Phoebe Snow had abilities to play tricks with her voice I've never heard from anyone else. Also notice how much the tone of her voice sounds like a saxophone, how in this song the two instruments blend so gorgeously.

I have always thought of Phoebe Snow as the female equivalent of Aaron Neville. Her tone quality and vibrato are magnificent!

Phoebe's voice is so beautiful, with a bluesy growl and had a range of 4 octaves. "Poetry Man" was her biggest hit. This song is so beautiful with an amazing orchestral backing that parallels Phoebe's one of a kind voice. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Michael. 👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Her popular songs aren't a true reflection of the true soul of her music and lyrics. Everyone should become intimate with Phoebe 😉 Janis Ian is another that deserves a musical resurrection

One of the very first jazz vocals I could really relate to... & your reaction feels authentic. Lyrically it's so poetic. The jazzy sax solo is beyond sexy. But it's almost Shakespearean, the sad message of this song & how it resonates all these years later. I miss her.

What a brilliant singer songwriter. Jazz musicians loved working with her. On this track you have Ellington era great Teddy Wilson ( piano) and Zoot Sims ( sax) .

Harry leave it to you to review and react to one of my favorites off One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite singers reacted by one of my favorite reactors! lol I was introduced to Phoebe in the late 70s early 80s by my older brother turned me on to her. I then turned my wife onto her and my son on a trip to Florida he was stuck in the car and forced to listen to that album over and over from the drive from New York to Florida! Lol She left music to take care of her daughter who had many health problems and wound up coming back in the 2000s my wife and I went to see her At the Paramont theater on Long Island New York she died shortly after that it was so sad when I heard the news she’s one of the great voices I’ve ever heard thanks for checking her out❤

I first heard Phoebe Snow late one night listening to WTSR, The College of New Jersey radio station. I immediately fell in love with her voice. The very next day, I bought her album “Never Letting Go”, which would make it the late 70’s. At that time I didn’t realize she was the “Poetry Man” singer. A bit later, I was getting to know a new boyfriend and, like we did back then, we talked about our favorite musical artists and I mentioned Phoebe. He wasn’t familiar, but without my knowledge, he heard she was going to be at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and surprised me with 5th row tickets! So many years and many, many concerts later, it is still one of the best I’ve ever seen. Over the years I’ve bought more of her albums and went on to replaced them with CDs. It’s heartbreaking to me that most people only know her as the Poetry Man singer. Phoebe’s collection is vast, incorporating many musical genres and includes collaborations with other great artists, such as Paul Simon, Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne. I miss her, may she RIP.

Phoebe sang a duet with Paul Simons' song 'Gone at Last', its got a great gospel vibe and was from his 1975 album Still Crazy after all these years. Its another great vocal from Phoebe.

This was from Phoebe's very first album. I do recall Harpo's Blues getting radio airplay, college stations mostly, and adult contemporary stations in LA. For the record Phoebe's background includes folk, jazz, blues and black gospel music. Great examples, her duet with Paul Simon, Gone At Last. Her second album is even more jazz oriented. Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe shared a mutual admiration for each passion for different musical styles. They performed a folk duet, "Married Men", by the Roches on Saturday Night Live which is exquisite vocal performance. And her version of Etta James' "At Last" showcases Phoebe's full vocal power and 5 octave range!

I'll always stop what I'm doing and listen to Phoebe Snow singing "Harpo's Blues". I remember that Randy Crawford also started in the 1970's with "Street Life" by The (Jazz) Crusaders. I hope you discover Randy Crawford for yourself, Harri.
