This was a fun climb. The slope eases up a fair bit in the last mile, so you can recuperate a tad before the final hill sprint. Loved blasting that hill with the crowd on it. I ran a mtb cassette with a 34 tooth granny gear. Kept my 39x53 up front. The biggest mistake people make is they don't pace themselves. I was slow on the bottom compared to others, but must have passed 150 after 10 minutes in.

I lived in NH for nearly a year way back. Loved it. I spent a lot of time exploring those mountains with friends, including snow skiing. Absolutely beautiful. LA comedy scene tip (from an expert who has worked with comics in those LA clubs since 1998): Comedy Store is a bit toxic. I recommend checking out the other venues (Laugh Factory, Improv) where you'll find the staff, comics and audiences less toxic. Don't be wowed by the "edgy," Satin is God black wall interior of the Comedy Store.

All I know is that if I were in your wake up that climb, I'd be thinking I hate cycling, I hate climbing and I'm not really sure about people who love cookies. But I'd congratulate you, Phil, two hours later at the top. And congrats now, Phil, that was quite a ride, outstanding and no shame in not getting the all-time whatever. All that counts is today and for now, you are the king of that mountain and it is good to be king.

I wonder how 360 watts for 52mins up this climb compares to FTP today and also to all-time form?... Even though this is a really steep climb, I guess a strong tail wind to back up those watts might have given Phil a new 49mins record.

Well, the Thai KOM Challenge is equally brutal and a few pros and ex-pros have ridden it. Last year Vincenzo Nibali rode it for training and finished first. Cadel Evans also rode it and did well. Not sure if Phil has ridden that one either. Not a cheap/easy trip to do on a whim though.
