I went from intermittent fasting (usually eating one or two big meals in a small time window) to eating 5 meals spaced out every 3 hours. Would this change allow me to recomp? That is build muscle while losing fat?

One thing you could've incorporated is a 5-10min semi fast walk after eating for nutrient absorption and glucose management, couldn't imagine eating more than 2 meals a day without implementing that, also why didn't you just reheat the food in the same compartment to not eat it cold

I think this experiment made one of the most obvious improvements out of all your experiments (especially for only 7 days duration). In terms of managing it using stews and thick soups would probably help as well because they don't suffer from reheating as much and can easily be spread out over 2-3 days. After all 3-4 meals is also a rhythm many societies naturally gravitate towards.

I prefer 1-2 meals per day. I've been trying to eat 3 meals per day to spread out my protein but it's difficult. I'd MUCH rather eat 1 or 2 HUGE meals per day as I feel better/more satiated and more energetic. I also by far got my most hench and jacked by eating 2 meals per day (near the end of the day) vs eating more often. Also, hidden benefit is that eating fewer meals per day is much better for dental health (prob why I've never had a cavity in my life despite less than ideal dental hygeine (I never floss)).

Back in the day when gaining like 30 pounds of muscle in like 3 months bodybuilders had to eat 6-7 meals because growth hormones and insulin injections. If they don't eat their blood sugar would crash and push the nutrients into the muscle. Too low could mean death.

I like this thought experiment, very entertaining. However, the research to date is pretty clear, protein does not damage the kidneys of healthy individuals - even in very high doses. But, I would say, we don't need more than 1g per lb of bodyweight, it's more like 0.7-1g per lb of bodyweight. It's better to get the extra calories in the form of carbs, which we can use for fuel.

if you decide for a redo, change the portion sizes to soup cup size and if you're going for 4am wakeup and 9:30pm bedtime, change it to a meal every 3 hours starting at 5:30am and ending at 8:30pm ( which means 6 meals per day) and vary the dishes!! bulk prepping a week or so (or more) in advance is good and don't be afraid of higher protein bagels or other ideas for breakfasts. in the plate sizes near the end of the video i would go for maybe almost half that amount to rephrase what i meant by soup bowl size

Personally I think 4 meals a day is the sweet spot. Most of the hyper anabolic benefits without being too too much eating and cooking. Also, I’d recommend lowering fats down to about 20 percent or less, and increasing carbs to 50 percent or more. And of course protein a gram per pound or more. All those carbs will swell the muscles extremely well 👌🏼

I always get a kick out of the term "clean" - there is no such thing. There seems to be no definition for "clean". Does it mean low fat because I'd consider a keto diet to be clean. Does it mean "no processed foods"? I'd say "no" because white rice has the same nutrient profile as table sugar (rice has no nutrients aside from carbs and is processed about as fast as sugar. A bowl of cereal has more nutrients than a bowl of rice (even a pop tart has more nutrients and is more satiating than a bowl of rice). I always laughed at bodybuilders on a diet eating rice which has no nutrients aside from sugars and has almost 0 satiety effect... it's basically the worst food to eat on a diet, as opposed to say potatoes which is probably the BEST, most nutrient dense, satiating carb source on the planet... and tastes better too). As somebody who has spent a lifetime studying nutrition, and working with hundreds of bodybuilders (and dated a fitness competitor) the whole 5 -7 meals thing is ridiculous. Much like you I feel sluggish if I'm eating before my workouts and my energy collapses about half way through but I feel almost endless energy if I train fasted in the AM. We have enough energy in our system to run multiple marathons (heck one guy fasted for over 1 year and didn't die). I talk to so many bodybuilders who can't go a few hours without feeling like their "blood sugar is crashing" because they've trained their bodies to eat so often (which is ridiculous because for most of mankind's history we would have been lucky to eat 7 meals a week let alone 7 meals a day). As for protein, the largest/longest protein study of its kind showed that even eating 3g/lb of protein for long, extended periods has 0 detrimental effect on healthy kidneys and in fact showed a very slight IMPROVEMENT to kidney health. As for Glycine... there is no need to add a supplement to "protect" from high protein diets because guess what.... glycine is a protein (amino acid). The more protein you eat, the more glycine you ingest. And as far as anabolism regarding protein meals etc, if you eat too often research has showed that you won't get the same anabolic spike from a bolus of protein (20g+). In order to maximize muscle protein synthesis, you need at ideally 3+ hours between protein meals of 20g or more to reset. This may not make a huge difference overall (same with eating 1-2 meals a day) but eating every 1-2 hours is not optimal for muscle protein synthesis. Also, hidden benefit of fewer meals is that it's MUCH better for dental health. I have always tended toward 1-2 meals pers day my entire adult life. I don't floss, brush only when I wake up (or going to be around other people) and I've never had a cavity ever and my dentist tells me I "must have the best dental hygiene he's ever seen". The more times you eat per day, the more wear on your teeth exceeds the remineralization of the enamel. Your eating habits (amount of time eating per day) will affect your teeth significantly more than how well you brush and floss.
