My father died in 1970. I was 5yo. This song was playing in a little diner @ the beach. Mom had taken us on our first outing. The song touched me. I almost never heard it again. @srkbear1

Actually I’m fairly certain that Harrison mainly contributed the chord changes in the verses (Ringo said “I only know three chords; Harrison adds an additional four and they think I’m a genius.” He also clearly led the ecstatic solo/bridge/middle 8 section (especially the 12 string and vocal harmony work). However, the choruses dominate the song, certify the euphoric recall folks still have when recalling it, and exemplify the sweet, childlike joy Ringo possesses that single-handedly saved the Beatles from Death by Virtuosity. It’s the element of the song that made it immortal, and it all came strictly from Ringo’s imagination and no one else’s. I’m never one to pass by an opportunity to laud George, but in this case I think Ringo earned his due...

"Photograph" is unique in Beatles history because it was a Harrison and Starkey (Starr) composition going to number one in America 1973. All those years 1964-1970 with Lennon and McCartney topping the US charts it was great to see George and Ringo being in the spotlight.

My first Valentine gift from my dad was the solo album of my favorite Beatles "Ringo" 1973 the number one song on that album is "Photograph" which my dad is a amateur photographer and I used to help him with setting up photo shoots for like local town plays and productions some still photographs for those 1970's photo cubes. Just listening to the song today I really listened to the words and from then till now the song is great but the meaning has changed as we change as we age... Thank you for giving me that memory because my Daddy is my one and only true Valentine. I tried to call him today but no answer I'll try again tomorrow

The orchestral composition right at the end of this beautiful song is absolutely surreal. It just takes it to another even higher level of beautiful. Have always loved this song. Yes, and just like Ringo, as I have gotten older and seen parents, family friends and loved ones pass, it makes me grateful for life, how absolutely precious it is, and makes me realise there is no time for quarrelling but only time to love and to serve our fellow human beings from all clans, tribes, nations and tongues and give thanks to One True Living God who sent His Son, that whomsoever would believe in Him, will never perish but receive and enjoy everlasting life, forever in Heaven. Thank you Jesus. 🙏

Yes @vincecomo4306, the USED to be REAL orchestras back then. I love synthesizers, and that's the only thing I can play with 2 strained thumbs from a bad job took away my 40 years of playing guitar. But it took away live orchestras and that kills me.

@OnePost909
@OnePost909 4 жыл бұрын
@@lifesprettygood Correct. Egos are a part of the equation. If you have written and sung a string of songs that have been loved by literally billions of people, and have gotten fabulously rich doing so, you will have a big ego. It's part of the territory. It's impossible to avoid. Every single great rock star has a formidble ego, and thank God for it, because it's fuel for the fire of their talent, without which that fire goes out and they sit back and count their money. John Lennon had a big ego. Paul McCartney had, and has, a big ego. So too Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Elvis, on and on and on. George Harrison had a moderate sized ego because his accomplishment and talent were moderate sized -- three or four really good songs, nicely put together with a great deal of help from his bandmates and from 2 good producers (George M. and Phil S.). Paul and John actually did quite a good job of dealing with the ego thing.

Another thing that makes this a special song for me is that Ringo was and is an obsessive picture-taker, and recorded the entire career of the Beatles on film. He takes photos of everything, all the time. So, when he talks about the magic and pain of a photograph, he's speaking from a deep understanding.

Well said. Ringo was an integral part of The Beatles. Not just the chemistry he had with John, Paul and George but his brilliant drumming. He was a key part of Strawberry Fields Forever, Rain, Ticket to Ride, She Said She Said and of course, A Day in the Life ... listen to his drum fills, his change of rhythm and the lightness of touch. His work on A Day in .... is immense. The shuffling and varying beat of Old Brown Shoe, the stop start double beat every 5th in Day Tripper, the drum fills in Help, the bongo mania in You're Gonna Lose that Girl, the gentleness in Something (come on, a song that could have been ruined by the wrong drummer!!), the magical propelling drumming in Rain, the relentless energy he brings to Tomorrow Never Knows ... it goes on. Tomorrow Never Knows is a towering achievement for so many reasons but all of that would have been ruined if the drumming was not right and it is the core of that song. I could go on and on. The drumming in For No One, And Your Bird Can Sing, You Never Give Me Your Money, We Can Work it Out, Nowhere Man .....
