@@LustrousLiam the condensation forms on the lids of your agar cups because of the temperature difference between the hot liquid agar and the cool room air above it, so stacking the cups keeps hot liquid on top of the cup below it minimizing that temperature difference. The problem is when you stack your last agar cup on the top it will still form condensation on its lid, but if you put hot water into a cup to then stack on top of your stack it will work the same way, therefore all of your agar cups should get minimal condensation on their lids.

The reason stacking the cups stops condensation is because you're keeping the lids warm. Condensation happens when hot water vapour meets a cold surface so it cools down and turns back to liquid water. If you keep the lids warm, there are no surfaces to condense the water vapour on 10/10 video btw

Especially not dedicated albums with 1000s of pictures all relating to the one specific area of cultivation. Its not hard to cut through the noise and ancient posts, just filter them so you are only reading the contemporary stuff. Condensation forms where two different temperatures meet. It's why you fog up your car windows with hot air in the winter, but cold air will clear it right up, because it's cold outside. The bottom agar cups lack condensation because the lids are the same temperature as the agar, minus the top one. If you leave your agar cups in your seedling warming box (you know the one I mean!) the condensation will go away.

@@Mama-Sensei do you use liquid cultures or spores for this? I want to try both and eventually learn to clone with it. Also,can the agar alone be steam sterilized instead of pressure cooked?
@Mama-Sensei3 жыл бұрын
@@dressedanddepressed2301 I've applied both lq & spores, had much better results with lq. I've done both sterilization processes and didn't see better results with one or the other. I've also made an lq using a fully colonized agar cup. Worked out great.

For the condensation on the top cups you can fill some of the cups with warm water and put them on top 😊

This is like the 6th time I’ve watched this video. It’s so good. Ive been working with agar for 2 or 3 months now and I’ve learned so much from you Philly Golden Teacher. Thank you. I’m about to pour some more agar into Jelly jars and start some more spores to grow into mycelium. I’m enjoying this so much. And, Ive learned so much. Thank you, Sensei. Thanks🙏

Works great! I will add an Instant Pot can be used for small agar, like this but only if it's all you have already, I had no contams my first go with pour over oven..

+1 on the instant pot. A 500 ml bottle wouldn't fit standing up so I used Boomer Shroomer's tek for tilting the bottle just enough so it would fit while propping it with small jars (baby food size) I had laying around the house. I'm guessing 1/2 pint wide mouth mason jars might work as well.

Philly, can you go over the process of producing a monoculture from your agar grown mycelium? There seems to be a big lack of good information on the monoculture process. Mush Love!

An even easier and cheaper agar recipe is just saving your grain water from soaking and boiling your grains. some people use 50/50 grain water and just regular water. but I use 100% grain water and it works great

Great tip! I will have to try that out next time.

Instead of pressure cooking the agar bottle, could I follow the same instructions if I poured directly into mini mason jars? I have lots of extras of those and would love to cut down on some plastic usage
