You nailed it Tim, majority of people simply don’t understand how any of it works. Hell, I’ve worked at the dealership and some of them don’t understand how it works. The main take away is that dealerships DON’T do things that lose money. They have processes in place and they follow them strictly, some better than others.

When the manufacturer ships a vehicle, it is considered "sold" by them then it sits on the dealer lot. The dealer may finance it through floor plan, but it is still theirs. They don't get to send back the ones they can't sell.
@conduit24217 күн бұрын
Be careful, legally sold and “considered sold” are not the same. When you buy a new vehicle, the lien is cleared from the manufacturer NOT the dealership because of floor plan arrangements. If it was legally sold, this would be reflected on the Carfax DMV data.
@kevinberta874117 күн бұрын
@@conduit242 That's why I put "sold" as it is not titled but the manufacturer takes credit once it leaves their lot. This is why they are willing to let dealers build up such a large inventory.

Inventory on lots and sales volumes are two different things. A full lot might be caused by an increase in production or declining sales. Based on sales volume increases being reported lots must be filling because of increased supply from factories. Better than Covid days when factories were shutdown.
@thomasharrison89917 күн бұрын
Before covid interest rates where historically low, now they are much higher and the carry costs are much higher. Not saying they are doomed just that it costs significantly more now to have a lot of vehicles in inventory.
@Pickuptrucktalk17 күн бұрын
That’s a great point.
@voxel99917 күн бұрын
This. Flooring plan costs are much higher these days then during the "zero-interest" rate era. Also... carmakers are cranking out vehicles that exceeds supply. Look at Broncos, Tacomas, Tundras.
@Dusdaddy15 күн бұрын
True, but because of those same higher interest rates, the dealers are making more profit from financing to offset that.
@mattbrew1118 күн бұрын

You forgot that the corporations exist to screw the consumers not to make their lives easier. As soon as you walk to the dealer, you're their family member. BUT as soon as you buy the car, they don't even answer your questions about the car you bought a couple of minutes ago; especially their finance departments.
@steveg697817 күн бұрын
A manufacturer car is considered "sold" when it is legally transferred to a dealership, meaning the title is officially transferred to the dealership, even though the car may not be sold to a consumer. My Honda dealer has over 300 cars and Suv's.....thats the most since 2018. National inventory is a good gauge. Some car companies are managing inventory well, GM is an example. Ford and Dodge, not so much. My friend I just negotiated a very good year end deal from Honda. 1000.00 below invoice.

Tim, great channel- keep up the good work. For this particular video you are trying to simplify a complex issue. Its better to be more specific with your explanations. For example- is it “ good or bad” for who? The manufacturer? The dealerships? The consumer? The answer is different for each. I also think you are under estimating the impact of dealer floor plan costs. Discounts and incentives are part of the story behind the relatively strong sales figures. I don’t think you gave this enough focus. You mentioned you’re getting 10k off a purchase, yet they are still making a “ profit” True but it’s more complex.
@aristotlejb8216 күн бұрын
There is also the fact of incentives and offers. In Dec RAM was running a near 0% factor on RAM 1500s lease. Ford still has a special for 1.9% on F-150 for 60 months. And Toyota is Toyota, they are like Apple of the Car Industry, you have Toyota Loyalist who will continue to buy Toyota.

Great video - as usual! The people making these reaction videos just want views and negative viewpoints are always the most watched - it's the worst thing that's happened to this medium. They are no experts - just overreactive people who see lots stacked with vehicles they think looks like too many, they will make a reaction video. Anyone who has been watching the industry for years before Covid knows that dealers love to build stock on vehicles so they can swap/trade with other dealers, complain to the manufacturers that nothing is selling and beg for incentives, lower interest rates etc. It's also seasonal - times of the year when certain vehicles always sell. Trucks are perennial sellers so they are ideal profit centers with the highest profit factor in the automotive industry. AND dealers will usually fill up the front lots to make it appear they have a high level of available stock - so people are more likely to stop and see if they can get a deal. It's all a poker game and the dealers always wins - particularly with these video reactionists who fall for it all the time and drive people to the showrooms. If the dealers were worried, they will have huge signage and painted windows on the dealership - that's when you should consider walking into the showroom...

When you go to a dealer and buy a vehicle do you ever get to go home with it same day like goods at Walmart? Even with lots of inventory you never get the vehicle the same day you buy it. Lower the inventory and associated carrying costs and have vehicles for me to demo and I will order and wait if it means better prices due to lower carrying costs.

Been a subscriber since you had 1000 subs. You can’t handle Car Edge data, which is a website, not a “channel”? Time on lot is not “good”. You’re being defensive and you’ve been bamboozled by floor pricing financed deliveries being considered a “sale” by automakers. It is not a sale. A legal SALE is a transfer of ownership recorded by the DMV, not financing under a lien to a dealership. If that was the case, the sale would be on the Carfax DMV data. So it is the FLOW of vehicles actually being legally sold that measures success of automakers, not these self-reported “sales” while they stack up dealership lots as a queue. P.S. Untamed Motors is in WYOMING not Nebraska 🤣

Exactly! Was just at a Ford dealership on Thursday and bought a 2024 Ranger Raptor. They have 150 F150's, as well as 50 Bronco's. Dodge has 2023's still on the lot? Never going to sell those! The freaking lot's are over flowing. That has never happened before. Most people can't afford to buy the majority of vehicles being produced. Repo's at record levels, etc.
