I was riding shotgun in a journey mobile home going to the thousand islands. The driver noticed a noise.I took the engine cover off and put a big screwdriver on the left cylinder head.I begged him to shut it down because it was surely a rod. Just as I begged him to shut it down I watched the rod come through the strongest poin on that block and it was stuck in the pavement. We turned into a fruit stand and there was a puddle so naturely he drove through it and it was 3 feet deep causing the body to kinda whip and it emptied the refrigerator of its contents all over the shag carpet. There were no parts available so we collected every piece of cast iron off the block to have it all nickel welded back together. He found a rod and crank in a junkyard and he put that poor 440 back together and it ran better than when he bought.

My 1971 "Kayōt" (never seen another one) 23' Class A had a 413, 727, Dana 70, and no heat or running water. I paid $1000 for it in 2004. On the way home the fuel pump took a shit in the busiest intersection in Bellingham, at rush hour. A bystander loaned me his gas can and gas, and I dribbled gas down the carb for 7 miles to get home. I lived in it for a year and a half. Not a good time in my life!
