@purplesamurai52052 жыл бұрын
I find it so ironic that the "most important character" has been in pretty much every game besides the originals.
@andrewparke1764 Жыл бұрын
That's something I also didn't expect at the time. I was confused because, to me, Ocelot was merely "the first boss" and thus expected to be the weakest and least important one. Games tended to have hierarchies whereby the later the boss, the more powerful and better connected to the final boss. Not so, here. Totally flipped that expectation on its head.
@Vollification5 ай бұрын
@@andrewparke1764 Right. But this game basically broke every other established rule about videogames back then. It starts out basic "kick the bad guys asses, save he hostages and the world. Standard stuff. Then it goes down and down the rabbit hole and you find out you are not the "hero", you aren't fighting to save the world or are "the worlds only hope" you are just a killer :( The base is owned and operated by Armstech and the only reason you are there is because this is the way to get Metal Gear back. If the government just wanted to "save the world" they would have just turned Shadow Moses into one big massive, radioactive crater, made up a cover story about "the most horrible nuclear accident in history since Chernobyl that shows me must really invest more money in safe disposal of nuclear weapon" and that would have been the end of it :(

"It takes a well-balanced individual such as yourself to rule the world." That always sounded weird to me. Even now, when I get the context (Solidus is genetically "balanced" compared to Solid and Liquid), it just comes off as strange. Haha, Solidus should've realized Ocelot was up to something based on the way he was talking in this scene.
@mrreyes50042 жыл бұрын
Well, yes and no. Ocelot was right when he stated that Solidus was a good leader; his masterminding of the Shadow Moses incident and military achievements in the Liberian War proved as much. Also, note that Ocelot isn't actually kissing up to Solidus or anything - he's literally just pointing out that Liquid's mental instability marked him as an inferior tactician to someone like Solidus, who is markedly more patient and logical.

Based on this conversation, it sounds as though Ocelot believed Liquid would win and because Liquid lost and this lost wasn't part of the plan, he used hypnotic therapy to create an alternative personality "Liquid". Liquid was probably suppose to be part of the plan to bring down Solidus.
@Random-bj3gf5 жыл бұрын
please elaborate
@MrRiddleAW4 жыл бұрын
I believe he only started the hypnotic therapy after Liquid started possessing him. He got Liquid's arm removed after MGS2 and replaced it would a prosthetic but wanted to keep the rouse so he underwent therapy. I don't think Liquid possessing him was actually planned and in MGS2 it seems that it might have altered the plans even further. Of course, Ocelot was pretty much-playing everyone at this point so I don't think it mattered to him who lived or who died in regards to the clones.

I just LOVE how throughout the game they're constantly talking about the president's willingness to stay ignorant of the entire shadow moses incident, to the point that the Secretary of Defense gets himself arrested for trying to blow up an island full of nuclear warheads... Meanwhile, Solidus has orchestrated the whole thing with the help of Big Boss' right hand man and one of the Patriots, who managed to facilitate the deaths of Sigint, Master Miller AND Para-Medic practically in one fell swoop. Obviously the sequels fleshed out the story a LOT, but if you're just looking at MGS1 as a stand alone sequel to Snake Eater and the msx games, it's a very satisfying wrap up!

It is my headcanon that when he said Snake was inferior such is not incompatible with him having the dominang genes. @mrreyes50042 жыл бұрын
Uh, no, not how that works. Liquid indeed did have the Recessive genes; that is canon. However, Liquid did not know that "Recessive" genes are not bad genes but in fact are just rare genes. Basically, Big Boss' superior soldier genes _ARE_ his recessive genes (as they are super rare), while Solid having Dominant genes just means that Solid has plain old everyday genes (because the definition of "Dominant" genes is literally just that they appear more; nothing says that Dominant genes are better, they are simply more common)
