes for ladder combos, you feel like you are watching the smae move being spammed for 10 seconds. At 2:10 I like how it is expressed, the string look guarantied but are dependant on SDI and because of the moves' design, you can't see it appreciate it fully when watching them play.

@@fourniervictor9354 I disagree. The moves have the same style of particle effects, but none of them look the same. Especially since all of her moves do different things. I mean, her specials go in completely different directions, sound different, and have different knockback, and her aerials are all unique

As Tweek mentioned in his podcast Bayo is also very anti-META, she beats or goes even with every popular character right now besides Aegis. Kazuya Steve Minmin Sonic Wario Rob Palu ZSS Roy, etc she either shits on or goes even. Like she randomly does good against almost every top tier. The characters that used to demolish Bayo like Olimar, Pichu, GW, Snake, have all become unpopular or underrepresented. Bayo is also just like a hard MU check. You have to play really good grounded neutral to avoid ABK and also be patient due to witch time/reversals and know the quirks of her moves. She's bizarre and annoying to fight.

@@thistamndypo The sonic MU is even. The thing is bayo hates getting camped but she also has amazing camping; shes very hard to catch. So with sonic/joker you get the lead and run away and camp and they lose, and vise versa. its just whoever gets the lead first; so most top bayos believe its even. According to Marss Bayo is like very high tier if she has the lead, because she cant approach/has no neutral; but her punish game is broken, so camping via a lead forces the opponent to come to you so she can abuse punishing and avoid approaching

I haven't seen the video yet so I'm going to list my opinions first then edit in a response. Bayonetta"s recent success is stems from one reason I don't think can be denied. It might even have her show up on people's top 20s later on if the meta develops and that reason is: Bayonetta's Weighted MU spread went up. Correct me if I'm wrong but Bayo wins against Steve, Kazuya, Rob, and Aegis right? She can escape air tight combos, has decent mobility, and probably commits war crimes on characters like Rob with a big hurtbox and Aegis who have less recovery resources than Little Mac. They've gotten more popular and likely to run in bracket hence why Bayo's WMU scale has increased favorably. Lemme watch and see if I was close and comment below if you want to add anything or correct me on Bayo's matchup spread. Edit: Oh. It's a playstyle comparison vid. Whoops, but hey, I am glad they're making this a regular thing. Honestly, this does bring up a wrench: While Bayonetta's WMU scale is getting higher, it means nothing when as they said, it takes a character specialist to main her, and those are few and far between. So even if the meta favors Bayonetta, it means nothing if the number of players can't rise to effectively shift the meta in a place where now people have to counterpick her to make a new meta entirely, which was my hope.

I see and I agree. It's both. If people were able to pick up Bayo in Sm4sh, then it won't be that hard in Ultimate. Look at how hard Kazuya and Steve are. They are hard to master. So they powercrept the meta even though we knew they was gonna be crazy. Who's to say that can't happen to Bayonetta again?

Bayonetta and Ike are the same. (Funny considering I main both) Ike came into the meta blazing on the back of MKLeo, and perception of him was considered High or Low-Top Tier. After the meta learned how to deal with him, he went into Mid Tier where he truly belongs. Bayonetta is doing this now. While nobody is going THAT far with her, people are beginning to believe she is better than what they had thought before. Whether this is a one off thing or not, we'll see. Either way, love to see it.
