Gained a lot more respect for Phil after this. I have to admit, when I was younger, I was a part of some of the fanbase who grew frustrated at Phil for being injured and being unavailable to play so often. But as I got older I stopped complaining and understood there's a real human being with emotions on the other side of the criticism. I'm really happy to hear how he seems to be doing a lot better mentally than during his playing days. He's lived out a career than 99.5% of people would dream of and that's an incredible achievement. I think the people that take the abuse or criticism too far, especially online, are the ones who are having the most doubts and insecurities about their own personal lives, so it's best to ignore them when you can. Good luck with the rest of your career Phil, once a red, always a red 🇾🇪

Massive respect to Phil for opening up like this. I think part of the problem is that the clubs are so secretive about the injuries that players have. I remember signing Phil Jones in FM10 or something. Beast of a player , captained my side to multiple leagues and Champion Leagues. Retired at the club too.

It was bittersweet for you Phil. I still remember being so excited for the way you were playing at 19, SAF said you were going to be the best. I thought it was too early, but I did believe you were going to be one of the best Premier League defenders. Sad to see it didn't pan out, but I would give so much to have the career you had. Best of luck in whatever you do next

Always gave 100% on the pitch, was a decent footballer too, the mind is a powerful tool, but also so destructive. Even with all the injury problems Phil has won in life, to even become a professional footballer is such a rare achievement 😊

Top top man. Excellent player who had a decent career but for injuries could have been the very best. Fair play on your honesty and you’re gonna make a great manager someday.

People will say and write what they like but when all is said and done, this guy made it to a level that 99.99% of us could only ever dream of - not to mention winning the PL with Manchester United. The core support will remember him fondly. Well done and thanks Phil, always a red. 🔴⚪️⚫️

As a United fan that saw Phil Jones signed for the club when I was a kid up till seeing him retire when I'm now 26, I feel so sorry for Phil to be very unlucky with injuries and not able to reach his full potential. Now that he's in the coaching setup, I sincerely hope this new path of football will be a success for him and gets to achieve what he couldn't as a player.

Hopefully Phil tou see this. You were a champ at United and I wish you all the best in your next steps of your career

I really hope he can become a great coach. He gave everything, every time he stepped on the pitch. If he played for any other club no one would have cared about his injurys but because its united he got so much stick. Hes a top bloke.

He seems to be a very decent guy. He was extremely unlucky with injuries. But to be honest he should have been let go a long time ago. Why he was given a new 4 year contract in 2019 with that injury history I will never know. In his 12 seasons at United he was injured for 1,216 days according to transfermarkt. That's over 3 years! In total he missed 264 games through injuries. In his last 4 seasons he played 13 games across all competitions. That's just an insane injury history

Fair play Phil. Clearly a really good guy. Injuries screwed his career but did all he could. Best of luck in the future
