The slow animations on the iPhone are a coverup for the loading of the app. The phone saves an image of the app as it looked when you closed it, and upon opening up the app it has to load that image as a placeholder for the app during the animation until the actual app is loaded. If the animations were faster, then you'd be staring at a frozen screen for a bit until the actual app loaded. It is definitely not a cheat.

What a logical man would think. The oneplus 5 looks amazing, it's faster then the 769$ phone, it has 128Go storage compaired to only 32Go on the iphone regarding price tag shown in this video. The Oneplus 5 has amoled display, much greater battery life, way faster charging speed than you would find on the iphone 7+ On the camera department the OnePlus 5 focuses faster, better colours reproduction, sharper images and with the recent updates the EIS has improved 500%. If it wasn't for the 5 year updates OTA from apple i wouldn't even considered buying an iphone, and even so, Android allows you to install custom Roms keeping up with updated OS versions.

Louis Almaguer Due to the iPhone's app suspension and compression, the animation is a good thing. Android phones like the OnePlus 5 continuously run the app in the background. The iPhone compresses the app into the memory. When you relaunch the app, it needs time to decompress into its running state. The animation gives you something smooth to look at while it loads. If there was no animation, it would feel slower because it hangs on the frozen screen longer. Meanwhile the OnePlus just needs to reopen the app on the screen and it is already running. In the past, constantly running the apps in the background meant some were unloaded and needed to be reloaded. The amazing amount of ram available on new devices means now it no longer needs to do this, and it now has an advantage.

These tests are fun to watch and to read apple fans comments, but it defiantly does not mean anything. Apps are made differently for each OS. also most people wont play 4 games after each others, or wont do a video lapse. anyway Iphone started to beat android phones since iphone6s when apple switched to NVME and android phones are catching up with UFS2.1. that one of the reasons that iphone beat android in most games loading, and also it does do a faster video lapsing. some people are saying that it needed an 8gb ram to beat iphone, will it doesn't matter since ur paying less to buy OP5 and i think a 6gb OP5 would also win this. Also if iphone had 8gb ram it wont be a huge speed different, since they are using its full potential. Anyway, iphones are faster for gaming , android are faster for daily usage (browsing/social media) and yes snapchat is way better on iphones, and its can only be fixed by Snapchat Developers. Some people are saying that android phones are slow, will i would agree if u mean Samsung phones, specially after few months of using Samsung phones. Phone speeds matter only while opening less load apps because that's what makes the user control the phone faster. Opening heavy load games a second earlier doesn't matter because the user is already waiting. For me, the phone with faster animations will be faster. (Ok, was an iPhone fake, but not original) For OnePlus fanboys, wow, an octa core with 2.45Ghz and 8Gb RAM (I know that RAM doesn't increase the speed, but without 6/8 Gb RAM Android can't keep these apps, anyway nobody open too many apps) beat a quad core with 2.34Ghz and 3Gb RAM. And if we stop the animations on iPhone, it will kill OP, iOS animations decrease the speed, apps start to load after the animation is done. On Android it's the same speed, just with animation or not. Plus in September iPhone will be again the "champ" in these tests. For Google, thank you for shitty optimizations. For David, who use a phone like this? For all fans, who cares about 0.01 millisecond in speed? We can't feel any difference. P.S. I'm not OnePlus fan or Apple big fan.

It has nothing to do with Ram. It has to do with the fact 1+ is the only Android oem to use UFS2.1 instead of the cheaper UFS2.0 . Apple has always used the best storage tech allowing for it's apps to open faster compared to Android OEMs who cut corners. Even Samsung cut corners using the cheaper and slower ufs 2.0 for 90% of S8.(Korean S8 had ufs2.1)

Not to be that guy but I see a potential flaw in the test itself: Potential outliers. Looking at the bars at the end, everything (except the really fast loading things with tiny bars, which mostly come down to animation speed) looks to be less than 20% slower on whichever device loads that app slower, except Bullet Force, which took damn near twice as long on Android, and Amazon, which took about 50% longer on iOS. I have never watched this channel before but it might be worth considering that, if BF always takes ~twice as long to load on high end Android devices, perhaps it's just a crappy port (not like bad ports of things are uncommon). Likewise, might be worth checking Amazon to see if that consistently loads ~50% faster on high end Android hardware than iOS, though there is definitely a good argument to be made that "Amazon should be on the test anyway because lots of people use Amazon".

I love the fact that an Android finally beat an iphone since the note 4, but like MKBHD says, real world performance is practically the same for each 2017 phone. Normal consumers aren't going to be running workloads like this. Each flagship and in this case, flagship killer, will do exactly what you need it to do 98 percent of the time. More important features are camera, ease of use, design (ergonomics that is), features etc.

Enable reduce motion see what happens. This is not a performance test. Animation length is set in the programming and will be the same regardless of how fast it converts a video file wasting some time in the process.
