Wow! The shape is perfect -- kind of like a volcano from the side views. The sheen is ideal -- not too much shiny-shiny to detract away from the colors and grain. The chatoyance is infinitely awe-inspiring -- love those rays inside the bowl. This is more gem-cutting than wood turning. Beautiful, all around.

Nicely done Phil! I’m glad to hear that you prefer the natural properties that might cause a bowl to remain thick. I have found that truth in some of my turnings too, but am a little sheepish that I didn’t thin the bowl out further. This piece is a showcase for natural bowls everywhere. Thanks so much!
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop5 ай бұрын
Cool, thanks Karen! 😃 I do like bowls that are a little chunky. They have some heft that give a feeling of value, to me. On the other hand, I usually try to make them as thin as the characteristics of the wood will allow. Luckily for me, I like weird wood so they often have thick sides because otherwise, they would have holes in them!

Maple is beautiful wood. Nature sometimes makes it even more beautiful with tiger stripes or birds eye...but at the top of that list is the burl.
