This was the moment wildlife enthusiast Ewan Wilson got up close and personal with a herd of giant elephants while retrieving a camera trap in the bush.
This once in a lifetime opportunity happened on November 24, while Wilson was getting footage of the elephants happily grazing when they decided it was the perfect time to investigate the truck.
Ewan told Newsflare “These incredible mammals decided to spare our lives that day. They had every right to crush me and flip the vehicle but they didn't.
"Despite having such a young calf in the herd the alphas kept us alive.
"Please do not replicate or recreate this event in the wild. I never go out looking for these interactions as the risks involved are not worth the outcome."

@Master Of None "God's Word" - The Bible - yes, I do know. Job 12:7-10 speaks to us on this and in Genesis it tells us that God created all living things and while he may have given us dominion over the animals, He gave the animals hearts, lungs, brains, circulatory systems, the ability to reproduce, feel pain, comfort, and companionship just like man. The "spark" or "light" that is life instilled in us by God is also in the living creatures he provided for us. To deny this is to deny Creation itself.

My reading of what happened is that they were blocking their path with their car. The road was very narrow where the car stopped. The elephants were simply waiting for them to get out of the way. When that did not happen, and since no one was aggressive on the human side, eventually they changed course. You can see they were returning from the river. They are extremely intelligent animals.

Literally you see how agitated they get even if humans are more than 100 yards away. Humans don’t give nature’s creatures the credit they deserve when it comes to the way they think and feel, we need to start showing ALOT more respect for them.

(maim, not mane - autocorrect?) I can understand the sentiment. After you've lived in all sorts of settings (rural, suburban, urban, native and foreign) and most places you live there is violence. Here is the trend - the more urban, the greater the odds of violence. Difference in beliefs (political or religious) the greater the odds of violence. Those differences can transcend the population density setting. One more thing. One false move anywhere close to one of those baby elephants - accidental or intentional won't matter - and those adult elephants will show you just how they can choose to maim or kill.

@@NPCHSN You need to read up on how an elephant herd is build up. There are NO males in an elephant herd, ONLY FEMALES. Males are made to leave the herd when reaching adolescence. They roam as loners, looking up females during mating season . . . . silly 🤣

@@NPCHSNI’m not so sure. Males typically don’t hang around - they’re usually solo.

I knew that the elephant was not going to do anything to this photographer. He was just observing this young man and what was he doing . He was only very curious like any other animal would. Elephants are way too smart to cause harm……but since he and the rest of the heard had babies with them, this elephant wanted to make sure their babies were protected at all costs. Beautiful elephant, he was impressive. I understand this photographer being nervous, anyone would…..but these gentle giants are very intelligent creatures, they are magnificent and majestic animals, one of the greatest creatures of God’s creation. This photographer had the greatest experience of his lifetime being so close to this elephant. It was a magical moment. God bless and protect this gorgeous elephant always and all his family. And the same goes to this kind and nice photographer 👍🙏👏♥️♥️♥️

Elephants are like the land versions of whales -- enormous, majestic, intelligent, and incredibly sensitive creatures. The way we have callously slaughtered both of these mammals -- to the point of near-extinction -- is just criminal. We're supposedly the "intelligent" ones on this planet. I'm not so sure.
