I've always liked adventure bikes over any other for their capabilities and comfort.. This is my preference after riding sports bikes and cruisers before hand. Then long way round came out and the BMW GS were the best things in my mind. Last year the long way up showed how Harley Davidson have adapted and changed from just being cruisers and I have to say I'm very impressed with their bikes. Your positive feedback is just reinforcing my opinion. Great videos by the way 👍

I have one of these and is an excellent everyday and touring bike. The modes work well and the added customisable modes allows for a little more fun. Self adjusting valves also make this easy and cheap to maintain. I also do trail riding rather than full off road) and this makes it an ideal bike to go exploring around the destination. I have put 4400 KMS on it since August. Some teething problems, to be resolved with a software update soon, (Screen font size, nav app and some sensor thresholds need adjusting ) but no breaks or issues to date.

Sounds like you are already tiring of the Triumph, oh dear poor old thing 😁 The only thing that gets me about a lot of new bikes and the Sportster S and Pan America are prime examples, is the controls look more like game consoles or TV remotes now. Not thick glove friendly for those winter mornings. It does suit you that style of bike, being so tall, but interested to see it being used 2 up, and what Monica thinks. Great video as always 👍
@FreddieDobbs2 жыл бұрын
It’s a very good point re the controls. I think the indicator switch very poorly placed on the Pan America. Interestingly, Monika far prefers the Bonneville and cruiser bikes for pillion comfort over the Pan America.

Hi Freddie Question, why do you always get off a bike on the 'high side'...Just interested, great vid. By the way any sight of the volcanic dust/smoke on La Palma from where you are ?
@n4zou2 жыл бұрын
He lives in a country that drives on the left side of the road so riders tend to do it that way. Not all do it that way. Here in the USA we drive on the right side but motorcycle Police officers are trained to get on and off the bike to the high side so they are on the right side of the bike away from traffic.
@macumuzahn2 жыл бұрын

Great video. Still not convinced on Pan America looks but as you say, it’s all subjective. I hope HD doesn’t move their entire range towards the like it or leave it idea, as the main reason I like Harley’s is the ability to customise with aftermarket parts. Seems the newer HD models, Pan America, Sportster, 750 etc, apart from swapping pipes, leaves little scope for change 🤔

The Harley does look nice. As a returning rider (37 years in the wilderness) and at only 5’6” I can concur that adventure bikes can be slightly intimidating. So my first bike back was a CRF250Rally and after that was stolen my next and current ride is a Triumph Tiger900 Rally Pro (obviously picked the tallest option - due to its looks). It may be concerning when coming to a stop, however, when it is rolling it is sooooo comfortable, even to the point of riding 800 miles from Munich to Northamptonshire in 1 day, 15 hours - 5 countries! What’s not to like 👍 Took my missus on it for the first time (her first time on a bike my first time with a pillion for over 37 years) the other week, have to be honest the height was concerning while she was getting on but all was good. Enjoy your weekend with the bike, I so need to have a month touring round Tenerife 😉 Ian Back on Two Wheels

Hello you 2, Glad to see the Bonnie back home and I think I might bring mine over to Tenerife for any work as my local Triumph dealer charges a lot more labour and a good excuse to visit. Just ordered my Sizzapp thanks for the discount came out at £136.35 delivered bargain. Well must admit the Harley looks good, comfortable, and simply to ride, looking forward to further reviews. Super camera work Monika even if the director gets over enthusiastic at times. Take care

Thanks Richard, I’m delighted to have the Bonnie back, and I was amazed at labour costs!😳 I do now definitely “get” adventure bikes, they feel like the ultimate bike👌🏻

See Freddie you never knew such a cool bike existed but now sat on it, you feel the bees knees and hopefully Monica will feel safe in her somewhat lofted position. Hope she has that chin strap on her helmet adjusted.

I traded my R1200GS for the Pan America and I love it! I hope you discover all the potential setting options. It’s a real hooligan with the traction control switched off! And the tank is aluminum if you haven’t figured that out yet.

“It’s a real hooligan”……hope Freddie doesn’t try to find out as ‘his ambition could exceed his talent’ (as Casey said about Rossi).

Triumph have a bad reputation in a lot of places. Adventure bikes: the most comfortable I have ridden is my Buell Ulysses. Labour charges in Portugal: between 20 and 30 euros. Blimey! I thought you were going to drop it. I liked the look of this bike when I first saw it a few months ago. Don't like it now. I'd much prefer the most basic GS. Those handlebars are the usual Renthal size: 1 1/8'' tapering to 7/8''.

Interesting- I am hearing that a bit re Triumph’s reputation. I really want to try a GS now I’ve had a taste for big adventure bikes. Portugal’s labour rates- incredible!

@@FreddieDobbs And my experience of Portugal's mechanics is that they are really good. They fix things as opposed to replace if they can.

Great video Freddie 👍 I think it’s time you bought that street bob mate. I have a softail slim and been all over Europe on it. Customise it to your tastes, it’s part of the ownership experience 😎

That control panel looks a bit like the Space Shuttle but I accept that the HD is quite easy to ride. It doesn't know what it is though - adventure bike? Not if you drop it! It looks more like a road bike. The other thing is pillion height - no wonder Monika was scared trying to get on it using the horse-mount technique; it's far too high and a bit off-putting for a passenger. Pose-value looks good but I'd prefer the Bonneville in my old-skool checklist. It just looks like a m/c whereas the Harley from the offside looks kinda Fisher-Price with all that plastic. But looking forward to your 4-day review and real world experience.
@FreddieDobbs2 жыл бұрын
Thanks John! It’s true- Monika didn’t like the pillion comfort. She much prefers the Bonneville or cruisers for pillion comfort🙂👌🏻

With the amount of buttons the Harley Davidson Pan America has on it's handlebars, it reminds me of the Honda Goldwing. Those have always had tons of buttons on their handlebars as well. Have you heard from the owner of the Autobianchi yet? Would be nice if you could borrow it for a morning, or a day, to see what it is like, I'm genuinely curious myself.
