Here’s what happened: The plane’s windshield washer used liquid which is flammable. When the liquid leaked from the washer, the fire erupted in the cockpit. The fire burned the two pilots and the two passengers during the flight. Despite being burned, the pilots managed to crash land the plane rather than letting it crash fatally. The people who got severely burned still survived miraculously. 11 people made out of the plane alive, but one did not sadly. Survivors described the inside of the plane during the fire as “flaming river.” The fire was so hot that it melted the pilots’ headphones.

On February 21, 1982, the de Havilland Canada DHC-6-100 operating the flight made a forced landing on the frozen Scituate Reservoir near Providence, Rhode Island after a fire erupted in the cockpit and cabin due to leakage of flammable windshield washer/deicer fluid. It’s incredible how the pilots managed to get it on the ground quickly as possible in just 6 minutes even the investigators was stunned by their actions in a burning aircraft it’s insane how they did it in such quick time

This another plane crash almost nobody knew of, but Air Crash Investigation decided to introduce it to the whole world. There’s not even one picture of this plane after the crash on internet. Or maybe there is at least one, but it’s extremely obscure.

It’s so surprising that this accident is almost unheard of considering the fact the pilots managed to keep control of the plane and get it to the ground whilst literally being burned alive. Just watched the full ACI episode, the crew and the off duty pilot were truly heroic and persistent in their efforts despite all the odds for survival being stacked against them.

The Scituate Reservoir was frozen up to a foot thick, hence the Twin Otter was able to make an emergency landing. RIP to the sole victim

Those pilots manage to do what for example the crew of Swissair Flight 111 couldn´t accomplish: Made a succesful emergency landing with the cockpit on fire. Yeah, i know that Swissair 111 was over the ocean and a landing there could be a disaster in a lot of ways but a fire in the cockpit is equally dangreous no matter the place where the plane is. I was surprised to know that the crew and one of the passengers open or broke some windows to get rid of come of the smoke. I only heard about something similar in the case of South African Airways Flight 295 but that flight also crash into the ocean.
