Hi 👋, Phil, That is definitely a gorgeous piece of Art, well worth the time and effort, I think I can see a face in the bowl, bear 🐻, a with a white tongue sticking out, 😛, 😂, great work, Phil, I still have a lot of work to do on my work shop, mainly to insulate the roof, and need to run some cables for lighting, And I have some leftover floor paint my workshop back in the UK from years ago, I’m going to get the floor at least another coat, then I’m going to get some white floor paint to go over the top, as it is made the room very dark, And I have been Wrench this week, it the process of changing final drive belt, I need to get out as I have been locked in for 4/5 years, Keep up the great work, stay safe, France.

Good Day, Phil, I have just started watching 👀, it looks like someone is jumping for joy and waving their arms, just when you stopped turning the bottom there is a big crack in the bottom which is dark, around the nine minute 24 to 3 second bracket just catching the right area. It looks like a young child or somebody running and jumping for joy, 😂, and carry on watching, it’s going to be very very,

Nicely done Phil! I’m glad to hear that you prefer the natural properties that might cause a bowl to remain thick. I have found that truth in some of my turnings too, but am a little sheepish that I didn’t thin the bowl out further. This piece is a showcase for natural bowls everywhere. Thanks so much!
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop 8 ай бұрын
Cool, thanks Karen! 😃 I do like bowls that are a little chunky. They have some heft that give a feeling of value, to me. On the other hand, I usually try to make them as thin as the characteristics of the wood will allow. Luckily for me, I like weird wood so they often have thick sides because otherwise, they would have holes in them!

I’d been watching the salamander all through the video, and was happy to hear you mention it while showing the finished bowl. I’ve actually heard a few people say they “suffer” from pareidolia, but I take a bit of pride in raising mine to an art form unto itself. So you can take my word for it: yes, there are several human and animal figures, most notably a crouching lion on the back side. Thank you for another great video.

Maple is beautiful wood. Nature sometimes makes it even more beautiful with tiger stripes or birds eye...but at the top of that list is the burl. It takes a true master to expose what might otherwise have been wasted or burned. Your patience and craftsmanship and eye for beauty have rewarded us all with something truly outstanding. THANK YOU KERRY! I find it hard to part with any of my burl chunks, even for Phil!! Phil, Where are you going to put that monster? If you cannot find room for it, you know Cindy would be happy to bring it over here! 🤣🤣🤣 Guessing it will be on the kitchen/dining table, replacing a lesser loved bowl at least for a while. Time to build some new shelves??

Massive describes it very well Phil. I was going to finish my coffee and head out to my lathe but now I need to rest after watching you work so hard. But the hard work was well worth the effort. I did see a number of faces and animals but my head was spinning from watching all the cool features I lost them. But they are there...really LOL The finish is perfect for the piece as it always is. Great choices all the way through this fun video to watch. Take care and rest up my friend, Gary

My wife and I sat on the porch and drank our morning coffees watching that beautiful burl turn into a bowl. At one point my wife commented that you had not yet said mask and faceshield on. She said i think Phil needs a coffee :) Shortly thereafter you said it and then you said you needed a coffee 😅. We enjoy this time with you and each other before we head off in different directions to do our own things. Thank you Phil. God bless you.

Phil, that burl made a beautiful bowl! I can't see any side that is my favorite, that being the case my vote for the front side is the one directly opposite the back side. There is no way to be wrong with that approach. I hope you didn't get too tuckered out, I can't imagine the bumpin' and thumpin' you had to endure, but the results are truly one of a kind. Blessings to you Phil, take care. Rick
