Scary how good the Pixel 4 is, very small sensor. But you can easily tell it apart from a DSLR, software can only do so much, big sensor there is no replacement for that. That Bokeh from the Sony is beautiful! I wonder what the Pixel 5 will bring next year

In particular because they were edited. Basically the only advantage would be a higher resolution. That's why a comparison with edited photos is boring. It would be basically nothing else than a megapixel comparison. If one wouldn't edit and wouldn't use manual settings, the Sony would have no chance.

I think there is no difference in infinite focus but when you shoot close objects, portrait style kinda, that added bokeh gives the pixel away. Sometimes it worked flawless but some shots you can see where its struggling, like hair, those yellow grasses. So very very fine detail. For instagram totally fine, for business... Depends on your client and what he'll/she'll be using it for.

@@williamashrafzadeh3701 the difference didn't change at all. Nowadays they just add make up for the phone cameras to hide how bad it really looks compared to a camera. Some phones make unrealistic sharp pictures because of all the "make-up" as I like to call it and destroy a lot of the footage in my opinion. Plus the phone sensor is way smaller then a camera sensor so a comparison really is=bs

@@williamashrafzadeh3701 "as cameras on phones get better" - as if DSLR and other real cameras aren't getting better?? The technology in real cameras aren't just sitting duck. As the phone cameras are improving,the real cameras are also improving. So the delta between phone cameras and real cameras isn't shrinking a bit. It's the same arguement about smartphone performance and desktop performance.
@williamashrafzadeh3701
@williamashrafzadeh3701 4 жыл бұрын
@@glorious240fps6 the tech in larger dlsr cameras aren't advancing at the same rate as phones are so the delta is shrinking (with the help of computational photography), just at a slow rate. Theres a limit to how many mpx you can have on a sensor. for example, we probably wont see a 50 mpx m4/3 anytime soon. So for now, we effectively have a plateau (for smaller formats, which should be obvious) which allows smartphones to catch up a bit. But mpx aren't everything and computational photography is helping smartphones a lot. dont get me wrong I hate automation but you cant deny how far. smartphones have come. Also the market for better cameras in smartphones is far bigger, leading to more R&D in those areas
@williamashrafzadeh3701
@williamashrafzadeh3701 4 жыл бұрын
@@petermuller5896 I agree that phones make an excessively over sharpened image and I don't like it either. However, phone sensors are tiny in comparison, so the fact that the images aren't wretched is a miracle 😂 again I agree comparing full frame to a 1/2.5" sensor is pointless though

I can clearly see the difference even with the KZbin compression, photo number 1 Sony contained way more detail and it's properly exposed, photo number two is even easier to tell the difference, look at how distorted buildings are on Pixel 4, they look like they are being bent inwards and blown away by wind at the same time. Whereas on Sony camera, the buildings do not have any distortion. It may not be enough for some to go with a camera, but that makes the whole difference to photographers. Plus, people forget all the time, photographers do not buy professional cameras just for the image quality, they buy them for reliability, functions, and versatility when it comes to lenses. Cameras are real workhorses, they almost never fail, and they deliver in all kinds of weather conditions, they are the AK-47s in photography world. Whereas a smartphone is the jack of all trades but master of none, sometimes images look good, sometimes they don't and if l tried to use my smartphone as a camera it wouldn't be able to keep up with my needs, not to mention the fake bokeh it creates with its stupid software, whereas cameras create buttery smooth bokeh with lenses.

Comparisons between pro cameras and phones on youtube pretty much look like racing between a sport car, let's say porsche 911 and some budget family car like toyota corolla, but with speed limiter on a porsche to match the speed of a toyota. If you want fair comparison you need to pull out the maximum out of both devices, make long exposure shot of that lake, shot portrait with 85 1.4, do a macro shot with dedicated macro lens, do a moon shot with telephoto.... don't just do random snap shots and call it a day.

Pixel depth, sensor size, RAW files, fine tune camera controls, and lens options obviously make APS or full frame cameras better. Is the portrait photography Pixel vs DSLR comparison coming out?? Loved this review!! I think Pixel 4 did an equally good job as DSLR and I couldn't tell which is which for the life of me. Except the leaf of the water shot benefited very much from the blur on Sony. That said, the shot with grass in the foreground benefited from less blur on Pixel shot (because on Sony the foreground grass just turned into a blob).

Smartphones are never going to beat out cameras. Wide angle photos in broad daylight won't look much different, but when it comes to low light and zoom the camera will always out on top. Smartphone sensors have to be tiny so they're terrible in low light. And of course digital zoom is no match for optical zoom.

Come on, this movie is total bullshit. Comparing images that are maybe 300px wide on compressed YT movie :P You don't really need to mention low light situations, it's enough that poor smartphone will get into shade and its ISO hits 400 or 800 and then NR brings doom to these matrices and image detail. Photos from phones are good when viewed on their own displays. I wonder if people who watch videos like this also find themselves comparing 40W bulb to 500W halogen :P

Really? I feel that canon is greenish. Sony has kind of over saturated blues in my experience with the two camera systems.

Comparing a phone and a pro camera is really exaggerated. Any well trained photographer would pick anything with glass and sensor and capabilities to take picture and still make great picture anyway. I’m tired of people keep comparing picture from a phone vs a camera because it’s very different kind of technology with various pros and cons which cannot be compare together.

Right now the only advantage of the camera is the depth of field, with good eye you can take similar picture with the smartphone, with the camera you can editing at the max level. Another thing, you can't notice the difference between camera and smartphone in physical pictures 3" X 7" you can't notice the difference up to the size 4' X 3' (poster)..... Is hard to admit but... That's the reality.

Pierre T. Lambert at second glance it was easier especially with pics of more depth of field. Other than that, computational photography can be eye to eye with real cameras especially with wide lenses in the future
@Quoutub
@Quoutub 5 жыл бұрын
Why shocking? You could get theoretically the same result with nearly all(!) phones/cameras that can shoot in raw. In good light conditions without a high dynamic range of the scene the noise is mostly random, therefore even the raw files of small cameras without any computational photography wouldn't look noisy if you don't pixel peep. Therefore you can get the same look when you edit the photos. Sensor size has basically no effect on the "look", it depends mainly on image processing.
