Today is September 8 of 2022. A few hours ago, I learned of the sudden death of Queen Elizabeth II. You know I'm not British, Victor, but I've been very sorry about this news, and I suppose you have too, as she's been head of state since you were a boy. I send you my condolences. I know for many Brits, she was part of their family. This beautiful song by Ringo has a nostalgic lyrics, but the melody is happy. It is an advantage of those of us who love songs in English before speaking the language: when you finally understand them, it's like rediscovering them, sometimes they disappoint you but many others they become even bigger, like this one. A strong hug, dear friend.😀

I am sorry that she passed also, I knew of her all of my life. We sometimes forget that people are growing older just as we did. I am losing people faster at 65 than other time in my life and it is hard. For me, I remind myself that she lived a good long life and will be remembered forever here on earth. God Bless her and her family.

I remember hearing this song for the first time, early one warm morning in May, 1974, in General Santos City, from a big old jukebox, in the dirt, under a corrugated iron roof shelter, while waiting to take off on an old Philippine Airways DC 3 plane for Davao City, before flying on to Manila, and Jakarta, having a coffee before boarding. The song has a haunting melody, which just makes you listen to it again and again. I was enroute home to Canada after some months as a volunteer English teacher in Majunga, Madagascar, having island hopped since February, from Réunion, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Bangkok, Malaysia, Pulau Penang, Singapore, Java, Bali, Luzon, Cebú, on to HongKong, Taiwan, Okinawa, Guam, Hawaii, ... then, home to Canada in June, 1974...at age 30!
