As someone in recovery from an eating disorder, I wanted to say THANK YOU for a nutrition video that doesn't demonize different foods!! My heart sank when I heard you mention fast and slow absorbtion carbs, but then I realized you were looking at it as "these different foods have different nutritional purposes" and I couldn't have been happier to hear it! Overview: 1) Eating time consistency in linked to sleep cycle 2) Eating the breakfast might help us be more energized (Also linked to good sleep) 3) More protein consumption is linked to better sleep (But not overdose which could backfire) 4) quick digesting carbs (simple carbs) help us fall sleepy earlier, so a meal could be planned accordingly 5) Slow digesting carbs are also high in fiber which help in slow and steady release of energy trough the day 6) vitamin deficiency could impact sleep 7) Banana + almond butter make up for a great sleep meal 8)Caffeine takes 8 hours to get out of our system, so consume caffeine 8 hours before sleep 9)Not being hydrated could be one of the key reasons for feeling tired very often (Could place a cup by table as a reminder or flavor for making it easy to hydrate) 10)Effect of Fat, Salt etc.. on sleep and a lot more info about this topic in general available on the link in the description.

Wow this video and ur blog was so well-written and researched! So eye-opening and inclusive of different lifestyles while encouraging small changes! Love how you didn't say coffee is bad, just limit it near bedtime. Vitamins aren't bad, but strive to get it in food. White rice isn't bad, it just digests quicker. Animal protein isn't bad, it just doesn't promote sleep as well as plant protein options etc etc! This is the way to educate people!!!

As a student training to become a registered dietitian, I appreciate that you actually collaborated with a dietitian on this video, and it also shows. You don't highlight 'superfoods' because there is no such thing, and you focus on research based evidence that relates the balanced macronutrient (food) diet, and other life habits with systematic physiological changes instead of singular mechanisms that are alone not responsible for the outcomes. One of the big reasons I'm going into this field is because bloggers and non experts are everywhere telling people things they just don't understand and it harms people's view of food. This was so much more useful than a majority of what's out there. Basically, thank you for responsibly making this video!

Would really love to hear more about scientific explanations/facts on the impact of eating sugars & sweets in the night as well, because I realized how the reason I couldn't sleep as a kid and teenager was often that I ate a lot of sugar really late which also makes us more awake and stimulates our brain like caffeine. Please explore iodine deficiency and thyroid function for vegans. Over the last decade or two it's become fashionable in the wellness community to use pink salt or sea salt or kosher salt as opposed to table salt which means that vegans are only getting iodine from sea vegetables and dietary supplements. I realized recently that I have no natural sources of iodine in my daily diet since it's just not practical where I live to eat seaweed daily. Iodine is necessary for thyroid function and low thyroid function can cause fatigue as well as a whole host of problems with depression, raised cholesterol, hypertension, and more.

and to top it off, a lot of foods are eliminated for thyroid sufferers. i take them anyway but would like to know if theres an alternative diet .

@@alwoo5645 eggs are not vegan. The discussion here is about a vegan diet. There are plenty of non-vegan sources of iodine.

I find meal prep help me a lot. Having chicken breasts cooked and frozen, as well as other things, do really make a difference. I'm exhausted at the end of the day, cooking and thinking about what to cook is the last thing I want to do. I tend to forget to include solid protein in my meals otherwise. It's a compromise with your body. Listen to it, care for it, love it. And it'll do the same.

Dear Sadia, as a psychologist I have to say, that there are several problems with the way the studies are presented here. You mostly talk about correlations like "people who eat breakfast tend to sleep better than people who skip breakfast". It's important to note that correlation doesn't equal causality. There could be other explanations for this effect. For example a depression could lead to bad sleep quality and skipping breakfast at the same time. You could instead look for experimental studies, which allow causal assumptions. For Example: 20 persons with bad sleep quality are instructed to eat a certain type of breakfast each morning for one month. The researchers measure the sleep quality before and after and if it improved you can say, that ratings breakfast improves sleep quality.
