Thank you for cautioning viewers to stay within the recommended FPS ammo rating of 1050 to 1150. Anyone who owns this pistol and wants it to last and last and last SHOULD stick with the recommendation of the manufacturer. Well explained and well presented. Music is distracting (sorry).

I've fired high velocity ammo through many of these pistols. Only on one did the frame crack, but on my lastest functioning pistol, nothing ever went bust. Had I known the must do adjustments (filing, getting new spring and such from mcarbo) I wouldn't doubt even without proper maintenance, it would be functioning today. If one is to use high velocity I recommend to add a weld strip to the outside bottom part of the frame to insure no cracking; reinforcement. Then also file the firing pin not at the ends, but the corners that are what keep the front and back ends from sticking out, helps insure they strike the rims on cartridges, even those known to be of poor Remington thunderbolt quality. Just make sure file the area on the barrel where the pin dry fire strike is to insure the firing pin doesn't keep suffering any damage from dry firing. Over all it is a great project pistol and plinker. You can get great groupings from far distances. I recommend to also get the deluxe kit, like literally just go for it to have everything at once rather than to spend so much separately.

That trick just saved me another spring didn’t think of that

I use the barrel to compress the spring as well except I keep it upright and have it pointing at the hammer. Fits flush like normal and don't have to worry about scratching the top of the barrel

Buy the M*Carbo spring kits for it and it will do wonders for not only the performance but make the disassembly a lot easier.

The high velocity ammo ratings are usually measured by the manufacturer with longer rifle barrels. So if you shoot it out of the 3 inch barrel it should fall down into the 1150 range. Is phoenix making that recommendation based on muzzle velocity coming out of their 3 inch barrel?
@AlmostPrecisionKinetics2 жыл бұрын
The muzzle velocity of the round is irrelevant to the manufacturer suggested ammo. It's stating the minimum recoil to function the slide and the max recoil/chamber pressure to not abuse and break the gun.

Do you have issues with your slide going into battery correctly with the 5" barrel?

What kind of holster is that? Is it for your HP22A? You always see a holster in the videos, but no one says what kind, and how they like or dislike them?
@AlmostPrecisionKinetics5 жыл бұрын
Its a generic neoprene holster for micro pistols from walmart. It works and its comfortable enough.

If I do these modes will the safety switch still work as a slide safety?
@AlmostPrecisionKinetics Жыл бұрын
Yes. It doesn't change the slide safety

Tad aaa. If you lock the slide back first, you don't have to hold that crazy spring in place. Tad aaa.

125# spring from Ace hardware and you can shoot any ammo

I'll check that out. Thanks!

I went a little bit further and replaced the sear spring, trigger spring and recoil spring with the M*Carbo Kit, now the trigger pull feels extremely light, like shooting an airsoft pistol. Love it!

Do you have a part number? or dimensions of which spring you used?
@robinhoods-homestead2 жыл бұрын
@@almeal406 I don't I apologize I took the spring i had to a few hardware stores until I found one that was close the 125 was on the packaging when I bought it

Bending the mag bar voids the warranty. Just put a bit of tape under it and trim the safety to mag button part. Replace the cut part and pull out the tape to send it in, for 1yr.

Mag saf is 4 when you dump the clip !!! You don't pop the 1 in the chamber.

How many rounds do you currently have through the gun? At what round count (approx) are you changing out the recoil spring and hammer? What about the firing pin? I will be picking up one of these guns next week and want to order some spares for it. Thanks for the vid!

I've got close to 1000 rounds through it. All cci standard velocity or cci segmented hollowpoints. I've changed the recoil spring twice now and my hammer has a firing pin dent that ought to hold out a few hundred more rounds.

@@AlmostPrecisionKinetics Yep just changed my recoil spring out after 1000. I run CCI standard velocity, CCI Mini Mags 40gr. solids (these are roughly +85fps above rated velocity but not high velocity), and Federal Auto Match bulk pack. I pretty much stick with these three that are at or close to the rated ammo. I disabled (can change back) two of the four safeties. The mag release safety and the mag disconnect safety in the grip. I have a spare manual safety for changing back. I put a piece of plastic under the mag disconnect bar to hold it off. So it will still be under warranty. Its a project pistol for only $125. I worked on the mags so that the pistol is now running 100%. I also modified the follower so my slide locks open after last round and I am not constantly dry firing after the last round. I have a lot of spare parts for any maintenance or repairs as the parts are cheap. Its a good pistol for what it is. I use it for practice and training. Maybe varmints and small game. Its biggest drawback is like on all the other Saturday night special ring of fire types. It has no internal firing pin block safety (the manual firing pin block safety on the slide does nothing to prevent out of battery firing) to prevent out of battery firing so it can potentially fire out of battery. That is why I worked my mags to get the pistol to run without feeding problems. There are safer pistols on the market but its still a good pistol and its under lifetime warranty. Thanks for sharing.

Why not send the pistol back to Phoenix Arms for hammer replacement instead of doing it your self? Isn't the hammer indentation covered by Phoenix warranty? I'm talking from the point of view of a non-mechanical inclined individual who doesn't want to mess around with pins and pin punches! 😉

You could I'm sure. But mailing firearms in and of itself is a pain in the butt.
