As an American fan (Baltimore, Maryland), I give you and some of the other podcast guys credit for why you didn’t see more moaning about the draw. You made us aware of what to expect, and with those set expectations, at least I felt properly prepared heading into the season

I agree Revan looks like a brilliant signing, so fast and energetic. He was still jumping up to high 5 fans on the way off the pitch full time.

And he's flipped the script on those of us who saw the way he was pushed up the field for the Sheffield Utd game (which may have been gaffer's orders) and were worried he was a pure winger who would have a learning curve at wingback, and after that game he's established that he can already play a proper flex wing back position.

Happy to try and shed some more light on Reading for you guys if you want as a season ticket holder and member of the supporter's trust board - will be up at the game on Saturday too. Our number 9 is just generally referred to as Kelvin E. but affectionately known as Wifi because "he's got a name like a wifi password". From mid-November onwards, we were basically in playoff form - we were just that far adrift due to all the troubles etc before that.

Current squad is really solid and competitive for this level. I think the quality of the front 2 is what may ultimately stop us being genuine promotion contenders but a cheeky playoff flirt is possible. Next summer I think Marriott, Dalby, Palmer, Waters and Fletcher are out of contract so if not this window, it'll certainly be the focus of the next 2-3

We didn’t look solid Sunday was because we had cheap giveaways at midfield. Cannon was the most guilty more worried about getting a call then passing the ball. Eogan had an off day. It’ll look different when scarr and Rathbone starts Saturday.

A well fought tie. It was clear that they have a ways to go on offense. There were many times they were in front of the Bolton goal and the player with the ball had no help. He had no passing options or couldn’t cross the ball to someone within the box. If they fix this in the tight games they will get a lot more quality chances.

As a new fan 🇨🇦of only 3 seasons, I appreciate the background to all that is going on, on the field. Question: Do players complain to the gaffer or others if they feel they aren’t getting the playing time that they feel they deserve? Thanks for the education.

Talking of allocated seats I think now we're back in the big time it needs to be a thing again. At Sheff and Bolton I felt quite territorial about it when I thought someone's might try and muscle in. Thoughts?
@mikehughescq3 ай бұрын
Sadly it’s majority rule and we’re going to find out the hard way if we progress further that it won’t wash. I’ve been in away ends with several clubs supported by mates and, without fail, the overwhelming majority sit, or stand (Spurs and others) in allocated seats. If anything kicks off (as it threatened to do at Coventry for example several times) then if the stewards find you weren’t even in your allocated seat you’re gone. Ejected instantly. Club will eventually issue comms. on this. Usual culprits will moan but history tells us they’re going to be on the losing side. The other aspect of this which doesn’t get addressed, and will need to be, is that Wrexham fans are now consistently disregarding fans with access needs. At away games the number of fans who stand in front of wheelchair users for 90 minutes is shocking. The same fans also think standing alongside is perfectly okay. This wholly disregards that’s it’s rarely safe for a chair user to wheel forward to see corners etc. and by standing alongside you are also blocking what was supposed to be an accessible view. This is now getting worse week on week as fans at away games are seeing gaps in rows designated for fans with access needs and occupying them en masse despite having allocated seating elsewhere. These fans are often the ones who want to stand for 90; sing; abuse; gesture etc. They are often sufficiently drunk or excited that they will crash into people next to them when jumping about and not even notice. It makes the away experience nothing but unpleasant and often dangerous. If you’re in accessible seating because you’re prone to bone fractures for example then the last thing you need is four lads from Rhos wholly disregarding your space. At Sheffield United the front rows in the corner were for those with access needs. Family of four taking their little girl to her first match saw seats free and decided that’s what they want. She stands on and off the advertising hoardings for the whole game with little interest in events and manages to block the view for five people with access needs. It’s about time the club stepped in on this and either asked the away club to police the area (as Bradford did brilliantly last season for example) or did it themselves. Happy to name names here. One of the occasional guests on this podcast stood having a nice chat to his mates during the Accrington game last season. Wholly oblivious to the fact they were blocking the views of several well known wheel chair users. Try and imagine the difficulty those users have getting to those games and then our own fans treat them like sh!t and don’t even notice they’re there.

I was really enjoying that up until the 36th minute :) How very dare you. Can we agree that, if I buy you a coffee, Tim can’t have any? :) On a more serious note I am impressed you read the comments and that Tim checked out what I was saying about Marriott’s runs and saw what I saw. It’s very odd. Excellent podcast and just the right length. Surprised a little that it didn’t have a tad more on the Sheffield United match, which was interesting for all sorts of reasons. Brunt was all over the place whilst Evans didn’t look up to this level any more. Boyle needs body position training from Big Sam. Repeatedly adopted exactly the inept side on stance he had which got him red carded at Newport. Repeatedly left for dead in Sheffield and lucky he didn’t make contact with one sliding lunge. Would have been a straight red. All he actually needed to do was stand up and manoeuvre the guy. Increasingly looks like your mate who’s never played football before but who gets asked to make up the numbers. We also clearly have no-one currently at the club capable of delivering a consistent quality corner or set piece. Getting very bored over 3 matches now seeing corner kicks not clear the first man or clearing everyone and leaving our far post man stretching aimlessly backwards to make contact. Lee, O’Connor and McClean all guilty. We need different players to have a go and it needs to be much better. Enjoyed yesterday from start to end although my experiences trying to get ADC radio sets at Bramhall Lane and the Toughsheet for commentary were shambolic. Made me appreciate the WAFC ADC offer. “Only” 5 further things for me this time around: 1 - Max largely had Charles in his pocket. That’s no mean feat and I think it’s a tad harsh highlighting that we don’t talk about him because the mistakes have gone. We should be talking about him because at 22 he’s stepped up to L1 like he was born to it. Flawless against Wycombe and Bolton. 2 - I thought O’Connor got away with murder at left back last season given his lack of pace and inexplicable hoof balls given his cultured passing when playing as an attacking midfielder. This season we seem determined not to talk about it but there’s problem brewing. He lacks the pace for this division and both Wycombe and Bolton targeted him very effectively. That’s not going to go away. We need to look at better options for left back. O’Connell also lacks pace but he reads the game way better than O’Connor so compensates for the lack with tactical astuteness. We cannot afford two slow players at the back unless both read the game. Only one does. Sooner or later this catches up with us. 3 - Davies. Yes it was a decent free kick but it very much looked like Luke Young, of all people, was the lone non jumper in the wall and the cause of the goal. If you were a Cheltenham fan you’d be pretty much unimpressed when you saw them hug at the end. It really wasn’t a good look. 4 - Santos for Bolton. Disagree with Andrew on this. As Bolton is just 5 miles down the road for us my offspring is well clued up on them and has seen them several times in the last few years. Suggested Santos was a weak point. He was okay in the air given who he was up against. On the floor he was like Bambi on ice. A couple of good blocks but generally all over the place. As the game opened up we clearly targeted him. 5 - Some big credit for Parky required. Tactical masterclass. Simple things done really well. Thought Bolton were a level above in terms of skill; pace and speed of thought but we’d been set up to keep it tight. I think Parky understood we’d get few chances - our first shot on target was around the 50 minute mark - but he also correctly figured that Bolton would feel obliged to go for the win and the game would open. Yes Arthur then made the save of the match but it’s not hard to argue we had a similar number of chances to them in the last 20 minutes and a fully fit Mullin perhaps takes one of those. I don’t see us as top 2; not even play offs, but, barring some absolute disaster we’re going to be just fine. It’s a lovely feeling.

Not sure how parky brings in two strikers. No one is going to want to loan a player if all they do is sit on the bench and make cameos. No one is going to want to sign unless they have get playing time, so you'd have to lie to one, and either cast doubt on teams willing to loan (will our player play) and at least give them second thoughts on handing us another, or you have another someone on decent wages on the bench. At the end of the day, its a position that will be difficult to raise the ceiling on without paying decent money and benching fan favourites.

Seb Revan doesn’t count to the squad tally as he’s exempt as he falls into the 21 and under rule. Looking at the current squad we’ve got 21 players that need registration, I don’t think Bickerstaff, Waters and probably Dalby will make the cut if we can get a couple of strikers in. If we can get an U21 striker it will add even more depth to the squad.
@@LagerWeStand I think the last 3 will go on loan and we’ll get an under 21 prodigy and a senior striker duo if we beet the deadline. We may well get a free agent like we did with Fletcher but obviously Parky will need to leave a hole for him to drop into. I may be wrong but I think we’ve got till the end of September to name the final squad.
