Stan lee said it himself. Dr Doom isn’t Evil, he just wants to rule the world. Dr Doom believes the universe needs to change, and more importantly, he believes he’s the only on capable of doing so. Or more accurately, he believes Reed Richards is the only one capable of doing so. He hates and resents Reed, not because he’s smarter then him, but because he’s smarter then him, but refuses to do what needs to be done to better humanity. Thus Doom needs to prove to himself, that he’s better then Reed, so that he can be the one to change the world, since Reed himself won’t do it. Almost every single time doom has won, humanity was better off for it.

Great video and character analysis, as always!

Are we talking about the same Doom that got outsmarted completely, embarrassed and beaten by Bruce Banner in his own lair...with Bruce wearing just street clothes along with his Banner tech inventions, when Doom wondered how brilliant Banner was...that Dr Doom?The same Doom ( an army of Dr dooms from different realities) that was thoroughly humiliated by the council of Reeds based on how predictable he is ? The same Doom in which numerous simulations ran by Reed Richards demonstrated that Blue marvel was smarter than Doom? Let's not get carried away by the hype 😂.

@@kcopara1 Yeah it's funny how writing works sometimes, eh? Bad guys are usually outsmarting the good guys until that crucial moment the story has to end and the writers reveal that the good guy was two steps ahead the whole time. It's inevitable I suppose, villains have to be smart, powerful and compelling to help drive the story forward, but we still want the heroes to win, at least most of the time, or eventually. So it makes sense in all of those examples you gave how Doom lost, was outsmarted, beaten and embarrassed. Though none of those facts negate my own, they simply are also facts about him. In the original Heroes Reborn saga, Dr. Doom was literally the only reason the heroes beat Galactus and saved the Earth. That was a fun portrayal of Doom....
@thorinhannahs46142 жыл бұрын
The problem with adapting Dr. Doom is that outside of his early writing he is not a straightforward villain. Usually the heroes are only as good as their villains, with Doom you come away knowing none of the heroes are as good as Doom. Which is why this adaptation works, the avengers can't hold a candle to him and he doesn't even care.
@christopherauzenne502310 ай бұрын
I personally think the main problem when it comes to adapting him is that they all try to make the story, and in turn him, grounded when he can only truly shine if you let that "grounded = better" mentality go and embrace theatrics/outlandish. As big a part the fantastic four are to superheroes it is way more accurate to compare them to flash gordon, indiana jones or johnny quest (the 1950s serial scifi adventurers) and doom is the epitome of that kind of villain (a super genius whose hideously deformed who took over/rules a country and has plans for world conquest and with an ego that's only matched by the sheer shit he CAN do... also his sir name is literally DOOM). if you try to ground that character then you he feels outlandish and "there's no way that guy can exist in real life" and thats correct, he is a character that exists and thrives in the fantastical

He's not a cosmic, impossibly powerful, and/or impossibly incomprehensible evil malign power. He's a megalomaniac, a tyrant, a super rich bad dude, strong and powerful and magical of course. But he's so much more. Ultimately he's so dangerous because...he is simply a winner. He is one of those ultimate elite types. He doesn't make mistakes. He doesn't miss out things. He is never outplayed. He can handle anything, including triumphing over said cosmic incomprehensible powers. He doesn't even come in unless he knows he's already won. The fact that this show managed to adapt Doctor Doom so perfectly in less than 20 minutes than multimillion dollar projects and studios failed to do in more than an hour shows how much these creators cared and respected the source material I’ll be honest, I haven’t read a lot about Doctor Doom but ironically he’s still one one my favourite comic book supervillains and this show was the one to introduce me to him, it showed me how arrogant, powerful and egocentric he is and how little of an effort he needs to take down two superhero teams single-handedly. It was “show, don’t tell” put perfectly, it shows Doctor Doom is as strong as he is intelligent, it shows he isn’t a common criminal committing crimes for the fun of it, he has a genuine and in his own twisted way, moral reason of why he does what he does. He does things that only benefit himself and Black Panther was right about that, he was desperate to find out if The Earth has been invaded because he would’ve faced Sue Storms Skrull before this episode and noticed something was off about her and he was right. He only helped Tony because if the Skrulls took over there would be no Earth or Universe for him to conquer. Whilst I didn't read a lot of Marvel comics as a young child, I was more into the cartoons and live-action films that were coming out in the early 2000's, but even back then Doctor Doom was always THE definitive Marvel villain to me, and in recent years I've come to feel that he still is. To me if he were in the MCU they'd need to do a few things to get him right: The idea of him being a seemingly unstoppable threat initially, that over time comes to be an ever-present and integral part of the MCU, but also never goes to such extreme lengths to where he'd be on the radar in the same way Ultron or Thanos were. That moment in the comics when he gained the powers of a god and was literally unstoppable, only for him to cast his power aside claiming it to be 'beneath him' and just going back to Latveria would be an amazing ending to an MCU film, and is probably as far as they should go I feel in terms of scale with him. I feel he should last multiple phases of the MCU in a similar vein to Loki, but after a fair few appearances early on in a couple Fantastic 4 and Avengers films, give him less but more varied appearances in each phase after that, that alone I feel would keep him interesting without him overstaying his welcome or becoming uninteresting. Plus unlike Loki who really only left a lasting impact in the first Avengers film then was beaten and back to solely a Thor character, Doom I feel should never truly be off the table as a threat and shouldn't be beaten, or at least not until his final appearance, at most his plans on occasion would be foiled. I also feel they should establish him over time as being a necessary evil in a sense, given his 'rule the world' motive being shown to mean he has genuine care for the earth, showing him use his skills to partake in actions that for any other villain would be seen as a redemption arc whilst also being completely in line with his character would also illustrate his wider importance, cementing a simple motive resulting in a complex villain. He's also amazingly skilled with both technology and sorcery, which is an idea we've never seen in the MCU and could result in some really interesting dynamics between certain characters. I'd LOVE to see how he and Doctor Strange would interact since they've worked together on occasions in the comics, heck I'd take a whole film based on the comic where he and Strange go to hell to save his mother's soul. A lot of these aspects, in fact I dare say all of them were covered in EMH in some way, and once again you did a fantastic job illustrating and explaining them. The only thing I think the MCU could do better is simply due to the benefit of potentially more screen time. Seeing him in Latveria and showing why his people love him would go a long way to present the idea that maybe he could successfully rule the world. Him being the ideal ruler could become the next 'Thanos was right' within the fandom and maybe even within the MCU itself. On top of all of that I feel he could hold up his own film if they wanted to do his origin from childhood to becoming ruler of Latveria, which I feel would work not as his introduction to the MCU, but maybe after his first appearance as a villain in a Fantastic 4 film. Sure it wouldn't be a fun for the whole family type of MCU film, it would probably more closely resemble Joker than any other comic book film as it wouldn't be a secret anti-hero story involving him fighting some other villain at the end, but for a character who was the undisputed main Marvel villain for decades, I think having him be the first MCU villain to get a solo film would really hammer the point home that he's a big deal. Honestly that last bit is wishful thinking, as cool and unique as that film could be I doubt the MCU would ever make it given it would probably lack in action for a lot of it.

Doom was definitely adapted excellently. The only villain that I think was not only adapted better but made changes from the classic comic origins that fleshed (no pun intended) out the character in interesting ways, was Ultron.
@mrmarvel93092 жыл бұрын
I've often seen Doctor Doom as one of the biggest terrestrial threats in the marvel universe. Though at the same time he'd happily save the world if the heroes begged him to help. He thinks he's the smartest person on the planet and that it's his way or no way, so the reason he wants to rule the world is because he thinks he's the best person for the job. Something that is shown in Latveria where most of the people love living under his rule (there's still a resistance against him). I loved this version of Dr Doom as well as the one from Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

So... I'll admit. I haven't read the comics. I've just been researching him because he seems fascinating.... That said. Hearing about this just rubs me the wrong way. Wasn't this story, and a few others where he did HORRIBLE things written by one writer? Mark Wade or something? I dunno.... I just feel like they went tryhard with that. The way he talked about Valeria, AND the fact he named Susan's kid after her. On top of that, he saved his mother from Hell.... Why would he send another person he loves there? (And in a, again, tryhard way. "Oh she burns up in gory detail for multiple pages wooooo aren't we so edgy?") Like... I dunno. Just feels like character assassination. And I HATE that more than anything in fiction....

I was more of a Doom fan once Simon Templeman took over the character in the 90s Fantastic Four animated series. Over the years Doom has proven that he isn't just a Fantastic Four antagonist, he can be the entire Marvel Universe's antagonist. Love the character, when they do him in a good way at least. Doctor Doom in emh is one of those rare characters who you want to see more of, but if he was overused he would lose a lot of his charm, whether because he’d just show up and kick everyone’s asses (thus making us wonder why he doesn’t just conquer the world already since the heroes are so clearly inferior), or have to get his own ass kicked by the heroes, thus diminishing him as a threat in our eyes. Emh does neither, and as much as I might want to have seen him more, I am also cursed with understanding that his rarity is part of what makes him so great Emh did a great job and it’s a shame it got canned

Happy new year Pillar. I am a huge Doom fan and I love the version of The character from EMH. The show captures Doom's character perfectly (just like everyone else in the series). He always had a presence whenever he appeared on screen and he silences Wasp with just a few words. Speaking of Wasp, may I suggest an analysis on her complicated relationship with Hank and how selfish she was towards him? Looking back Wasp took Pym for granted and never understood or respected his pacifist mindset and that may have played a role in his tragic transformation into Yellow Jacket

I think it’s very telling and appropriate that in Doom’s major appearances in this series, he spends the most amount of time of it butting heads with Iron Man. Doom is mainly the FF’s greatest nemesis, but it seems a lot of people don’t know that Doom and Iron Man have a pretty classic on-again off-again rivalry, especially in the 80s runs of IM’s book. In fact, if your sources were correct on the possible listed episodes for the season 3 we never got, one of these episodes would have been possibly the most iconic Doom Vs Iron Man story that exists (“DoomQuest”! Look it up! It’s AMAZING 😆) I’m only saddened we’ll likely never get to see it. It would have been GLORIOUS. Great video as always. I would argue that doom has more consistency than you are giving him credit for and that this is an incredibly faithful adaptation. Going as far back to his first appearance, he beat the FF within the first five pages. despite the teaser page claiming that the FF are what stand between him and world domination, he doesn't kill them when he captures them. Instead, he has them run errands for him, using the time machine he casually invented and gets away in the end. The "if he was defeated or killed, it was a doom bot" thing has been around since his third appearance. He was also very similar to this in secret wars which was written in '84. there, he was more than a straight villain and was the POV character for a lot of the massive crossover. In Emperor doom(which emperor stark is a loose adaptation of) the first thing doom does after he takes over the world is end apartheid. the only thing missing here was the pettiness towards Richards and even that is alluded to by thing and by the fact that he was clearly watching them
