That's a nice offering by Phylida, especially as this one does apparently not have QC issues. Always nice to see the ST 19 movement. And even with its effective lug to lug distance of the bracelet it looked good on the wrist. I just wish they had made it a little thinner.

Quite a bit of the thickness is down to that top hat crystal though. So I can forgive that personally, as I just love the distortion you get from it.

The Phylida is very similar to the 'Alpha speedmaster'. They are both nice watches and the cases are almost identical. A word of caution and it would be interesting to hear other views: the bezel insert on the Alpha which looks identical to the Phylida sits flush. I've only had my Alpha 5 weeks but noticed that the bezel insert is prone to scratches and dings. I'd be amazed if the bezel insert lasted 6 months. I hope I'm proved wrong. Also with the Alpha the display back 'glass' for the Seagull St1903 seems very light and worries me that it may break easily . What do people think of the Phylida bezel insert and strength of display back crystal?

That would be great. But then I guess it's not like the original design.

For what it's worth, a screw-down crown on a mechanical hand-wind movement can be a real pain in the neck. Because hand-winding watches have a hard limit on how much you can wind them, you never know how close you are to the end, and if you go too far, you can't screw in the crown until you let the movement run down a bit. So in essence, you can't ever fully wind the thing, because you may end up not being able to screw the crown in. So at least in the case of the Seagull ST19, I quite prefer a standard push-pull.

@@chrisb.h4605 That's incorrect. If it went all the way to the end, then that would indicate that it's diamond, not sapphire. Hence the name, 'Diamond Selector'. Yeah they're probably better examples, of where you're paying more for the name. But my point still stands. I own and have owned a lot of homages watches, as well as microbrand ones too. You can get great value for money with them. In some cases they can be even better than the originals. San Martin for example make better spec'd and built homages. Which also cost less too. So you're basing your argument that all homages are crap, just because you're mate has one faulty watch? As for sapphire crystal costing £130. That's not even close. It's far cheaper than that. Obviously it depends on whether it's flat or domed of course.
