Marcus Aurelius - How To Be Mindful (Stoicism)
In this video, we will be talking about how to be mindful from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius was the emperor of Rome from 161 to 180 AD and is considered as the last of the Five Good Emperors. Widely referred to as a philanthropic ‘philosopher-king’, Marcus throughout his life worked to embody the philosophy of Stoicism. Stoicism helped him to be constantly mindful of his thoughts and actions. During his rule, Aurelius constructed a series of autobiographical writings known as the Meditations. In his meditations, he spends a great deal of time emphasizing the value of mindfulness and which is why in this video we bring you 5 ways we could learn to be more mindful of our thoughts and actions from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius.
So here are 5 ways we could learn to be mindful of our thoughts and actions from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius -
01. Keep your focus on the present
02, Always choose to be your best self
03. Always do the right thing
04.Accept and love your life through good times and bad
05.Change your thoughts to change your life
I hope you enjoyed watching how to be mindful of our thoughts and actions from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius and find them helpful in your life.
Even though Marcus Aurelius wrote it 2,000 years ago - his insights on
Stoicism still carry strong weight today. Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

Marcus's wisdom truly has made me a better man. I think more logically, care less about things outside my control and focus on what matters. The stoic philosophy is incredibly practical and very beneficial when you put it into practice

This is a very good lecture about how to apply mindfulness in everyday life and it can help all of us in difficult situations. Actually it has just helped me now, because today I was feeling depressed due to the Covid shutdown and isolation. I never really feel depressed, but today was different, I felt emotionally and physically weak as if I would become sick. After sleeping for an hour, by chance I came across this very good lecture and it opened my eyes. Now I feel so much better. When emotions overwhelm you it's improtant to let them out, but as soon as you are mindful and observe your thoughts and feelings you can control them and stop the process. This is what I just did and now I have regained my power. Thank you so much for this really good video! 🙏

One way to be more mindful is to check in with your emotions, and take note of how you feel when you're at work. Get in the habit of checking in with yourself. You may be stressed out during the day without even being aware of it. Be mindful, and pay attention to signs of tension

I choose happiness every day in a time of personal danger and anxiety. I try to be grateful for every single irreplaceable moment of happiness, which at the moment is just reading a good book, spending time with my cat, winter sunshine, feeding the birds in the park, going for a walk. The big things in my life, my dreams have all been destroyed so for now just being healthy and being able to walk are something to be celebrated. I am holding my head high and choosing to smile in front of toxic, miserable and corrupt people that tried to make my life almost unbearable. The older I get, the more I am mindful that this life is all we have so however unhappy, we might as well make the most of it.

I'm coming from the lessons of buddha video and it's amazing to hear both greco-roman and indian philosophers coming to near identical conclusions almost certainly independently and at very different times in very different contexts. It points to the possibility of an underlying truth that may transcend culture and society.

One life tip to ease your way forward didn’t make the list but it may have been for a good reason: this episode focused on mindfulness. No matter, here it is: find ways to turn your weaknesses into strengths. A blind man would make a hopeless sniper but could excel at a listening post. And so on.

"I will never find love" -> "I deserve love" I hardly think this is something a stoic would say. “Remember to conduct yourself in life as if at a banquet. As something being passed around comes to you, reach out your hand and take a moderate helping. Does it pass you by? Don’t stop it. It hasn’t yet come? Don’t burn in desire for it, but wait until it arrives in front of you. Act this way with children, a spouse, toward position, with wealth - one day it will make you worthy of a banquet with the gods.” -Epictetus

Great advice but its not when we have emotions that subconsciously arise to the surface resulting from suppressed emotions that manifested in the body in pain or mental illness or anxiety..we have to work on that too and then be able to apply these great techniques in our life.

How about "mind your own business" take responsibility for your own choices and actions. Do not worry about those you do not know do not take what is not yours, do not let others take advantage of you or yours, give respect when it is due, respect yourself. It is not over till you stop trying but know when you have lost and it is time to let go and maybe start over. You make you word valuable "vow's should be rare" but highly honored. Death is waiting for us all so do not fear it live till you can't.

How does thinking of all things the other person went through etc. And give them slack... Doesn't seem like rhat is being realistic, then u can't accept things ad they are if I'm making things up n not accepting unpleasant things. A friend said twice she was coming for a holiday, then she decided she wasn't going to buy a house here. Yescthere were other reasons she gave, I considered it a lie. She never rebooked the visit. I would not be in reality if I didn'taccept it just didn'tmean that much to her as to me. I needed to realize that and accept it. It did hurt. If it hadn't happened I wouldn't have found this out. Still sad but accepting it.
