Paramount tried screen tests with a French accent (and a hairpiece.) They were... interesting. He sounded like a bad impression of Jacque Cousteau! Maybe the primary language of France shifted through historical events. Heck, _French_ isn't even a native language. It's an offshoot of Latin, which the Gauls kept using after the western half of the Roman Empire collapsed

Yeah, that episode (Night Terrors) seems to draw a lot of criticism (I guess Troi's flying dream sequences are the most criticized part), but I find it interesting to see how everyone deals with the paranoia and hallucinations. The music (I think one of the last episodes that Ron Jones composed for) adds to the creepy tone as well. It's a very unique Trek episode.

Sometimes I like to take a moment and compare what they have in Star Trek to what we have today. Keeping in mind that when this show was new they didnt have any of the devices they shows on screen. Picard sitting there on the console is literally what almost everyone at one point or another has done today. Hell we use Tablets and smaller tri-corder like devices all the time now too.
