While doing a 200 round reliability test we started to have an issue with the trigger, and safety selector. We finished the 200 rounds, and brought it home to clean/inspect.
.
While cleaning we found the grips were slightly loose. Decided to remove them, and inspect the inner workings for issues. The safety selector had some unusual wear on it, and so did the trigger bar. We promptly cleaned, and replaced the grips after putting the safety selector, trigger bar, and disconnector back in place. The issue was gone???
.
So we opened it back up. Turns out the grip is what keeps those 3 parts in place. So we decided to share the video with everyone incase you have this issue or know someone that does.
.
We are quite fond of this little pistol, despite my argument of if I could only have 1 phoenix the 22LR vs the 25ACP. I really do enjoy this HP22A. As for the reliability tests those are just based on our experience with a single pistol. odds are that they aren't all going to be the same. So my opinions are based on a sample size of 1.
.
We are on a mission to hit 1k subs by the end of the year. If you like our videos, and want to see more let us know in the comments field below.

I am a certified Firearms instructor; I have used Phoenix arms 22 Cal pistols in training and CCW classes for many many yrs. I have had thousands of rounds through each of them without any problems. I will continue to use them in classes as well as personally.

Thanks, great video. You mentioned having problems with CCI ammo. I checked my owner's manual and found that this gun was never intended to fire "high-grade" ammo like CCI. The manufacturer recommends "Lead round nose ammo with a travel velocity between 1050 and 1150 feet per second". CCI Stinger ammo has a velocity 1640 feet per second.

100% correct. It really likes the ammo it’s intended to use. That’s on me, and most likely why mine ended up having to be serviced. It really likes bulk box lead round nose.

@@boss94ways51 what does that have to do with the manual that says that you should only use lead round nose bullets rated between 1050 and 1150 feet per second

The Phoenix HP22a is a good firearm for the money. I paid $150. for mine and have fired 400 rounds through it so far. The only real issue I have had with it was the firing pin, but replacement is simple if one is mechanically inclined. Customer service and parts is excellent in my view and is easy to acquire what is needed. I have never had an issue with the trigger so far, but this video is helpful.

@@2A_CaliGuy Be sure to tighten down the setscrew in the coverplate over the end of the firing pin. Mine was protruding out a ways preventing the hammer from striking the firing pin with full force. Sometimes at the factory quality assurance breaks down. Even the best weapons can have little flaws from production. Also if one dry fires the pistol alot the firing pin will wear out faster. You probably knew that.

@@d.tombentz3382 I like this idea - going to try it. Mine jams sometimes - maybe ejector problems? I only use CCI - I might try another brand.

It’s a great little gun. I found the parts for it are fairly inexpensive. I need to replace my firing pin I believe that’s what’s causing my light strikes

replace the main spring with a heavier spring and replace the seer spring with a lighter one and you drop about 4lbs of trigger.

Could you have just bent the trigger bar a bit to engage the sear more? perhaps the stamp bar has rounded edges the help to not engage, just thoughts. Good work!

Possibly. Because it started to hang fire. I replaced everything. Now it works great though. We’ve put many many boxes through it. Great little range gun. I’d like to get the range kit with longer barrel just for fun. Thanks for watching

When it fires does the slide cycle, and pick up a new round? Something these pistols are picky about is how the recoil spring is oriented. If the end of the coil is dragging it will create resistance preventing it from firing like a semi auto, and can cause damage to the internal slide/frame components.

Sometimes the recoil springs have issues. If you’re local to CA you can go to their shop, or you can reach out, and they will handle the repair. They have an amazing warranty considering the price point. When they run good they’re fun for the range. Cheers

your seer bar is pushed to far to the left. Your fix is not a common issue and you only need to seat the seer so it does not move to the left . They make an upgrade kit that adds a follower to the main spring and better tigger springs.
