Yes, that is original lead singer Tarja (Tarrr-ya) Turunen. End of an Era DVD is the concert in Helsinki, 21st of Oct 2005. Same show as the "High Hopes" video you watched. Song #5 in an 18 song set. Last show on the 'Once' album tour, and Tarja's last Nightwish show after 9 years and 5 albums. She was fired after the show, all the guys knew , but she didn't. She has gone on to a long and successful solo career. Arrangement in this version is by Tuomas. Andrew Lloyd Weber has seen this, and loved it. This is my favorite version because of Marko. Nightwish would not perform this again for 17 years, with Floor and Dutch Phantom Henk Poort. Floor and Marko never sang this together. Nightwish lead singers: Tarja ('96-'05), Anette Olzon, from Sweden, ('07-'12), and Floor ('12 - present).

Tarja Turunen was the original singer. She's a part of the reason why Nightwish is Nightwish. At the beginning, Tuomas (the leader of the band) wanted to create a Folk music band. all the members of the group knew each other before. The singing style of the girl scheduled to sing, Tarja, did not suit with what Tuomas had in mind. She had a more operatic style, so Tuomas had to rethink his band and write songs that would go more with her style. And that gave Nightwish as we know it.

This is my favourite version of Phantom of the Opera 🥰🥰 And like others have said, there is also a more recent version with Floor (there is also a more recent version from Tarja and Marko perfroming this... that's from last year). This indeed was with Tarja. After Tarja there was Anette and now Floor❤ After Tarja's career in Nightwish she started her own solo career under her first name, Tarja. She is still touring the world and making music (new rock album coming out next year). Tarja has trained her voice over the years and experimented in other styles than just the lied and classical type of singing.

Tarja is just pure magic and the main reason i guess that Nightwish ever became so popular. I discovered them back in 1998 and in the end it was her voice i fell in love with them. I really love Floor, she is an incredible singer, but Tarja just had her very own kind of "magic" that made them so great at that time. I personally think there are many songs that are better showcases of her voice. The Siren, Planet Hell, Nemo, Wish I had an Angel, Bless the Child, Forever Yours, Kuolema tekee taiteilijan I enjoy much more when talking specifically about her voice. I just don't like her big wobbly vibrato in that final sequence. I much prefer Floor's interpretation, which is closer to musical theater which is what the Phantom is, where she uses a purer straight tone with a touch of vibrato at the end of each phrase.

Considering that 10 yrs and 5 albums of songs were written for her voice I think that statement makes no sense. But the reality is you can enjoy all versions of NW. The vibe changes. Tarja was darker goth Tolkien. Annette was poppy. Floor is more pure metal. Tarja (tar-ee-ya) is the OG and co founder. All differently great singers and friends.

Tarja Turunen was the original lead singer and founding member of the band, 1996-2005. She was eventually replaced by Anette Olzen, 2007-2012. Floor Jansen replaced her, mid-tour in 2012 and remains the lead singer. This was Tarja’s final concert - End of an Era.

@@TJandTheGringa In short she was being a diva being late for rehearsal having a giant ego and keeping away from the band and the band got tired of her antics so they fired her by giving her a letter. She said she was going to leave after the next album but Tuomas decided to end her tenure early to stick it to her. They hired Anette Olzen in 2006 from Sweden to replace her a year later till Anette was fired in 2012 and Floor was hired.

Basically the band and Tarja had grown in different musical directions and she wanted to explore a more diverse career going solo, so they sort of agreed together she would leave the band amicably to pursue said career after a last album and tour, except the mastermind of the band is not exactly skilled in handling people's feeling and relationships, so he got cold feet and got the band to fire her publicly after their biggest tour to date and at least one year before agreed, with an accusing letter they published on their website and without telling her directly. She didn't know they were going to fire her and the manner in which everything was handled was so childish that it lead to a MASSIVE backlash against the band and Tarja, who had to literally flee to Argentina to escape unwanted attention. The band would then hire a singer who was fired as well in 2012 in an even worse way. Let's say they're not the best at handling relations with their own members. Also only 2 of the founding members of NW are still in the band today.

I miss Marko in the newer version. Henk performs the phantom closer to the original musical whereas Marko has a lot more distorted sound which fits the words of the song really well. Henk learned to do some distortion too but he's not yet pro with that.

Looks like the division is as strong as ever with many Nightwish fans. This is definitely not the "wrong" version, regardless of the normalized delulu of some people. It is the most right version; Andrew Lloyd Webber-approved. The other versions being pushed are good of course, but when is the best live band in the world ever not good? Beste Zangers was a huge moment personally for Floor Jansen and the Amsterdam Nightwish version was a sweet fulfilment of a promise, but neither will take the iconic status away from this performance. People will always have goofy opinions and that is a core human characteristic, but to say it is the wrong version is absurd and to try throwing dirt on a good time is only going to be a bad look for the thrower. Go ahead and learn this now if you've been slow. 🔥🤘🔥

This was the last concert with Tarja. Immediately afterwards, she was fired due to artistic and private differences. At this time, Nightwish was successful in the mainstream media. This is probably why they hired a pop singer as her successor. The tactic worked well at the beginning, but with the opera singer, Nightwish lost its uniqueness. The second album with Anette did not sell as well as expected. This led to the next crisis that almost destroyed the band. There is also a version with Floor that is closer to the original. I never got a chance to see Nightwish live when I was a teenager. I remember how pissed I was because I didn't get the permission to go to their concert in Hartwall areena in the end of 2005. And then they kicked Tarja out and I thought I will never get the chance to see their epic phantom of the opera live. This summer, I saw them sing this live and what can I say... They are so good together and I really enjoy seeing them so happy after all this time. ❤ Will definitely go and see them live again next year!

The best version of this song with Nightwish is actually from a concert in Italy, Milan, taken with a fan cam, where Tuomas can hardly stand behind his keyboard...it is absolutely amazing.

For most songs Floor is the better fit for Nightwish and todays audiences. Tarja has a beautiful voice and excelled in many songs but i believe floor has more power and charisma and can be more versatile.

This is old (and great), Newer Tarja Id suggest Tarja - Unforgiven. In metal church. This suggestion might not be in Army suggestions as it is not NightW.. but I do recomend it. (Im only a sergeant, so dont want to step on Genaral Gabriels toes)
