Regarding Joel not hearing the intruders: Ellie mentioned he doesn't hear well from his right ear. Throughout the series he usually sleeps on his right side, leaving his good ear exposed. In this scene when he wakes up, he's on his left side, meaning his good ear was covered. Also, he didn't sleep the night before because he stood guard over Ellie all night. He's been awake for two days before finally sleeping here, so he was more exhausted than normal.

Perry, Kathleen's right-hand man, is Tommy's voice actor in the game. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who were in the game Ellie and Joel's voices, also get appearances on the show. The actress of Marlene, the leader of the Fireflys, plays the same role here as in the game. Ellie said in the second episode that she is 14 years old. You don't sleep in the car, because then you don't hear anyone coming and you have absolutely no chance to defend yourself or escape. QZ is quarantine zone. Joel talks to Ellie about hurting people, not killing people. Then Ellie says it was not her first time. So it is not said that she has already killed anyone. Joel told Ellie in the stairwell that he was on both sides with Tess and Tommy. So Tommy didn't just leave Joel for the Fireflys because Marlene recruited him, but because nothing good came out of robbing and killing innocent people. Joel portrays Tommy all the time as if Tommy needs him. In fact, Tommy knows exactly what he wants and where he can't find it. So the Fireflys also disappointed him. He didn't do any good with them either. Joel always says Tommy needs him. In fact, Joel seems to need him more than the other way around.
