Picard's (Patrick Stewart) funniest moments in Star Trek The Next Generation. Picard is a sober character to begin with so don't expect to be ROFL. These are select moments when Picard engages in some levity. Unsurprisingly there there are only 17 moments I found out of 7832 minutes across 178 episodes. Picard is funny for approximately 0.08% of the series. If you think I missed a moment that should be included let me know in the comments below (hint: I can think of two).
**Update: Thanks to all the commenters and their suggestions below Picard's Funniest Moments Part 2 is now available:

Josh B, I'm well aware of Stewart's work with the Royal Shakespeare Company. In fact, it was his common lament, usually during scenes where they were depicting attacks on the Enterprise, "Sixteen years with the Royal Shakespeare Company for this!" So, it's apparent his enjoyment where he could recite Shakespearean monologues during his role as Captain Picard. I'm sure the writers did what they could to add these literary elements for his sake whenever they could.

Well what else do you do when you've got "Shakespearian actor Patrick Stewart at your disposal than give him a bit of Shakespeare to recite like he's back in the old day job. (poor guy , and just when he thought he was diversifying.

2:45 “Where filming the scene where Picard, Riker and Worf investigate the fire in the cargo bay set by the Irish people, Patrick Stewart found the dialogue so hilarious, he started laughing, and forced himself to turn his back to the camera. When Jonathan Frakes approached him in-character as Riker, Stewart, still laughing, turned around and improvised the line about bowing to the absurd.” Patrick Stewart you are a rare breed of awesome

The Space-Irish episode, it does kinda bother me a bit. And in season 1 or season 2 there is an episode that mixes-up Black folks with “Space Arabians,” and *that* one is problematic and difficult to watch also. {Forgive my understatement ? It’s super racist, and seems to ignore the anti-racist message of TOS’s “left half white, right side black” aliens…}. Anyhow, in that early TNG episode, Tasha is supposed to be somebody’s {Lü-Tahn ‘s ? } new favourite wife (against her will). Imma check if Colm Meaney is onscreen in the “Space Irish” episode, because he put his foot down regarding that sort of nonsense later in Deep Space Nine {when some new aliens take on the forms of imaginary and historical figures on the station, the Rumple-Stilskin they found with Molly *had* been written to be a leprechaun, and legend has it that Colm Meaney was like: “have you writers NOT yet learned your lesson ? Do I have to quit over this ? If you people think you’re gonna press your ONE Irish cast member into doing a leprechaun episode… if I need to explain to you what’s wrong with that… “ (I wonder if his visual aid in teaching would be a single American finger straight up, or if it’d be the back of the hand with index + middle finger both extended up like many folks do overseas… {I wonder if that’s exclusively an English thing, in which case Colm might not choose that… } “Mr. Meaney, I need some Irish culture education 👋” But yah, you’re not supposed to turn the person you’re offending into your ethnicity-sensitivity-training person. That’s kind of a “double dis.” People who are already life-long tired of the oversimplified preconceived notions about how their ethnicity or skin color exists in the minds and affects the behaviours of others…. You’ve JUST pissed that person off, or at the very least annoyed them. That “othered” person is highly likely not to have that Jesus of Nazareth or Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. kindness-and-loving teaching modality going on (at least in that moment).

Based on interviews, Patrick Stewart was actually an overly serious jerk the first couple of shoots. Then, the rest of the cast and crew taught him to just have fun. After that, they all just had a blast all the time. In fact, there was a game where the cast would try to make each other laugh right before they started shooting. Apparently Brent Spiner (Data) was almost always the winner.

Patrick and Majel had superb chemistry. The straight man and the clown; classic comedy duo. Patrick can be so subtle and Majel is so over the top. And of course her character is Betazoid so she knows perfectly well Picard is biting his tongue for the sake of diplomatic amity. Damn I miss her.

This series will always have a special place in my heart and my childhood. My dad was a fighter pilot n didn’t see him much. But we loved watching new episodes of TNG together. Cap Picard, Sergeant Carl Winslow, Uncle Phil and Tim the Tool Man Taylor were all the pinnacle of TV dads of the ‘90s.

2:45 Pretty sure Patrick Stewart broke character there for a couple seconds and started laughing at how stupid the whole premise of that episode was. At least it feels like it, then he kind of reigned it back in and gave his line.

“Where filming the scene where Picard, Riker and Worf investigate the fire in the cargo bay set by the Irish people, Patrick Stewart found the dialogue so hilarious, he started laughing, and forced himself to turn his back to the camera. When Jonathan Frakes approached him in-character as Riker, Stewart, still laughing, turned around and improvised the line about bowing to the absurd.”

I remember these scenes only too well. That scene where Picard tries to get Lwaxana back was surprising the first time I saw it; from the third-last episode of the third season entitled "Menage a Troi". But the funniest scene of all - in my opinion - is from the episode "Disaster"; the fifth episode of the fifth season. I saw it between 10-11 p.m. on FOX 29 (a Buffalo-based TV station) on Friday, October 25th, 1991. The day before, Gene Roddenberry had died. I will never forget he scene in which Riker and that girl named Marissa both said: "Aye, sir." I laughed so hard that I hit the floor!
