So amazing that many have only recently heard of/heard about Phil Ochs. When we 'all' learned to play guitar at summer camp in the late 60s/early 70s, one of the main teaching pieces was "Changes". He was all over WBAI, etc., and came more into public view as the 70s progressed. Scott Muni and Pete Fornetale played him on WNEW-FM in New York back then. Rest In Peace.

Phil has become the only music i listen in 2021 , i discovered him thanks to Neil Young, I´m sure why anyone else mentioned him in the past. Cuz he is UNBELIEVABLE.

I'm fortunate to have learned about him from Sean Penn in the '80's. Greatest American songwriter, period.

Welcome to the 1960s. Phil was the best and, who knew him, miss him still. Listen to here's to the land of mispi, now alabama. If you want your heart broken try changes, if you listen with your gf, she will cry and jump on you. Also listen to hot tuna, greatest band, blues.

I believe the correct call letters are WBAI Pacifica Radio for New York and the show he guest-appeared on was most likely "Radio Unnameable" hosted by the immortal midnight voice of the sixties counterculture, Bob Fass.

Phil Ochs is so good that I had to learn how to play the first two songs Id heard from him. I was so absorbed in learning ‘I Aint Marchin Anymore’ and ‘No More Songs’ that I forgot to listen to the rest of his music. Its been six years since, and now I have the patience of mind necessary to listen to other songs. They’re all so good. And Im really feeling what he says at the beginning of this recording, about how we always to return to what we love to tell it how we’ve grown. Im here again for Phil Ochs music because I love these songs.

Indeed Radio Unameable WBAI. I remember staying up all night, many nights listening to Bob Fass.. but THIS night was the best of the best. If Wb Yeats read his poetry to me I would be in love. At that time I was 16. I had an astounding Sony reel to reel tape recorder that I switched on and recorded this on on that WBAI night. Later on in found its way to cassettes., later found it'd way to CD. This is very clear. Perhaps an air check. A true treasure that has blessed me all my life.

Rating these songs on 1 to 10 scale. At least 25 of Phils songs are great and 9 or 10. But not these. White boots - 9/ Changes - 10/ crucifixion - 5/ Joe Hill - 3. very boring/city boy - 3 / ths is not from 1965, This has got to be much later or Phil was drunk or stoned. Two other Phil songs that are better than the bad songs :kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGGyaauoq5h5bck Tape from California. Rating 10 Jazzy cool psychedelic sound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/in6whpaCeM-hipo Flower Lady rate 10. exponential poignancy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fl6zlWqXr96ne80 That was the President. Best tribute song to Kennedy. 9 Here's a memory to share, here's a memory to fade.

He said it was a new song and he forgot some words. I don’t think he made up lyrics on the spot. He probably had different sentences while writing abs honing this amazing song. And a couple of those popped into his head. I like when he sings “death of beauty….”

The concert is probably from 1966, not 1965. That's the year he wrote "Crucifixion" and he says at one point (apologizing for forgetting the lyrics) that "it's a new song."

I truly think that a percentage of Dylan just got to him. Given his mental difficulties in life it wouldn't be a surprise to me if he told a counselor somewhere he obsessed just a bit too much about this guy, and couldn't find a way to let it go. Dylan probably did that to more than a few folks during that time. Even today, folks seem to obsess about him. It's just one small part of all the things that probably bothered Phil to the extent he would consider exiting the world the way he did.
