I have had the issue with nearly the same settings that the halfway down option takes the photo and doesnt focus. Depending on the scene I am taking, light and all. Why does it do that??? Please answer

If a half press of the photo does not activate Auto Focus then it sounds like you have the AF turned of. Is their a switch on the side of the lens ? If so make sure it is not set to MF (which is manual focus), once switched to AF your problem should be solved. if you have a lens that does not have the switch then you will need to check focus mode settings on the camera. Hope that helps.

Great subject. My mom turned 60 in november and I wanted to make some nice pictures with my D3500 and the 35mm F1.8 (bought the lens used one and a half years ago). Everything went well until I noticed that the autofocus stopped working and I had to focus manually. I can still use the lens for astro but for portraits I ordered a brand new lens 😊

I agree 100% that we can and should move beyond Auto but. I had my camera for months before I could use it properly as everyone said 'Oh use manual' 'Manual is the only way' and of course, being clueless I tried and failed horribly. So I never diss starting with auto, we just need videos like yours to take that step forward and have even more fun .

Eye detection is amazing but not essential for taking good photos, enjoy the camera you have - technique and how you use the camera is more important the camera itself. Best wishes Paul.

Thank you, this particular topic will never get old for me. I wear bifocal glasses (for seeing at both reading and long distance) and generally muck up manual focusing as I must look through the wrong part of my glasses. I've tried adjusting the diopter, but failed at that too. I'd be grateful for a video on adjusting the diopter and on how to focus while wearing bifocal glasses (eg., do I look through the distance part of my glasses or the reading part?). Is looking through the camera at something that's 5 feet away considered as looking at something in the distance or does the fact that the image is on the screen/through the lens mean it's more like the closer distance of reading? I know the answers must be obvious yet my focus is still hit and miss. My optometrist says my glasses are perfect for my vision so I don't need new glasses. Maybe I just have quirky eyesight? Thank you.
@photogenius3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue Have you tried adjusting the diopter without the glasses? I often wear glasses too, but when taking a photo I don't want to (or need to) as there is enough adjustments in the diopter to compensate for not wearing the glasses - definitely worth a try. If not then try using the Live View and digital zoom technique as shown towards the end of the video.
