Awesome! You ever try on the other side of the island with the big pier where all the whale watch boats dock?

Cast net, much faster when they are all bunched up on top like that chilling and not swimming around in small schools in a squadron formation

Oh man this brings back some memories. 40 years ago when I had a boat up in the Eastport to Calais area I would put what we called a Christmas tree jig on to catch mackerel, pretty much a string of 6 hooks and each one had a different colored piece of plastic on it with a mackerel jig at the end for weight. When we would get into a school of squid. I would pull 4 or 5 of them in at a time and they were much bigger, most were 18 inches. Being in the boat we didn't see them swimming around and I always wondered when we hooked one if the others were trying to rescue the hooked one or eat it? I do remember the ink was horrible. It would be all over the boat and us and smell horrible. They did eat good though.

He also forgot the tentacles, but I know that some people don't love eating that part. I'm with you though, banana peppers, maybe a lemon aioli or a sweet & spicy Gochujang-based dip.

Just a tip anyone jigging squid in Maine 1.6g squid jigs work best along the docks. Definitely need to keep the jig moving jig it up and down, tease them. Leaving it still does work but I frequently catch the most by teasing the squid. Jig away from them. As they approach jig it again so they cant get a good look, they get aggressive and attack it.

Headed to Maine in two weeks ... I am gonna have to try this ... we are headed to York Beach ... do the docks have to be on the ocean itself or can they be in a bay ??? Think theres a couple but in pretty far in from the inlet... I have been to york a few times before and never much luck with anything . Usually we just toss a line in with#4 or#6 hook and a piece of squid out by the lighthouse...
