Thanks for the kind words - I might update this intro as there are a couple things I have worked out that are pretty significant to playing this even closer to the way Jimi did... I'm running the Marshall & the Dual Showman together - just like Hendrix did...Thanks again..PEACE! PW

Love your lessons. Little wing i know since way back. Had to learn it before my father buying me my own guitar. 14 at the time but i worked part time at a oldschool guitarshop with lots of bluesmen having coffee and what not.. Learned it, got my strat went on playing professionally and now i'm 32. Please keep posting those lessons!! Btw.. Never understood maple strats (own three post CBS). Telecasters are great for maple. Why do you play a -72 reissue? Blackmore fan? Peace!

Thanks YARBLES! Yeah well, I'm gonna do THREE full days of Jimi at my guitar seminar this August 29th - 31st here in Santa Monica, CA... I will explain how to look at this and many other pieces - All played with the right techniques to help your playing and understanding of the guitar. Good eye (and EAR!!)... The guitar is a 68' reissue (not a Custom Shop) and yes, the pickups are the 69' Custom Shop pickups..! Thanks Again.. PEACE! PW

Hey Phil,I've seen a lot of people playing this song ( note for note ) & You ARE Playing it Note for Note.But the Best Part is,Your Breaking it Down Like it Should be & I want to Thank You for That.I also seen where you said you were using a Old Marshall & Fender Dual Showman.I'm assuming your using a a/b switch? To go back in forth? Anyway's GOOD Lesson & Yes. I Subscribed. :-) ♫

I'm using the real deal here....The amps are a 1969 100W. Marshall w/ a 4x12 cab. and a 1968 Fender Dual Showman amp - it is running through a 2x15 JBL cab...This is pretty much the gear Jimi used live and in the studio...So if your trying to get the sound that Hendrix had, it is a good idea to get amps that are close to what he actually used...and these are about as close as you can get.

Yes, you can do whatever you would like...I personally like to have all my pickups the same that way it sounds as balanced & matched as possible - in whatever position I'm in...I hope that helps..

Thanks for the kind words...It takes a little more time to get used to using your thumb on your fretting hand...but it really gives you more control and it is the way Jimi did this.. As far as fixing the action on your guitar - I would try to take your guitar in to a guitar shop in your area..Hopefully you live near a big city where you can find a qualified guitar tech..If not your gonna have trouble dealing with possible truss rod, bridge saddles (intonation), nut height adjustments etc..

Hi Killa - Well, I'm not using any 'effects' on this video...However, Jimi ran his guitar through a leslie (a rotating speaker) for the "underwater" type of sound that comes in about 20 secs. into the intro...I hope that helps...

@FukeU1248 - Thanks - Yeah, I personal like the bright tone of a maple neck strats - Jimi did some of his best work playing em' (Band of Gypsys, Woodstock & many more shows..) - The guitar i'm playing is a 1968 reissue - (not 72) and yes I do like Blackmore's work...!
@PWGWORKSHOP
@PWGWORKSHOP 15 жыл бұрын
It changes everything...The 'key' of the song has a lot to do with how it feels in the end to the listener... Jimi recorded his classic version of "Machine Gun" in the key of 'D minor' - and to get the right feel he tuned his guitar down 1 whole step...So yes - to the feel of the guitar to the mood of the song... It is like a painter picking another deeper shade of color to make the painting more vibrant....to put across the feeling or idea in a way that works to great effect for them...

@Myleso - This is not a piece of music that a 'beginner' should be working on, I highly recommend finding a good teacher and learning your basics from the ground up. If you stay focused and are consistently practicing, taking lessons from the right teacher will reward you... I think most Hendrix is not exactly 'easy', but this is one piece (Little Wing) really stands out as a true Hendrix masterpiece - This is why I did not change the key (I played it tuned down a half-step like Jimi did.)

Oh yeah, there is a lot to it and Jimi absolutely knew what he was doing! I think it was purely the music he was focused on, naturally his technique was truly awesome, but really only there to put across his music...like all great artist, he never did sacrifice his music for anything. I think Jimi 'worked it out' because he was a truly inspired artist - it was all about his love of music... PEACE!

That's quite awesome. I wonder though if Hendrix would have applied the same fingering pattern. I guess 90% if not maybe 100% correct. What do you think Phil?
@frabber321
@frabber321 15 жыл бұрын
you definitely got the dynamics and musicality of the studio version down and you let those notes ring through which should, others don't do that. I think attending those classes of yours would be very usefull, pity I am way over here in amsterdam... Cheers though.

Thanks Luis, Honestly, It is more about how you play this then what your equipment is and the settings you use etc...That said, Having the right gear does help...I would say it more like the icing-on-the-cake... The best advice I can give you is to really work on your playing (using the best technique) and maybe if your trying to master this Jimi stuff, It may be time to get a Fender Strat too...!!! Your on the right path with a good tube amp. P E A C E ~

Thanks, I really did not want to spend a lot of time on the parts that have been covered so many, many times before. I did slow down for the open 'G' that most people have missed before. I also was very careful to explain the final 'D' chord - that, again most people have missed. This easily could have been a 25 minute video if I slowly explained every section...Keep workin' at it - Yes, it does take some time to get - use all the right technique...including use of your thumb... Yeah well, I would say It is close to how Jimi fingered it...but there is no way to know exactly how close. To me, the bigger picture is how musical and dynamic it is when you play it...I was a little camera shy when this was filmed and it could have been better...I do however think you get how it was basically done.
