As a nurse recruiter, please make sure your program is CCNE or ACEN accredited because if it isn’t one of those, you cannot get hired everywhere. Also be aware that magnet hospitals will give preference for BSN residents over ADN residents.

From what I've heard BSN's also make alot more and are in much higher demand. I talked to a few people who got really depressed when they got a ADN and found out how little they made since BSN's where in much higher demand but (for that area at that time at least) the market was kind of flooded with ADN's.
@mjk63353 жыл бұрын
Honestly, as long as you have a nursing license, the hospitals don’t care. Most will still hire you if you adn verses bsn.
@melscorner45983 жыл бұрын
Having a BSN has nothing to do with a magnet hospital. In my area BSN graduates made a dollar more per hour. the hospitals in my area changed that policy and now pay is based on job history experience. Most hospitals will pay for you to go back to get your BSN. I graduated from a ADN program and started in a critical care nurse residency program. The hospital is now paying for me to get my BSN. It's going to take me a year to complete

The only thing i can think of to add to this video is look at what percentage of people that graduate from that program get a job as a nurse within a year of graduating. Look at the school’s reputation in the area. There are definitely some schools that have better reputations than others. Honestly, while most hospitals, especially magnet hospitals, may PREFER BSN RN, there aren't much difference between what an ADN RN & a BSN RN in terms of what you CAN do in practice. Obviously, as you have more experience and is looking to get into say management or higher up, they may require you to have the BSN or higher level of education. So, in terms of getting your foot in the door, I agree with Nuse Blake. Know the difference between RN vs. LPN/LVN and go to an accredited school. Anyway, good luck!

The US is kind of stupid like that. I had a friend who went to a small business school in the 90s (i dont remember exactly what subject she took but it had to do with office administration) and she found out after she'd taken a year long program that the little degree she got was something no one accepted them, so she just pissed away thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on a useless slip of paper. It turned out the degree she needed was a completely different associates degree, which was 2 years instead of 1 year and they basically told her to either start from scratch and go to school for 2 more years or frame her existing degree since it was basically a really expensive decoration

Good question! There are so many different programs out there now that offer unique paths to get your BSN. Most of the larger schools now just have programs that are BSN only. My program was a partnership between the community college for my ADN and the university for my BSN, they call it a concurrent program. They are pretty popular with the community/state colleges that are nearby large universities.

@NurseBlake3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nancy! This is only a question you can answer yourself and depends on your goals and passion. ADN vs BSN will also depend on the area where you live/work. Some hospitals in the major markets now require BSNs. First, graduate and celebrate your ADN! :-) Get some experience under your belt and then decide. Nursing offers so many cool opportunities in different settings. You'll be able to carve out your own unique path.
@morgainnetaar3 жыл бұрын
@@NurseBlake I definitely think the BSN will be worth it, especially because hospitals here help with financing.

Hey Nancy, I want to second what Blake said there. Whether it will be worth it to get a BSN, MSN or even a PhD/DPN is up to you and your goals. With that said, celebrate your ADN accomplishment, get your foot in the door and get some experience and if you work for a hospital, a lot of times they will pay for you to go back to school if you so choose to. Good luck!
