I once commented on Marilyn's Facebook that I wish she'd sing the song live with Phil and here's her reply: "From your lips to God's ears...I would LOVE to finally sing Separate Lives with Phil live on stage. We sang our parts separately for the recording. Life is full of miracles, maybe that will be one of them. Thanks!"

It's lovely but so sad ! For duets I really like Kenny Rodgers and Dolly singing Islands In The Stream. And No More Tears, Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer. Not forgetting Cher and Meatloaf Dead Ringer For Love. Last but not least the Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta duets from Grease. Showing my age just abit haha.

In 1985, my heart was broken by my first true love and I played this song endlessly, over and over, wallowing in the pain, like a typical teenager. Didn’t know that there was any other way to grieve. To this day, when I hear it, or even think of it, my heart aches.

I disagree. The late Burt Bacharach, who co-wrote Phil's song "Two Hearts", was still co-writing great songs in his 90s. He co-wrote the great love song "Always" with Richard Marx, which Marx sang on Marx's album Songwriter. Bob Seger's "I Knew You When" that came out in 2017, but according to Wikipedia, was written by Bob back in 1997. The lyric video makes it clear that it was recorded as a tribute to Glenn Frey. It features drawings of Bob Seger over the years and also shows a drawing of Glenn and Bob standing next to each other multiple times. There is Dennis DeYoung's duet with Julian Lennon on the song "To the Good Old Days". The song "Unfinished Heart" by Pride of Lions. Perfect Plan's song "In and Out of Love". Seventh Wonder's song "Elegy". Kamelot's song "Stories Unheard". Also, my favorite Phil Collins song is his version of "Great Spirits" from the Brother Bear soundtrack (2003 - it was a Best Buy exclusive bonus track). The lyrics of his version are different from the Tina Turner version featured in the movie. Phil wrote the song. An obscure singer that I like, Karine Hannah, covered Phil's song "Take Me Home" and Gabriel's song "In Your Eyes" in the past year. A young woman, Alyona Yarushina, who sings covers of a lot of 70s and 80s songs just did a cover of Journey's song "Faithfully". It's a beautiful cover. She has a very powerful singing voice. She can sing everything from Whitney to opera to Led Zeppelin.

I’m 63 , and this song is relevant again. I won’t ever give up on love and finding it. While it was a thousand times harder when I first heard and learned the lyrics as a younger person, we can heal. Love is everywhere , sometimes takes a lifetime to find it. Love with everything you have.............

The 1980's was a decade of extremely talented creators of fantastic music. To create something so moving takes soul, perspective and a depth of heart. The 80's was that for me. Rock, Pop, Metal, Country it was one big cascade of art and my life growing up.

[Verse 1] You called me from the room in your hotel All full of romance for someone that you met And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon And that you miss me sometimes when you're alone in your room Do i feel lonely too? [Chorus] You have no right to ask me how i feel You have no right to speak to me so kind I can't go on just holding on to time Now that we're living separate lives [Verse 2] Well i held on to let you go And if you lost your love for me, well you never let it show There was no way to compromise So now we're living (living) Separate lives [Bridge] Ooh, it's so typical, love leads to isolation So you build that wall (build that wall) Yes, you build that wall (build that wall) And you make it stronger [Chorus]

I can't deal with this song. It's so heartbreakingly beautiful. Like real life. But at least art can soothe. I highly recommend anyone to listen to the live version from his 1990 tour. On the CD "serious hits...Live!". On a particularly tough day, I grabbed a cd from my mum's collection and took it to my car (yeah old car lol). It helped me through a bad break-up a couple of years ago. I healed from that , largely thanks to crying out (on my drives) to this cd/song. I now moved away from my family and did not pack the cd but I found it on Spotify. Having a rough patch with my current partner and now listening again. Highly recommend listening to it without shuffle... loud. Love hurts.. good luck everyone

Personally I think that live version you’re talking about doesn’t sound half as good as this version. Whoever was singing with Phil in that live version didn’t sing it nearly as well as Marilyn Martin. Marilyn’s voice just gives goosebumps when she hits those high notes and draws them out the way she does. So much more emotion you can just feel it. Just my opinion tho.
