Pia's strategy as being the dark horse (or "ghost" who came out of nowhere to win the title) worked perfectly for her. It was the total opposite of Catriona Gray's strategy during her year. The moment she won Binibining Pilipinas, Catriona was seen as the woman to beat, and she was the clear front runner as soon as she stepped off the plane in Thailand. And her preliminary performance sealed the deal. Yet both Pia and Catriona are so humble, authentic, and never looked down upon the other ladies during their Miss Universe experience, and in real life.

I am Colombian and I think Ariadna only cared about winning because the crown and the facade of being a beauty pegeant but not about representing an organisation and supporting a cause. Colombia always sends great representation but they always fall short on the Q&A. Is not about being the most physically beautiful anymore, and having a ton of surgeries. I have become more interested in miss universe because in the recent years because they have changed the narrative by giving more importance to attitude, personality and values that in the end make a person beautiful and There is people who still don't get that.

Guys let’s not be overly critical. “She’s like a ghost” may have been misinterpreted and really isn’t meant to offend Pia. In Tagalog, it’s translated to “parang multo lang siya” - meaning Pia literally did just come and go. She wasn’t saying Pia looked like a ghost. She was saying their moments together were very brief. This statement probably isn’t that heavy in Spanish. Just sounds awful in English. And adding to this point, I’m actually glad that Ariadna didn’t lie about her thoughts during the competition. In interviews, Pia has mentioned: “In the first day, you can’t act like you’re the winner already” “You have to know when to peak” - as advised by Shamcey. So they wind up saying “San galing tong babaeng to? She’s a dark horse” In translation - “where did this girl come from? She’s a dark horse” Pia has also made it clear that she was saving her energy for the most important moments - closed door interview, preliminary and the coronation night. Meaning she’s not gonna dress up with full blown hair and make up on some charity event. Even Perez Hilton can testify how at first, He didn’t really think much of Miss Philippines. Then she goes and steal the damn show with her fierceness. Her evening gown performance literally changed the game. Her facial skills was ethereal. It became the NEW standard. Ariana saying these just CONFIRMS Pia’s strategy worked. NO ONE SAW HER COMING. She came out there as a silent killer. I'm not sure but I watched an arrival video of the contestants before where all of them gathered in front of a building and they were asked to line up to head inside. Pia was positioning herself at the back then suddenly, I think it was a guide or something, calls her and told her to go in the front. That only shows that she was a standout. At the time I saw that, I thought she's going to win. And also, Ariadna would be lying if she just saw her once or twice, like a ghost that come and go because they did some photoshoot together in one studio. And I remember, Ariadna took a selfie while Pia was on the background. She posted the picture with the caption 'back to back', showing that she's too confident to make a back to back win.

I’m not sure if you know, but Miss Bulgaria is one of Pia’s friends in that pageant. She also trended here in the Philippines that day because of her sweet gesture when Pia was announced as the winner she motioned her to go to the center stage and get her crown. 😅 And with that, Filipinos appreciated that simple gesture, that’s why a lot of Pia’s fans created memes of Miss Bulgaria with sweet captions in it (you can check online if you want). Since then, a lot of Filipinos have become Miss Bulgaria’s fans and support her on social media like Instagram. She loves the Philippines and she knows that Pia deserves the crown. Maybe that’s why she decided to speak up about it because non-stop shade has been thrown on Pia for the past years after the pageant accusing her of robbing the crown, like what the heck? Totally agree! But let's put ourselves in Ariadna's shoes for a bit: Ariadna didn't just get humiliated, she was UTTERLY humiliated in front of millions and millions of viewers around the world! Even for someone who has a strong spirit, this can be so traumatic that it will probably take months, even years to get over with. What happened to her was not something that people will talk about for a week and then gets forgotten after. Five years on and people are still talking about it - that's how bad this humiliation is on her part! What happened in MU2015 will go down in history as probably the worst humiliation any contestant had to experience! Imagine putting all your energy and effort into something, working so hard to achieve its success (be it a relationship, a career, a business, etc.) and then, losing it instantly. The trauma and stress this caused could tantamount to death of a loved one, losing a job, etc. Bitter, yes, she probably still is. But more than anything, I think the trauma and stress it caused her, her family, and her country and having to bear them on her shoulders at that time and for the years that followed brought immeasureable resentment and hurt. Does this justify her calling Pia a 'ghost' during the competition? No, whether done in jest or not. Maybe she lacked the emotional, social and mental support to gain insights on this whole fiasco, to grow in maturity to be able accept humiliation and defeat gracefully. But people sending bad vibes her way will not help her in any way. Let's show empathy and send her love and well wishes instead and hope that that day will come when she can look back and laugh about it. P.S. I'm a big Queen P fan! And couldn't be more thrilled for all the wonderful things that has happened to Pia since her crowning!

One thing comes to mind why Colombia was first runner up instead of USA (Yes, I expected USA to be the 1st runner up instead of Colombia based on their answers) is that there were 6 judges in the final Q&A. 4 judges on the panel, 5th judge is everyone watching around the world voting online, and the surprise 6th judge, as announced by Steve Harvey, was their fellow contestants. In an interview in Good Morning America, one of the judges Perez Hilton revealed that the four judges unanimously voted for Philippines to win. Meanwhile, the 5th judge (us the global audience) consistently voted Philippines as first and Colombia always came in second (in swimsuit, evening gown, and top 5 q&a). So most probably, in the final top 3, global audience voted (again) Philippines first, Colombia second, and USA only third (even if her answer in my opinion is better than Colombia's). Now the 6th judge, their fellow contestants, who voted not only based on the top 3's answers but also taking into account all their experiences with the girls throughout the competition. We have no clue who they voted for because we do not know what happened off cam or who were their friends during the competition. But latinas tend to stick together every Miss Universe. Given a number of latina contestants in the pageant, assuming they have the same vote, that's a large number of vote for Colombia when compared to USA. I personally preferred Australia or France to be in the Top 3 instead of Colombia though.

THIS. Thank you. As I native spanish speaker I also knew that she used the expression as we normally use it in spanish, and it doesn't mean that Pía was like "no threat" or "invisible". I'm an interpreter and believe me, when you translate literally from spanish to english and from english to spanish, many things can have a deep meaning and others don't. Just like when Steve Harvey makes his jokes at Miss Universe, many of those jokes make no sense in spanish. But take it easy people, we should never judge any contestant so badly in the first place. People from Central, South America & a little few from other Spanish speaking countries love being called "Latinas y Latinos," when they really speak Spanish!! Brazil alone speaks Portuguese!! Ok I speak Spanish and I thought Miss France that year was the winner until she failed the question. Miss Colombia said that the girl she felt was her Competition was Miss France. Because she was very elegant, nice dresses, and people would talked about her. When she was in the competition the people we talk about Miss France, Miss Australia, and her. Nobody would talk about Pia just her fan base who are filipinos. Miss Colombia said that the Director from the Philippines told her to take a picture with Pia because they will be the 2 girls holding hands. She thought it was weird that she said and it came true. She said maybe she said that because The director of Miss Philippines is Colombian. She said Steve Harvey apologize to her but also says something weird that made it sound that this was all plan for ratings.

Hi, Sierra and other watchers, i just wanted to say that Ariadna didn't say anything wrong nor insulting about Pia and never said she was undeserving of her title. She was asked in an interview about her time in the pageant world and Miss Universe (its a instagram series conducted by former Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez). She answered very honestly like Latinos do and said that: she PERSONALLY didn't see Pia a lot during the days of competition, only once at the dining place and then again in a rehearsal (hence, saying "she was like a ghost. A very Colombian expression) and she also said that she understimated her and didn't see her as strong competition until she met with director of Binibining Philipinas, Stella and took a photo with her and Pia where Stella told her "You and Pia are gonna be the top 2, i'm sure of it" and that's when she saw that Pia was a favorite of the people. That is all she said. She never said Pia was undeserving of her win nor insulted her. There was a wrong translation that started all of this. Stop adding fuel to the fired and please look for good translations as something expressions can get lost just like jokes. As for Miss Bulgaria's comment, we can't be for sure as anyone else has said anything about it but if it did happen, i hope other people come forward and share but no one else has said anything bad about Ariadna and if it did happened then she wouldn't have classified as they have chaperones who watch evreything that happens.

I'm giving ms colombia the benefit of the doubt. Translation between languages is very tricky to say the least, translating dialects or nuances of a certain language /dialect is even trickier. Remember that australians, brits, canadians and americans speak the same language(for the most part) but has words or phrases/sayings that are unique to each country. The spanish language is a universal language but each spanish speaking country even region has quirks or nuances that is unique to them. SPANISH spoken in barcelona is quite different than spanish spoken in mexico for example. Similar yet different at the same time.. 😂🙄🤔🤔

Big pageant fan and of course I remember this night...and I've been fallowing both queens on IG, KZbin VIDEOS, VLOGS AND ALL... But throughout all these years I took notes from #Pia becuz one day I dream my lil girl with be #MissUniverse... But one thing she said is "you have to know when to pop"... So to hear this statement is not surprising...Pia went into the competition knowing when to shine, while other candidates went in full force (witch is not bad) but lets remember, you need that energy for preliminary & finals night....so by the time those nights happen, contestants where overwhelmed...as for back to Pia, you have to know when to "POP" 💙👑💙👑💙

Ari did not see Pia as a competition because she was so full of herself. She placed herself above everyone else like she already won and the higher you place yourself above, the greater the impact on you when you fall. I'm not Colombian but I admire Ariadna's beauty especially her performance at the Evening Gown Competition of MU2015, I was like "OMG this woman is rockin the stage!!" ..but I also have to admit that MU isn't just about physical appearance it's also about one's kindness and Kindness doesn't come without Humility. well this is just my opinion, I mean no harm to anyone especially to Ariadna in fact she was also one of my personal favorites during that year, I was also rooting for her. I just wish Ariadna genuine happiness so she could finally free herself from that moment of.. you know.. pain, sadness, frustrations and embarassment. She wasn’t the only one who said that, Mariana Jimenez, Miss Venezuela from that year also said in a recent interview with Daniela Di Giacomo that Pia wasn’t really very noticeable because she wasn’t always around, just a few times with some asian candidates, and never considered her a strong contender. She also said she only started noticing who was Pia the last two days of the competition. Also she clarified that it was probably because some candidates were usually with very small groups and didn’t really shared with all of the queens because they were focused on themselves and that’s not something bad. So I think each perspective is different and valid, they didn’t said this in a derogatory manner. When Ariadna referred to her in Spanish as “un fantasma” it was in the sense that sometimes you will see her and most of the times not... She didn’t mean it in a bad way. The English translation sounds awful. People like to get everything out of context. Ariadna also mentioned that she accepted the decision and complied with the protocols of the organization and kept calm because she was conscious that happened for a reason and now she feels stronger and good things came for her after that... About Miss Bulgaria I have to say: “You’re the only one who felt that way about Miss Colombia”, because most of girls came out in support of Ariadna that same night to hug her and give her comfort, she had mote candidates around than Pia. If what Miss Bulgaria said was true, I think most candidates would have kept distance from Ariadna that night and would have ran to Pia only. But that wasn’t the case. I think Miss Bulgaria just overreacted based on her assumptions about Ariadna. Keep in mind the MUO evaluates all candidates since the beginning, the chaperones are keeping open eyes on everyone and if Ariadna would have done everything that Ms. Bulgaria claims, she wouldn’t have classified. We have the example Miss Venezuela 2015, Mariam Habach the next year, who apparently had an attitude with everyone including candidates and MUO staff, and there you go, she didn’t classify. 🤷🏻‍♂️ The only mistake Ariadna made was being overconfident and that excessive confidence was misinterpreted as arrogance by a lot of people. In contrast Pia showed herself very confident but at the same time down to earth and humble, that’s what made her win.
