Note also that Japanese "Electric Shock" is translated as "Thundershock" in the Pokemon games (28:24), but as "Thunder Jolt" in both the cards and SSBB. Maybe it's two mistranslations and is just a coincidence? Also, "Shadow Duplication" is a WAAAAYYYY better name than Double Team.

I have videos that showcase all of those moves that Pikachu could learn via level-up in Diamond (with the exception of Thunder since I kept Discharge mainly for doubles purposes) early in my Pikachu solo run. I do not have videos of Pikachu showcasing Thunder at all. See especially parts like 2.5 where I showcase Slam, and 1.6 where I showcase Volt Tackle.

yo CCD: an interesting theory that i have for Volt Tackle is that the "Recoil", so to speak, could be the fact that since the attack can stop anywhere, Pikachu has a very good percentage of a self destruct

@link7122000 yes, that pikachu knew surf. a pikachu from pokemon yellow special pikachu version may learn surf if the player knows what to do. From what I remember it involves using pokemon stadium and having pokemon yellow while winning a certain cup with pikachu participating in every battle. Something like that anyway.
@LexiBelleGaming14 жыл бұрын
Another thing to note would be if you imported your yellow version starter Pikachu into Pokemon Stadium it would say its name during certain attacks. It might be the same case with Stadium 2 I'm not sure.

Honestly i still find the volt tackle thing a stretch, but looking at the evidence very possible :) I would never have figured volt tackle was a reference to another anime and game. I also have to apologize to my friends. I've been ranting that volt tackle in brawl doesnt match volt tackle in game, as cool as it was, but that was before i even saw volt tackle performed on Emerald. woops o-o lol. i was more basing it off of the anime XD Great vid btw :D very interesting.

When you started explaining the origin of Volt Tackle's name, I was thinking "What does Tekkaman Blade have to do with Pokémon?" Then I remembered, "Vol Tekka" sounding somewhat similar, but then I thought "Nah, I don't think so." That was until you got to Pulseman; the way the move looks, the name (In Japanese), and the fact that it was developed by Game Freak. That made an even bigger connection making me think "Okay, that actually makes perfect sense!"

Whenever I read slam's description, I always assumed it meant that the Pokemon lifted the opponent into the air with their tail, vine, ect. then actually slammed them. I mean, look at Dragonair, how much could that thing really hurt throwing itself at you like giant noodle. However if that same Dragonair were to wrap it's tail around your throat and slam you against walls, that might hurt. In any event, the Nintendo Power Guide for Melee has Pikachu's smash attack listed as Thunder Shock.

Hmmm... when you showed us the gameplay of Pulseman, it looked that you had some problems to go fast and charge electricity. Here's an useful tip: press left or right twice to perform a speed warp. It makes Pulseman to move fast (like Pikachu's Quick Attack) and charge electricity. Next time you play, try that trick if there's not much space to run.

My Pokemon Red rom is perfectly A-OK, even if I saw a few glitches- and yes, I caught Missingno. Yet it still knows the difference between "doesn't effect" and "miss". If it says "doesn't effect", you have a type matchup problem. If it says "miss", either the opponent is hiding behind a high Evasion or your pokemon is blinded by a low Accuracy.

@CrappyCaptureDevice Rattata's a normal type. After the in-depth analysis, I'm a bit surprised you'd make a simple mistake like that. My only guess is that the attack missed (100% accurate moves in RBY only have 99.6% accuracy due to programming oversight), but it usually says "attack missed!" Did you have codes on? @CinnaSwirls10 жыл бұрын
Yes, I love this video. So in depth. I personally wish they made Pikachu behave more accurately to the games, carrying over defense increase while charging Skull Bask and making Volt Tackle more accurate and giving it recoil damage would make me happy. Although if it were a straight tackle, similar to Marth's Critical Hit final smash, it would be even more likely to miss. Farther more, 100% accuracy attacks can still miss on occasion. Take Swift for example. It never misses and instead of 100%, the accuracy of the move is blank. Therefore if they would just add recoil damage it could be more accurate. However, players may not like a final smash that damages them. I can understand why the recoil damage was not included. I can also understand if carrying over the defense turn of Skull Bash is too difficult or impossible. In my opinion though, the only reason Pikachu still has Thunder Jolt is because he had it since the first game. There's Discharge, Electro Ball, Nuzzle, Charge Beam, and more to choose from nowadays that would work for Smash Bros. 4, but they keep Thunder Jolt in because he has always had it in smash, and it displeases me.

I know you probably don't want to borrow too much from the anime but really Pikachu has Thunder, Quick Attack, Headbutt, and Volt Tackle in the anime. Shouldn't you of compared those as well (Volt Tackle's anime was only shown for a second to compare the name). Since really some moves (espiecally thunder) do look like they were either sort of used for Smash Brothers or you could draw comparsions to them aka the whole point of the project.

Mainly because they can only use a certain amount of set moves. You have done well to find these. This must have taken a ton of research to do.
