@@proxactual not exactly. I have phantom limb pain. Gun blew up in my hand and blew my hand away. Can still feel the gun in that "hand" to this day and every day its the same sensation of the gun/explosive shock in my hand. It has gotten better over the years, well I say better, I have gotten used to the pain. But I can honestly say I have never gone through mirror therapy, as it was not gonna be helpful. Depending on the circumstances mirror therapy is not always an option, ands its also not really an option that actually gets thought about on a regular basis, since mirror therapy is a really case by case remedy. Mirror therapy can be almost instant, it can take time, it could never work, and even if it does work, there have been cases where the pain comes back over time. So no, he might not have been undergoing mirror therapy for many years.

@@flisko123 I don't remember the make/model of it as I was a kid, age 12, when it happened. All I remember is that it was a revolver. I've tried not thinking too hard of the actual events that transpired for so many years that thats all I can remember about the gun. This is all I remember about the accident, it was my uncles gun, we were out shooting in Missouri, we were shooting shotguns at first because my grandparents had a clay pigeon thrower. Once we ran out of clay pigeons, they pulled out the hand guns and such and set up targets down range. I had never shot a revolver before, so I was really excited... My guess, since my uncle owned a gun shop and everything, including a ammo reloading machine, is that I got a bad bullet. But other than that I try not to think about it much. Plus as a kid you don't really pay attention to brands and such of guns. To me all I knew was shotguns, rifles, pistols/revolvers. I knew the types of guns nothing really about makes/models.

WanderinWolf I mean.... if you mirrored your other hand setting down a revolver that might work. Literally trick your brain into putting the gun down. You might also try setting up a mirror box at a range and actually firing a revolver with your other hand before setting it down. Additionally, with people there to stop you, you might want to try a small dose of mushrooms or LSD beforehand, as they make your mind more open to suggestion. (Just ask the CIA) I’ve heard it works wonders for trauma patients.

The story of a guy being relieved of phantom pain, the fact that he was a Canadian helping with rescue missions when the Americans were pulling out of Vietnam, and how he lost his hand are all a real story. He was one of the trial patients in a study on this exact approach for treating phantom pain at UCSD. Amazing thing is that the speed at which it works was pretty close to what you see in this clip other than the fact that most people need to do the same clench-relax cycle a few times. It's also a regular regimen that he may have to repeat every day for a while, but slowly phase out over time.

I knew a girl who had lost her leg in a car accident, and her phantom limb had an itch that she literally couldn't scratch, so she scratched at her prosthetic until her fingernails bled. They tried mirror therapy and they did basically the same thing, and she ended up crying for hours over how the itch was finally gone, she wasn't going crazy anymore. The itch didn't come back thankfully, but she said she could still feel when she tried wiggling her toes or rolling her ankle. I can't even imagine what that's like~

I knew since it started happening that it was my tooth, but my dentist refused to pull it because he didn't have evidence anything was wrong. got a drs note and made a dentist pull it. Suprise Suprise. I was suffering from cracked tooth syndrome. A very tiny tiny crack that didn't pick up on imaging. it was so reliving.

I had a House-like doctor before, but it was more of ignoring me and kinda being snarky about it. If I continued to see him maybe it would have turned out well. Told the guy I had severe constipation since birth and that multiple meds do nothing. He prescribed me a med I've been on for 12 years and I quit it cause it didn't work well enough. All I wanted was answers and he told me I wasn't trying hard enough ._.

That form of therapy actually does work and can be that immediate. Though for some it takes more sessions. Tying him up and “forcing” him to do it added to the efficacy in his case but it’s a very rare technique!!

This has always been one of my favorite moments from the show. When he cryingly thanks him after years of pain, it's sad. What's even sadder is House's reaction/envy of the veteran being finally pain-free. Could you do S08E07 - Dead and Buried? The scene when the wife says, "I left because of his eyes. He had Drew's eyes." I always found that line so painful. Especially when their son's mysterious death finally had an answer, the mom didn't have to put up such a strong persona anymore, and was in tears saying to her ex-husband, "I miss him, too." Damn. I just realized how smart House is. I may be reading too much into this but before House pricks the dude with the needle to drug him he says “Hi, honey!” Which is definitely humorous but it also effectively speeds up the patient’s heart rate by scaring him which then helps pump the drug through his system faster. General anesthesia doesn't work like that in real life, either. There's a ton of things you need to know about someone's physiology in order to knock them safely unconscious with drugs: weight, metabolism, blood chemistry, potential allergies. All of this stuff has to be calculated in order to measure the correct dose of whatever combination of sedatives you will be employing. Getting any of this incorrect will result in the injection causing anything from mild drowsiness to instant death. This is why professional anesthesiologists have to go to school for so many years and earn so much fucking money.

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be holding onto the hand of someone you failed to save for over thirty years. He wasn’t just letting go of his pain, he was finally letting go of the worst moment of his life. There are people who say there aren’t any miracles anymore. To me the miracles of medicine, a man holding his heart in his hand, a premature baby living a full life, a wounded vet finally letting go, these are far more miraculous than any burning bush.

I love this scene. The acting, the comedy and seriousness of it. But what I love most is how poetic it is. The man is literally letting go of the pain. He held onto it both physically and emotionally. Then the bittersweetness of seeing House revel in the man's healing, wondering how it feels to be permanently pain free. He's dabbled in it before but only a taste here and there. But none of them came without consequence. With Cuddy giving the ketamine jump-starting his brain and resetting his pain receptors, the methadone etc. House is one of my all time favorite characters. I wish it was still going but they ended it in the best way possible. I wish I could remember what it was like to not be sick or in pain but seeing someone else's healing is beautiful. Even if it's just acting.

I remember reading the article where they first discovered this technique, where a guy constantly had a feeling of his missing limb clenched into a fist. You're 27 now. Think about when you're 67 or 77... you think that not being vaccinated will save you? What am I talking about? Of course it will. @@yoholup19 that is not accurate information. In the 2013 -2014 flu season the CDC reported that on the highest estimate there were only 456 deaths under the age of 18 from the flu. For context, there were an estimated 37,000. Thus it is not possible that 90% of deaths were in unvaccinated children, because deaths from all children only accounted for 1.27% of total deaths at the highest.
