Really nice rear AC vents in the crew cab there. Far larger than competitors vents and they are actually directed at the passengers

Love that you hit Payload twice in this video. Most people don't get that payload is the limiting factor on these trucks for towing/hauling.
@toddbunnett640

The payload on any ram trim level above the rebel isn’t great. I don’t think any of them are over 1800 lbs. That being said, the average dude isn’t coming close to this, and anyone who does a lot of towing with heavy trailers probably has a load distributing hitch so it’s not eating up a ton of payload.
@hellkitty1014
@hellkitty1014 4 жыл бұрын
For all of those that are unaware of why the payload is low on this particular trim: Not only is this truck heavily optioned(and air suspension models have lower payloads in general), this is more softly sprung off-road Rebel, thus lowering its payload rating. Look at a Raptor, Tundra TRD Pro, etc and they don't have huge capacities either. And most pick-up owners groceries and trips to the mall are the payload these days...soo...🙄

This is trade off for most RAM 1500's and 2500 models, not this severe but the average is lower than GM and Ford. I had a co-worker trade his RAM 2500 with the coil rear springs for a RAM 3500 with leaf rear springs because he ran out of payload to tow his fifth wheel RV camper. The GMC AT4 and Chevrolet Trail Boss do not suffer payload loss and they are just as capable if not more so as offroad trucks in this Rebels targeted segment. To get the ride quality they wanted RAM has opted for this tradeoff due to the coil springs/air ride setup weighing more than traditional rear leaf springs.
@hellkitty1014
@hellkitty1014 4 жыл бұрын
@@rlhmarines Trailboss/AT4 are definitely not "more capable" than a Ram Rebel, given that GMs G80 locker is not anywhere close in performance as the true locker on a Rebel. I do agree that the spring setup on Ram trucks concede high payload capacities in most trims, but lower trims are in the ballpark of most trucks. For instance, the MAX payload on a current GM half-ton truck is 2300 pounds, whereas Ram is 2200. Ford is claimed to be over 3000 on the rare as hens' teeth XL, 8ft bed, 3.3L V6. The same is true for the 2500 class, and Ram is generally very competitive in the 3500 class, particularly dually with the helper air-springs, which give unsurpassed towing confidence.(the truck will always be level).

This has been my criticism of ALL of the factory trim extreme off road trucks be it the Raptor, the TRX, Tacoma TRD PRO. They suffer reduced payload capacity to the point where you almost can’t take anything with you. He said this truck has 1,000 lb payload capacity. That’s worthless. Real world example: you’re going off road to go camping with three friends. You each weigh about 175 lbs. That’s 700 lbs right there. 33 gallons of gas at 7lbs a gallon is another 231lbs. Now you’ve at 931 lbs. so four guys are going to go off-road camping in a great off-road truck, and they only have enough payload capacity to carry 69 pounds worth of gear between the four of them? For the kind of money they charge for these trucks, particularly the TRX and the raptor, it would seem they could design a truck that is both off-road, capable and payload capable to take you to these off-road destinations with equipment that you need.

I've had Cummins powered trucks for 20 years and I sell them when they hit 500,000 miles and they all have made it there easily. I am actually interested in the Ecodiesel but the Ram interior is the best interior out of all 3. I rent trucks for trips about 5 times a year and have logged thousands of miles in Ford, Ram and Chevy and Ram by far is best. The ride between all 3 is still bested by Ram. I'm glad it still sounds a little bit like a diesel. It needs a DPF delete to sound like I like it. Going to testthe drive 1 this Saturday and then to test out the Chevy I6 diesel.

Watched your video. You have a very interesting configuration. Definitely not a work heavy version. Mine is a 21 Big Horn Eco. It was $20,000 less at just under $50. So no multifunction tailgate, no rambox, none of that slotted bedliner. 8in screen instead of 12 which only means that my air is all dials. But I do get 2,000lbs payload and 10,000lbs towing 33-gallon tank. 3.92 gear ration no locking rear diff. And with the stock wheels and tires(so far). I've been able to push my gas mileage to just under 28mpg flat highway at 70mph. My wife can get almost 30mpg (straight speed limit everywhere). So configuration matters, I feel like I'm getting maximum bang for my buck with mine.

You're option list is missing the Shift On The Fly option because the 4wd knob doesn't show the 4 Auto mode. The Rebel needs a Torsen front diff, 10 speed trans, and 285/75R18 tires instead of the 275/70R18 tires. C'mon, it's a Rebel. If the Rebel was available in crew cab 6'4" bed that'd be a big plus.

Good they fitted a dipstick, in many modern cars it's an electronic device only. Wearing gloves you can always check the oil level and oil color. Hopefully they have a dipstick for the ATF too. Pricey truck, but compared to "premium" midsize SUVs it's still good value for money imo.

im with you on the rambox with 6'4" bed. my guess is that it cuts download on payload capacity too much. especially if you have the crew cab with 6'4" bed. it was the same for last gen, they had it on the 2500/3500 and the bed was the same as the 1500 back then so it shouldn't have been an issue from a manufacturing standpoint.

I mean if you opt for the 6'4" bed then you are PORBABLY going to carry typical kinds of things like plywood, bundles of materials, large items, etc and RamBox would be the last thing a work truck owner would want as it drastically slims the bed capacity.

Ya can cruise smooth and comfy with the air suspension, pano, ram boxes & 12” screen and .... or you can have some payload on a Tradesman. It was a little worse in the previous GEN RAM1500, but the options DESTROY payload on the RAM1500, and RAM did NOTHING to have a higher GVWR version of the chassis to help. Drag.

Anyone complaining about payload and heard the word eco and get disappointed should be mad at themselves not ram. Their are plenty of other trims for payload and you get the diesel still. This truck was made for style not actually using as a traditional truck. They were trying to tap into another market. People like me that didn't want to pay normal truck fuel up prices and will occasionally use the truck for minor moves. If you hear eco and think I'm gonna tow a house that's you not the makers fault.

I was shopping for a new Ecodiesel to replace my 2016 Ecodiesel. I wanted the 6'4" bed and the crewcab. I have a quadcab, wanting more room. The sunroof is a waste of money and weight capacity. All I wanted was Ecodiesel, 3.92 ratio, crewcab, heated mirrors, 6'4" bed, 4wd, but prefered 4wd auto. And rubber floor mats! Only a moron wants carpets and 4wd. Makes for a dirty moldy truck. My old truck had a sticker of $40K. I would accept up to $48k stcker. But I bought an AWD Durango GT with the tow package. I will refurbish my old truck. My wife's 2018 Ram 2500 Crewcab 4wd is great for towing trailers with that big Cummins. But it is awful on icy roads. And empty, it has an awful ride on the Interstate. I would pay the price for an Ecodiesel Powerwagon. My old Ecodiesel has 157,000 miles. But the front suspension is worn out. And most of my driving is on the Interstate. Very little offroad travel. But it is gentle travel. Have Bilstein 5100 shocks. They are excellent.

The Ultimate pickup is a Ram 2500 Crewcab Ecodiesel, 8-sp ZF, 4.10 or 4.56 ratio, 35" tires with King 2.5" dia remote reservoir shocks. A Ram 3500 Megacab with 4.56 ratio, and all the other specs would work too. Keep in mind a 1994 Dodge D250 with the 5.9L 12 valve Cummins had about 180hp and 400lb/ft torque. If Tim Conway and Bob Denver were reincarnated. Living near Scotts Bluff, NE. And reviewing vehicles. This would be their channel!

Funny story. I was at the auto show when they revealed this truck a few years ago. Back then, they had those huge letters on the back of the truck that spelled out Ram, the graphics and all the Rebel badging everywhere. I said to my colleague, "a true Rebel would take all that crap off." I chuckled, he chuckled, the group around us chuckled and here we are years later with no more big RAM letters on the truck and an all-blacked out package. LOL.

@@Pickuptrucktalk funny you should say that, I just went and looked and my wifes 2015 AWD Sienna, is 1100 lbs, lol. Tim, are you sure this specific model is 12,500 towing? there is just no way with that low of payload before the driver even gets in. the standard for towing is 10% tongue and your way over the payload rating using that.

Bitching about the price will get you no where. Compare comparable trucks across all manufacturers and you'll see they are very competitive price wise when comparing apples to apples. Build a comparatively equipped HD diesel truck with this one & you are looking north of $80,000.00 these days. They're crazy expensive for sure, but if you want to play the game, you have to pay the price of admission. Truck are the hottest thing going in the automotive industry and are selling like hot-cakes, even at these prices. The market demand is the driving factor for pricing, always has been & always will be.

@@Pickuptrucktalk Tim, Please don't take me wrong. 99% of what you said in this video was spot-on. I have a 2020 Ram longhorn ecodiesel loaded up with the air ride, so I can make the that statement. I have skin in this game!! I love my eco longhorn!! I live in the Denver area & have the 3.92 gears in mine. The best MPG's I've recorded was 31.1 for all mountain driving. But overall my mileage is pretty much what you posted in the video. Thanks for what you do!!!
