Pickup Comparison: Aguilar 4P-60 Pickups vs Fender Pickups

In this video, I do a comparison of the Aguilar 4P-60 P-bass pickups to the stock pickups of my 2003 MIM Fender P-bass. I made this video because when I was looking into buying the AG 4P-60s I noticed there were no videos that really compared the sound of these to standard Fender pickups (particularly mid-level pups) and thought that maybe it could help others make a decision on whether or not they wanted to buy them.
I just used them at a gig last night (3/6/21) and really loved how they sounded in the mix as well. Super clear and full, with no lack of low-end.

Thank you for the comparison. It convinced mt to not get the Aguilar. To me the Fender are way better. Now to find a pickup that will give me that sound.

The Aguilars gives the P bass more low end than the originals. My current stock Fender pickups sound woofy so I'm definitely going with the Aguilars!

Nice video. Sounds to me like the Aguilar pickups have a greater mid-range where the original is somewhat heavier on the bass end. Personally, I prefer the Aguilar.

That was a really nice comparison, man! To be honest, I like them both. The original ones sound more appropriate for Motown-ish stuff, for its low-mids, but the Aguilar sounds more balanced and would cope better with a wider range of situations, like playing Rock with a pick or on a slap situation with a paired J on the bridge. (This is actually what I have in one of my basses - one 5J-HC and a 5P-60 - and it sounds amazing.)

One thing that you did really well, where many other comparison videos fail, is that you presented the comparison for each situation at a time. For example, each pickup at a time with clean DI signal first, then each pickup at a time with amp pre-EQ etc. Many videos put all situations with one option, then all situations with the other option, and this makes comparing the options much harder as we end up needing to jump between different parts of the video to listen to how the choices really compare in specific situations. An even better thing to do, IMO, on a future comparison, would be to talk a bit about all the settings that would be used, and then present them all without talking in the middle, and instead showing each option with text over the video, perhaps with 2 or 3 passes for each situation. This would remove any distractions from the comparison. Cheers!
