Dahlias are my grandpa's favorite flower. He passed away in June 2021, so I enjoy seeing your lovely garden and remembering the good times! The close up shots especially remind me of the times long ago when he would walk me through his gardens, and show off flowers that were larger than my then seven-year-old head.

Fabulous video! What company can I trust to actually send me the Labyrinth Dahlia? I had a company send almost all the wrong tubors and I got a Mystery Day that was a nice surprise that I didn't order also! Do the Cafe au Laits bloom faster than the Cafe au Lait Royals? No signs of buds from my Cafe au Lait Royal (zone6) but all the other dahlias around it had blooms and I am wondering if I will have better luck w the lighter color version?

This was lovely to watch, thank you! I've only been trying to grow dahlias for the last couple of years, and not with a whole lot of success. I originally ordered David Howard online, but the tubers came shriveled and moldy, so I just went to Walmart and picked up whatever they had available: a mix called Purple Rain and a bag of Creme de Cassis. I love Creme de Cassis, which is a lot like your Creme de Cognac, only maybe a bit more purple rather than burgundy, with the top of each petal being much lighter than the underside. I ended up with a white and purple striped dahlia in the mix which I think is Bristol Stripe, and it's consistently devoured by caterpillars. More evidence for your theory of bugs targeting white dahlias. None of my darker flowers have been nibbled.
@TONYAwiththeflowers3 жыл бұрын
I think I've grown Creme de Cassis in the past, it's beautiful! It always seems that the bugs favor the white and yellow flowers in my yard. I'm really excited for another season of dahlias. Thanks so much for watching! :)

you know I didn't realize how much I love flowers until I watched your video about zinnia , I tell you ever since I been stalking your channel LOL . and no matter how long the video is in the end I'll be like "oh no" and I start another tutorial . I had bought the Asiatic lilies and the zinnia seeds from one of the sources you mentioned before and I planted them about 10 days ago the lilies start showing a Tiny leaves but the Zinnia didn't come up at all, since everyone says it takes few days to come up, I assume something went wrong, so I went ahead and try it again this time with the paper towel method and they've been in there for about 3 days so far hoping it works . Being very new to this I would really appreciate it if you can name me a few flowers that will do well inside with partial shade or in the balcony. keep doing what you doing, and thanks in advance Miss shay

I have a small space in my yard for flower gardening. We don’t get frost where I live (Southern California). I would love to plant bulbs, but worry that if I dedicate the area to that, then I won’t be able to grow anything else there all year. I know you have a smaller yard also, so looking for your feedback on how you grow tubers/bulbs and seeded annuals in a small space? Thank you!
@TONYAwiththeflowers4 жыл бұрын
A lot of the bulbs, I grow as annuals. For example, I replant new tulips and ranunculus each season. I would look for bulbs which naturally have a dormant period. Interplanting might also be a very good option. Good luck!

There are two anemone dahlias called Polka = they are completely different colours and flowers. I had the one you have - I loved it. Not many blooms tho. Some anemones type dahlias have the bigger flowers like your Polka - the other Polka is more like the smaller traditional anemone ones. and it does have a lot of pink and yellow i think. I understand you bought the big ebay mix and that's totally understandable, but what about all the others? Is it where you order them from? Kind of concerning. I personally like to know what I have and what's growing. Makes me nervous ordering online seeing so many of yours wrongly labeled lol.

What I received was 6 (and this took me all season to figure out - caused more underlying stress than I needed) Mystery Day! They did offer to replace the tubers this coming year or a merchandise credit which doesn’t expire, which is the option I took. The MD actually started out purple/white and then later in the season was more fuschia red/white. I’ve read that dahlia genes aren’t very stable snd very affected by environment. But I’m sure they sent the wrong varieties and wonder what to do with all these tubers I didn’t order.

Your growing conditions can sometimes affect height or coloration, but make no mistake, dahlia companies sell you anything just so they don't lose a sale. I found dahlia varieties on the websites of many online companies, and bought some of them to replace varieties I had lost. The end result was disastrous because none of them looked anything like the online pictures, which were perfect representations of what they look like. Many of these companies are deceptive. Many of the ones mentioned in your video are dishonest, to put it mildly.
