Thanks, Rory. This was great pickleball from the standpoint that it taught the viewers a great number of lessons, both good and bad. Also, I agree with you about the lady in red paddle strokes being very unorthodox. Pointing the paddle straight down typically means hitting the ball up and generating pop ups. I spend a lot of time with beginners trying to get them away from that technique, and using it only in "desparate situations". But, as you also note, it works for her, and as long as it does, I'd let it go, too.

Thanks for watching. You're not the first to ask. Some of the players I play with do not want to be on youtube. But I will get to it. Thanks for watching.

I'm surprised you didn't say anything about the guy in black having his hat on backwards. He was pretty good. But why are any of them wearing hats on indoors, anyway?

Good question. Thanks for watching.

Because they’re accustomed to wearing hats when they play I would guess.

Lady in red, best player and playing with purpose. She also did something I do but do not see that often? When your team is serving, when the return shot is hit back, to someone, the other person should be immediately running to the kitchen, not standing there looking at their partner hitting it, then moving forward. she moves forward immediately.
@pickleballpick-apart9787 Жыл бұрын
Before moving forward when hitting a third shot, the player hitting and their partner need to know how effective the shot is going to end up being. Running forward blindly is a bad idea. I am posting a video tomorrow morning exactly why. So, good timing!
@daveharter6469 Жыл бұрын
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 never said blindly,
@davegenet11 ай бұрын
@@daveharter6469What is the difference between immediately and blindly? You need to evaluate your partner’s shot before deciding to move forward. What if it is a high drive in the put away zone? If you mean she moves forward immediately when she recognizes the third shot drop is good I agree. Watching the video she does seem to get in the ready position very well. Personally, I am often too slow to recognize when to move forward.

@davegenet Yes, I agree . that is the problem with describing something with so many interpretations. Blindly to me is not thought of anything, just run up. emediatly is as soon as possible. You do have to see what kind of shot your partner is hitting.
@davegenet11 ай бұрын
@@daveharter6469 yeah after watching the video I could see that you meant she was just very ready to move when the time was right and I agree. She got into her ready position very well and when it was time to move she moved. Wish I was as good at that.

Not great, and that’s just my opinion after watching the first point. Lady serves to the lady in red who returns it down the middle. Servers partner - guy in blue who is a right-hander, moves to his partners side of the court to return it with his BACKHAND. This then leaves a massive area down the line for the lady in red to hit a winner to. What was the guy in blue thinking of? And how was it that you did not comment on it Rory?
@pickleballpick-apart9787 Жыл бұрын
The first point? I did comment on it. I said she served it right down the middle line, the guy hit it instead of the woman and he when he ran up, he ran to the middle of the court and was out of position. The court was open and the woman in Red put it where he should have been. Thanks for watching.
@tomwharton9800 Жыл бұрын
@@pickleballpick-apart9787 Nah Rory, your comment did not address the fundamental reason player in blue was unable to get in position for the 4th shot. Nothing wrong with him taking the 3rd shot - it’s pretty common for the guy to take the middle ball in mixed doubles - but by moving across to take it on his backhand, he was hopelessly out of position for the next shot. I don’t know, maybe he feels he can drop better with his backhand, but in this point, his drop was poor. You actually called this a “GREAT PLAY”. Yes, the return by lady in red was good but she had an easy volley with acres of court to hit into due to guy in blue’s poor play. Just watched it again after seeing another comment - it does look as if lady in red may have stepped on the NVZ line when she made the volley - maybe guy in blue's third shot drop was not so bad after all 😃

1. No. It wasn't "great" pickleball. 2. Neither player on the far side team had good ... footwork, movement or positioning. Blue Shirt was often moving while hitting / poorly located on the court / choosing the wrong shot. White Shirt had lazy feet and (as you pointed out, Rory) NO ready position. 3. The near court team was good. Red Shirt had unorthodox strokes ... but she was competent with them. (Reminds me of a friend I play with; his strokes are anything but textbook, but he can do what he wants with the ball.)
