They definitely need full paddle testing before matches. Players should submit their paddles before play begins in order to avoid any controversy. Secondly, with matches continually getting more competitive and netting higher earnings, they should adopt an electronic line calling system like hawkeye which is used in tennis if possible. The sport is growing at an astronomical rate and the PPA needs to keep up with the times or suffer "McEnroesque" meltdowns on the court.

Coming from tennis to pb and have only played three times so far, but this is all silly. You will never be able to regulate this cleanly. Only 4 solutions in my opinion.. 1 Just consider the delaminaion as the paddle is broken in and legal.. 2 Have a test that you put the paddle on the floor on court , drop a ball on it and if exceeds a certain height its illegal.. 3 Or all paddles have to have a wooden core..
@pickleballer1729 Жыл бұрын
I guess I don't know enough about paddle manufacturing and physics. It's hard for me to understand how paddle delamination could affect the paddle's performance in a positive way. Sure, it might make it "hotter" but it HAS to make it more inconsistent in the process, so I don't get how it's a benefit. But clearly, some see it as such, so it needs to be addressed. I think the paddle manufacturers should be urged, at this point, and required, eventually, to design paddles that are quieter as well. Otherwise, we may find ourselves in a situation where thousands of new courts all around the country are suddenly rendered unusable because of noise complaints and local noise restriction codes.

Mayweather doesn't score his own fights. Tom Brady doesn't get to measure the chain himself and decide if he got a first down. Devidze and Jansen shouldn't have an opportunity to even develop reputations as bad line callers in the first place...because they shouldn't be calling the lines. Equipment aside, a good portion of the instances of Jansen complaining about "the paddle" were on points where she very easily got to a ball and just flubbed a passing shot into the net. Your opponent would have to have one heck of a delaminated paddle for it to start causing you to hit your own shots poorly.

This is going to destroy Pickleball eventually. You need consistancy and a way to have confidence in your paddle. I "lead" my paddle up to 9 oz and spin so much that players can't believe it. I have been accuesed of using an illegal amounts of lead. Their is no illegal amount of lead. It makes it harder to swing faster but helps with spin. I lose the really fast battles at the net. But that never happens too often because my shots have so much power that most players let them go just to see them dip just before the line. In Table Tennis my Table Tennis rubber top sheet would bubble. That means that the top sheet would separate from the sponge. My racket didn't become illegal if it started to separate during a match. I've never been called on this in all the Table Tennis U.S Opens I've competed in. This is a problem with half the Pickleball players hating those players that spin the ball at a higher level and the other half that want to hit/drive the ball and play with more finesse. Go watch some 1920's Table Tennis and your will see people "Pushing the ball" back and forth and then compare that to the "Dink". Pickleball is changing. It will continue to change. There is no going back. They actually made a "Hardbat" event in the U.S. Open in Table Tennis for people that want to play that old style. Maybe do the same in Pickleball. Running around accusing everyone of cheating or their saying their paddles are illegal is getting old and causing more problems for this sport.
